Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had booked a meal through the website with open table for 6.00pm with friends for a pre theatre meal only to find that the restaurant did not acknowledge our booking. They had a big party coming in at that time. Despite showing the barman...a confirmatory email from open table with our booking we were dismissed with barely an apology. A follow up email this week has also not been acknowledged. It is impossible to get a table prior to the theatre without booking so we felt very let down and were unable to eat elsewhere that eveningMore

We had a very enjoyable dinner here. While waiting for our friends we were able to enjoy a game of scrabble with our G & Ts. For the meal three of us had venison, which was excellent, although it was perhaps fortunate that we all...liked it rare. The other person had the chicken which was excellent. We then finished with cheese platter, and they were huge. Even shared it was way too much & we took about half home! Curiously although there was lots of cheese, only 5 biscuits per platter!More

We arrived at about 11.45 and stood at the bar ready to order drinks but were completely ignored until just before 12 when we were told that we needed to order our drinks alongside our food order from a table. I ordered the smoked salmon...salad. The salmon was tasty but the "salad" was just a very small garnish, not a salad at all. For what was on the plate it was very expensive and I was pleased I had ordered some chips as otherwise I would have gone hungry! The bill for 2 small "starter" size cold dishes, 2 small bowls of chips and 2 half pints came to £36.57 which was much more than we have paid for a much more substantial lunch elsewhere. Disappointing!More

Four of us had lunch here on a very overcast August Friday. We shared a selection of sandwiches. The chicken club was enormous with beautiful fries to accompany it. They also cater for coeliacs with gluten free bread for the sandwiches. All washed down with...a good pint of Harvey’s we had a very pleasant lunch in their large rear garden.More

We had a late dinner at the Crate and Apple in Chichester. The service was prompt and very friendly. We all ordered the curry cauliflower soup and the roast dinner, chicken and pork. I would call the curry cauliflower soup a comfort food it was...exceptional and I would highly recommend it. We all had the the “small” portions of the roast dinner on recommendation of our server. Excellent choice great food. Highly recommend the Crate and Apple when visiting Chichester!More

We recently attended a family wedding reception there. Lisa and the team were able to do some quick changes due to adverse weather conditions. The food was amazing. The venue was clean family friendly and beautifully decorated. The staff were very friendly and very helpful....Thank you Lisa and staff for helping to make this a very happy memorable day.More

On a visit to Chichester we decided to find somewhere for lunch that we could also take the dog to. Having done a quick google search we decided to give the Crate & Apple pub a go. We were not disappointed. We sat in the...rear garden which was lovely. Our dog was made very welcome and offers water and treats. I had the ham, duck eggs and three times cooked chips. My husband had the gin infused smoked salmon and order a side of chips. The food was fantastic. The chips were the best I have ever tasted. Our server, Ben went above and beyond with the service he gave to us and needs special mention. We will definitely be returning to this little gem of a place. Maybe next time we will book the little snug which looked fabulous. See you again soonMore

Lovely roast dinner. Friendly, relaxed, numerous staff. OK they were a bit slow, but who cares. They were all so welcoming. HOWEVER the star of the show was the cheeseboard. Honestly, the best I’ve ever had. Not too many fancy bits on the side, but...the quality and quantity of cheese was truly outstanding. Superb Sussex and Hampshire cheeses.More

Loved this cute pub in Chichester . There’s a variety of seating which is fab to eat outside at in the summer towards the back of the pub ( this is covered ) as well as large tables for groups , plus some seating at...the front of the pub . It’s well decorated , large and good for drinks or a nice quality meal . Myself and my partner went for a wonderful meal midweek . We had a lovely cocktail which was coconut , tequila , passion fruit , totally delicious . My main was Beef brisket , with potatoes and veg ; his was Hake with chilli , samphire , and other veg , in a jus . This was pretty spicy but tasty . Food was totally fresh . A smaller menu but was very impressed with the service , good was very high quality indeed . Smaller plates so would recommend either a starter too , desserts or sides along with the main .More
