Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stubbled across this gem a few years ago but didn’t stop! Today we made the effort to pay a visit and delighted we did. Beautiful setting, plenty of parking and a warm welcome upon arrival. Busy for a lunchtime so pleased we booked and...we could see why. Lovely atmosphere, the open fire was appreciated today and the food and service were excellent. Good menu with plenty of variety too. The garden looks great too, so can’t wait to pop back in warmer times!More

Situated very remotely in unlit surroundings the pub is warm and welcoming. We chose to eat in the dining room as it was a special occasion but found the tables and chairs so close to each other, it was difficult to get seated without asking...a neighbour to move! The range of ales was poor but the menu is varied and the food excellent with good sized portions. The service was also attentive.More

After quite a while we revisited the inn and it was as good as ever. Lovely log fires, excellent service, and delicious food. My special was a Cottage pie which was outstanding, but the vegetables were a little hard for me personally, and my partner...had the Linguine which she said was very tasty. Being oap's it was a little expensive, and not helped by a service charge. But we would certainly have to limit the amount of visits because of it. But we would still like to pass on our thanks From Ray, Rosemary, and our dog Susie 12noon 22nd November.More

What has happened in a month ? We came back to the fox, a long loved venue to find they had appointed a new head chef. The change was more that welcomed by our party, to the point we came lunch and dinner for our...2 day trip due to the fantastic food offering. The best part being the new Sunday lunch menu (including pigs in blankets and bacon sprouts ) we met chef tim who was happy to talk with us !! . 7 days later we have arrived with friends to be told this was no longer the case and got an average lunch at best. With the worst Yorkshire puddings I’ve had in a long time. Hopefully this isn’t a look at things to come !! Damm shameMore

We came to the Fox based on its reviews and a few online articles. We were sadly disappointed. The food took a long time and the burger in particular was very very poor. soggy bun and flavourless. Very busy Saturday service and staff and pub...were lovely. Worth coming for a drink.More

Lovely pub a short walk from where we were staying. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Had the Roasted Beetroot and Sweet Potato salad - however no sign of any sweet potato - not sure if they had run out or forgotten as no explanation given....Had the mini taster for pudding which was chocolate and apple bread pudding - really nice but if that was a mini I hate to think what the the normal size would be like as it was huge. Would eat here again - as long items weren’t missing for mealMore

In October I when for dinner at The Fox Goes Free, for the first time, as an arranged group dinner. I ordered the share platter with halloumi and vegetarian salad with raspberry infused dressing. I was disappointed by the meals. The crumbed halloumi was the...only flavourful thing on the share platter, as the roasted vegetables were just bland, and the dipping sauces also had no flavour! The salad was very disappointing as the salad was gritty, as if it was not cleaned properly and it lacked flavour, not even the raspberry infused dressing added any flavour!More

5 stars to staff. Our stay did not go to plan as unfortunately we had an issue with our room which could not quickly be resolved. These things happen and we checked out with a full refund. This was done with grace and a smile...by the helpful staff. Although disappointed we will try to rebook again and enjoy a night away as the room was cosy and we loved the location and old world charm in the pub/restaurant. Staff could not have done any more.More

Food was reasonable but everything seemed a little hectic. Service was good although waited a long time for the one ice cream sorbet we ordered and a coffee never did arrive! Perhaps we may return at a different time of day and try again, overall...not a bad experience but would like to see an improvement next time.More

A specific table was booked by a friend for his wife’s birthday celebration and to see the live music., he’d even requested balloons and assured they would be on the table. When we arrived our table had been given to someone else , no apology...was offered and 6 of us were squeezed into the food ordering point, on a table designed for 5 people- given there were only 5 chairs at the table. The service was poor, we had starters delivered twice. It was only when we declined to pay the service charge that the person in charge spoke with my friend and even then did not take responsibility for their error. An apology was reluctantly offer only after my friend asked for one. A poor experience one appalling customer service all evening.More

Yesterday was my wife’s birthday. In August we were in this pub & learned that a band was playing on that day. We booked the table we were sitting at for the occasion & invited friends to join our celebration. I phoned before & the...pub agreed to put balloons on the table. We arrived & were placed in a different room from the band, on a different table, with no view of the band & no balloons. The manageress explained that sometimes they have to rearrange tables to accommodate numbers. No apology. Just a stern face. We stayed - what else do you do with guests? I didn’t ask for the balloons. The mood was spoiled. After our meal, with apologies to the waiting staff, I asked that the service be deducted. The manageress came to talk to me. She did now apologise but still seemed to think that what had happened was reasonable. This is essentially a good pub that I would want to continue using. I guess the message is that you should not book for special occasions or ask for your booking in writing.More
