We returned to the Ring O Bells after not having visited for quite some time (no particular reason!_, and we won't leave it nearly so long again! We took advantage of the Eat Out scheme and managed to get a booking for 7,45 on a Wednesday. We were greeted, initially, by an automated face recognition/temperature recorder, which is the 1st one we've come accross - well done for taking things seriously. We were quickly showed to our table and given sanitised menus. The choice of dishes is interesting. Sharing plates and tapas dishes mingle with pub clasics although we thought the dessert selection could have been a bit more varied and extensive (from memory 5 items) The food was excellent - freshly produced and very tasty. We started with the Blooming Onion, the first time we have had such a dish and it was very tasty, served on a slate with 3 dips and salad lewaves. The pie of the day was Moroccan Lamb, which was both unusual and delicious, as were the scollops and shoulder of lamb small plates. The only dish that didn't REALLY push our buttons was the chocolate mousse, and I am a chocoholic! It was very well presented and very tasty but, unfortunately, it was quite thick and proved to be rather heavy going. It was served with Raspberry Marcopone, which was also very thick. We shared a portion and couldn't finish it! Service was rather slow, which under current circumstances (more customers due to the deal and fewer staff in the kitchen due to social distancing?) is understandable, however there was a mix up over the starter which added to the time we had to wait - about an hour after ordering! Add to this the fact we had to chase for drinks, and for this, and this alone, I feel I can't give an 'excellent ' score.

We have called in several times for lunch recently with various friends and relatives. Excellent value and quality food from a varied menu which is thoughtfully presented. Very accommodating to customers with different dietary needs including offering a variety of more inspiring vegan choices. Although its been reasonably quiet at the times we have been, its a lovely pub run by nice people.

We visited Friday evening and ate in the bar area. I had a Pate starter and Rump steak main meal with sweet potato chunky chips. My wife have the home made soup and the Oven finished Bass with saute potatoes. The food was absolutely fantastic and we enjoyed every last bite. The service was excellent very attentive without being over the top. I would highly recommend to anyone and can guarantee you will not be disappointed. We both ordered a bottle of wine my wife chose a white zinfandel and i had a red Rioja which was really, really nice. 5 stars loved it.

We visited the Ring O Bells this evening (10th July) with friends who had been to the establishment many occasion, it was our first time. Orders were taken and about 5 minutes later the waitress came back to say one of the choices was available, the second choice wasn’t available either. On a ‘small’ selection menu, that wasn’t a good start! We waited ages for the meals to arrive , the steak in my taco had grizzle running right through it, the knife wouldn’t cut it, I certainly couldn’t chew it. It took at least 15-20 minutes for the second taco to be brought out, by which time I was eating alone as my friends had finished. When the bill arrived they charged us full price. We asked if they would reduce the bill given the meal was inedible and had to be replaced, hen forcing me to eat alone. The waitress left and asked the duty management (the owner wasn’t around). She came back and said she was told the charges remained full as they replaced the meal so I still ate. They totally disregarded the disruption to the evening with friends, ignoring the fact the meal was inedible, focussing on the fact that they replaced it!! The duty manager didn’t have the courtesy or manners to explain their decision, instead, he/she hid behind the scenes and the waitress had to face us. My friends scallops were also cold when they arrived at the table, but they were so hungry he just ate them.. Based on my experience I wouldn’t recommend the food, or the service, my friends will never frequent the establishment again!

Dear Chantal (I am assuming from your profile that this is your name) I am Joanne the owner of the business. I have collated all the information and would just like to say how horrified I am how your party thought I was acceptable to speak to my team the way you did. Firstly upon arrival you requested an ale in a Staropramen glass which if I had of been there I would not have served as the lager glasses have etchings in them especially designed for lagers. You then proceeded to complain about the size of the head on your ale which would of been very difficult to get right in the wrong glass. My team are not there to take any form of abuse whilst I am not there. The young lady you offended has been at the Ring O Bells since the day we took over now into our 6th year is extremely experienced and senior management, how she conducted herself I can assure you would have been with the utmost respect and professionalism, if you had of spoken to any member of my team or myself in the manner that has been explained to me by customers who were present to witness your behaviour I would of simply asked you to leave in fact you are now not welcome at my establishment due to your parties behaviour so we can both agree that you need never visit again. Thank you Joanne Harris

Visited for evening meals and drinks with friends as we have been several times before and had a great time. Once again, friendly, welcoming staff at a warm, well lit country pub. Menu was, as usual, well presented and full of old favourites as well as some new additions. The food is cooked to order and is mainly homemade by the excellent chef. All our meals were very well presented, hot and exactly as ordered, including individual requests for minor changes to the menu. Highly recommended, again.

