Booked our table with ease online. On arrival we were able to choose our favourite seating area table and had a warm welcome. We were served by Jess. As always the food was piping hot, tasty and generous portions. As a family of four we had 4 Poppodoms and Pickles, 2 regular mixed grills (and was able to swop out the lamb chop for kebab), Butter Chicken curry and Lamb curry. 2 Cheese Nans, 1 Garlic Nan and 1 Mushroom Fried Rice - extremely good value for the price we paid (Just under £80 as we prefer tap water with our meal). Jess was attentive, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We had some food left over so Jess provided us with takeaway containers to allow us to take it home. All in all - another great dining experience at The Covered Wagon and look forward to visiting again!

Have been here many times and it never disappoints. Service is great, food is well priced and very tasty, and you can easily get a meal there and have enough to take back home for less than £20. Have ordered a lot of things on the menu and everything has been brilliant. Highly recommend.

After seeing a review on GaryEats, on YouTube, and checking other reviews I had to check the place out for myself. I have to agree that this a really nice place and much bigger than it seems when you first walk in. Service was fast and friendly and the food was very good. I had Poppadoms with complimentary dips, Naan and the Lamb Dhansak. The table next door had the Sizzler which certainly looked impressive! My server, Preethi, (a lady with a lovely smile), was excellent and happy to answer all of my questions. This is clearly an extremely well run business and it's apparent popularity is perfectly understandable. I paid £20.75, including a Pepsi and, for me, that was great value and I was more than happy to leave a tip. When you see people being provided with foil containers and carrier bags to take home what they can't finish, you know that the food must be good! I would point out that they appear to have a 2 hour use policy for a table but I'm guessing that, in practice, this might only be an issue at the busiest times when booking is also probably advisable. Preethi confirmed that weekends are very busy. I visited on a Monday evening, having booked online, arriving on time at 7.30pm. Plenty of tables were available throughout my visit, leaving just before 9.30 pm. and at no time did I feel rushed. Was it worth the 45 minutes drive? Until I hear of somewhere equally good in terms of atmosphere, food quality, service and value for money, and nearer home, it certainly was and I would certainly go back in the meantime.

Visited for our daughter's birthday - seated promptly and given menus and drinks ordered. Poppadoms for two of us arrived with four sauce tray - nice spicy one with the usual mint yogurt, mango chutney and onions. Unfortunately my husband's starter arrived ten minutes later with the mains ..... we asked that they be brought back so he could enjoy his starter. Portion sizes are very generous. Then we did have to attractive attention to get our mains back. I would recommend avoiding a Friday evening for a quiet family celebratory meal - it was just too loud - the decor does not absorb the noise levels at all. Price is good - we paid £85 for the food and pint of beer/bottle of wine. May be better on a quieter evening but wish places didn't rush you with your mains and starters together.

Visited on Sunday 17th Nov following many recommendations. We’d had a takeaway from there previously which was fine. Sadly our dine in experience was very average. Service was almost too quick in the sense that we felt rushed to order food. Once food was ordered, it was delivered in around 8 minutes. For a table of 6, we ordered a fair amount of food so was a bit concerning how quick it arrived. We came for the mixed grill really and when it came out you could immediately tell it was going to be dry. And sadly it was. Essentially the meat was just quickly heated up and put on a sizzler. Imagine that meat was sat there for a while. It didn’t taste particularly fresh. Chilli paneer and prawn dishes were also extremely sweet in taste. We also ordered a couple of mocktails as we were driving a long distance. When the bill came we were charged for cocktails which in fairness was then rectified (no apology though). But what was concerning was that when the bar staff were amending the bill with the waitress; you could see and hear them laughing about it and one jokingly saying “did you actually make mocktails”. Not a laughing matter in any situation, let alone when driving is involved. Also, hand soap in the men’s toilet was topped up with water instead of replacing it. Very poor hygiene and pure laziness. All in all, a below average experience. Poor food and service.

4 of us ate there at 8pm on Saturday 25th January. We ordered a large mixed grill, 2 curries, 2 naan and 1 masala fries. With the mixed grill, I tried one of the 2 lamb chops but found that this was undercooked and not good quality. Chicken tikka and sheek kebab were nice. The desi chicken curry and biriani were also tasty but small portions Overall, we felt that the food was over-priced but service was very good.

Our 1st time at this desi pub, so glad we found it. We're Sikh & enjoyed the place, full of people from all backgrounds, very familiar & warm atmosphere. Food was incredible, the chef & the team really should be so proud. So close to the taste of cooking at home (not oily in the slightest), really tasty food & the waiting staff were very good too. Clean toilets, great fresh tasting masala tea too. We'd definitely come back.

We have been here before and had excellent service and a wonderful meal, however on this occasion the meal was ok and nothing special, the staff was nice and we got served quickly, we are curry lovers so our main meal was the Chefs Special at just over £11pp, the meal came before we had finished our starter and we had to make room on the table for it, my wife's meal was in a balti dish was over flowing, and my meal in a balti dish was just under full they were both the same meals? .... the lamb was a bit chewy but the rest was ok, but if part of the meal is not right then there is a problem with the cooking! I did not complain because we had excellent meals there before, and the staff were quite pleasant and seemed to be working hard to please us, the meal came to just over £40 we enjoyed what we had apart from the lamb, the starter popadoms were lovely. The restaurant was not very busy and we managed to park our car ok. We will go there again because we love Indian food, I thought I will mention it but we have been to India many times and our last meal at the Covered Wagon reminded us of those curries we used to have there.....On this occasion the meal was just ok.....

DISgraceful restaurant. A regular customer who decided to have a vege starter to ‘be healthy’, looking at the website sold as a similar looking shish kebab. I instead got 4 TINY patty cakes. Made of white mush no less. Ok no problem, wrong photo perhaps on website…So I called and asked to speak to a manager. Whoever answered the phone said he was the manager, which I asked are you sure and he replied to the affirmative. I’ve just received 4 aloo tikis for £6.75!!!!!! He said that’s our portion size. I ask what for 4 potato cakes advertised as vege kebabs off of skewer(i.e shaped as a shish kebab) he says yes and says hang on a minute let me speak to a colleague…then passes the phone to someone else who says he’s the actual manager. Questioned that btw and ‘MANAGER’ said previous staff member was senior and can’t listen back to phone calls to hear what he said. .. didn’t accept that previous staff member had lied.Furthermore said their was no potato in their “aloo tikki!” YES he said that. Photo attached(mushed of course to show the “””lack of potato”””) . 6.75 for 4 tiny tikkis. Disgusting

Party of friends taken for first time to try the food, the food was exceptional!! Everyone throughly enjoyed it. They’ve started doing a side salad which is great but it rather large, maybe look at smaller portions. The issues arose when we had the bill, firstly overcharged for an extra round of drinks, queried it and it was removed. The bill then worked out to £25 per head rounded up, went to the bar with what I thought was £225 and a separate £5 for a tip, when counted out twice by the staff member it came to £200, one of our party still had it in her hands, went back to the table and collected and returned to the bar to then recount and find £20 had gone missing, should not have left the cash with the girl so my bad but had to get another £20 and used what would have been the tip money too as sadly it had gone missing. So enjoy food but don’t leave cash at the bar. Disappointing end to a lovely evening.

Don't get me wrong, the food is excellent, but the treatment from a particular member of staff toward the end of our meal was really not good. We had a starter and main, we weren't even offered dessert! Once our mains were finished (he was watching for us to finish whilst leaning up a post behind us), we were quickly asked if we wanted boxes for what we hadn't finished and then given them to pack, which was fine. We didn't even ask for the bill before being presented with it and brought a card machine. We were not asked if we wanted dessert, further drinks or anything at all, just simply presented with the bill and a card machine. We paid for our meal and were about to look for a tip, when we were rudely approached by the same member of staff, who made a "shoo" motion with his hand and said "we have another booking" while continuing to shoo us. This really ruined our evening. We were supposed to be celebrating a new job and would have at least liked one more drink but it was made clear we were to go. We had only been there 1hr 20mins. And to spend over £80 just to get shoo-ed away from the table was quite horrible. Will not be returning.

Visited here a few times hit and miss. Last time food was great so was looking forward to the food on the bank hol weekend. Fish pakora was ok didn’t taste as good as last time but portion size was good. Butter chicken was decent. However the chilli chicken portion was ridiculous, there was hardly any chicken in there just a few small pieces and a load of pepper and onions and a lot of sauce. Told the waiter and he said he’ll let the chef know. After time has passed and more food and drinks ordered there was still no acknowledgement of the issue with the chilli chicken. So I asked him if he mentioned it to the chef, which from a customer service point was below standard. At least come back and tell us what the outcome of the conversation was! He said the chef and manager said it was fine and nothing will be done. Didn’t bother saying anything after that. They clearly don’t care about customer service or their standards. It’s a shame it was so bad this time. Over priced for what you get. Won’t be back to give it another try, there’s plenty other mixed grill pubs with better quality food and customer service.

Really disappointed I can’t lie, after hearing so many good things and all the great reviews we’ve been dying to try for ages! We took our family with us and we all felt really underwhelmed. Food was dry, and portion sizes wasn’t great at all for the price The chips were hard on the kids meals my son didn’t eat any of them at all. No one came to check on us to see if we wanted anything and to see if the food was fine and we actually felt quite awkward with our waitress as she didn’t really speak much to us at all from the get go. Unfortunately we won’t be returning such a shame as this place is really hyped!

I've known the Covered Wagon since it was pub and been in once or twice for a beer but not since it turned into a restaurant. We went into Moseley (family of 5) to find our usual restaurant closed so opted for The Wagon after I recall reading some good reviews. All looked good on arrival and we were offered a choice of many tables, unfortunately the one we decided on was made up of 3 small tables very wonky and sticky! Service was good but taken by someone who seemed to be on his first day on site, all drinks and poppadums arrived but I think dips need to poured on rather than use of a teaspoon as non were provided, when we did ask we given 4 dessert spoons for a dip bowl of the same size - maybe we got it wrong. Main course arrived in good time but was all plonked at one end of the table for us to distribute hot dishes to each other and what dish was what even the server didn't know? The Bhuna & Balti dishes were so overly chilli spiced you couldn't taste anything else, I'm mid 50's and have eaten many baltis but this one I will remember for a long time, the portions were too big and so hot it was uncomfortable to eat, my sisters Bhuna the same. Kids had a Hi Vis Korma & Tikka Masala again overly rich with an msg or stock concentrate. What we left could have fed another family of 5 as it wasn't pleasant to eat. Anyway 12 hours later and awake most of the night with stomach cramp and feeling physically sick I post my review. Very expensive for the quality of food but just my opinion.

I have been here previously with friends. On this occasion I had forgotten my reading glasses and as the menu is such tiny print I had to allow my sister in law to read it for me. I told here I had a prawn dish on my last visit and loved it. There were 3 prawn dishes and I was unsure. Everyone was waiting for my order so I chose a boring vegetable biriani for speed. What an appalling mistake. There was so much chilli in the rice part that I only ate two spoonfuls before tears were streaming down my eyes. I told the waitress who just laughed. A charming attitude to good that was inedible. What a waste of money. I went home and ate cheese and biscuits in order to take my meds which have to be taken with food.