My partner and I eat out a few times each week and really enjoy a good Sunday lunch treat most Sundays.. We decided today to try somewhere new and found this place on Trip Advisor and felt optimistic based on the positive reviews. First impressions seemed good and we were looking forward to our meal. . My partner and I ordered a large glass of wine each one white one red, which to our disappointment were both totally undrinkable, the combination of being cheap and not kept well which in a ‘food’ pub is a huge issue because we certainly expect the quality of the wine to match the food. We both ordered a beer as we needed a drink with our meals. I expected to be asked if there was a problem with our drinks but it was never acknowledged that we had needed to re-order drinks. We were never asked if our meals were ok and my partner was made to feel uncomfortable because she hadn’t finished her food! I would have ordered dessert but it was never offered! We were basically forgotten. Maybe you need to be a local. The food was actually ok and I feel sorry for the chef because the front of house lets the dining experience down. The lack of hospitality and basic hosting experience was glaringly obvious and we certainly won’t be returning. The previous reviews are questionable as based on our negative experience one star is pretty generous! I’ve never actually posted a negative review before but felt compelled to.

Thank you for taking time to comment, I am so sorry that you did not enjoy your visit. After speaking to our team regarding your experience these are my findings. Upon arrival you were greeted and ordered a Chardonnay to which the lady said that it was not to her taste and decided to order a Merlot you were served by my husband Paul who asked would you like to taste it and the lady refused. The gentleman said it would be ok Paul asked again if you were sure and the gentleman said it would be ok. The wine being undrinkable is a choice of palate and something we have not faced before we always offer people a taste of wine or beer if they are not sure what they taste like. I actually cleared your table and I did ask if all was ok apologies if you were made to feel uncomfortable I simply asked if everything was ok or if we had over faced you, I would hate to think that you were made to feel uncomfortable as we would not dream of putting someone in that position. Please don’t question our hospitality we are extremely proud of how we welcome people into our establishment every single review is genuine based on our customers experience here I again am sorry you didn’t enjoy yours. The majority of our customers are not local they travel quite a far way some of them to dine with us Paul and I try our very best to have a chat with most of our customers even when busy just because that’s who we are we create a relaxed friendly atmosphere with our team and customers who have helped make us who we are today. Your comments are greatly appreciated and will only make us stronger in moving forward and making the Ring O Bells even better.

We are sad to say we had the worst experience with Christmas lunch 2021 at the Ring o Bells. We were a table of six, five adult one child. The cost of each adult £70 Child £35 I really don't mind paying the additional cost for Christmas lunch however our horrific experience warrants this negative and scathing review. The food was substandard and tokenistic along with ridiculous lengthy waiting times. we were seated at 12.30 an hour later we were served our first course a watery and insipid bowl of soup which was thin and tasteless I asked for some bread (A normal accompaniment to soup.) I was met with a Stoney face and informed that bread was not part of the menu. Unusual I thought for £70 per head. An hour later we were served our second course. miniscule portion of prawn cocktail (Five not so king prawns’ lettuce leaf and a crouton) / duck breast. (Tiny) As the portion was so minuscule and insignificant I again asked for bread. We were met with a glare and was provided with 4 slices between six people and hour later turkey was served. The whole dinner was dreadful. Hard anaemic, pale and black knotted roast potatoes, minuscule portions. we spoke to the Manager and raised our concern He was abrupt and abrasive. We felt he was more concerned with selling alcohol to the rest of his customers and boosting his coffers. The whole experience was just inadequate. we could not tolerate any further so left before the further two courses three and a half hours after we first arrived Today. We have voiced our grievances to Management and was met with argumentative , abrasive and unpleasant reaction to our most valid complaint. Rude dreadful money grabbing and unprofessional. I would avoid the ring o Bells Thornton at all costs. I would not recommend

Christmas Day for us is extremely special and for 6 years we have done the same relaxed service. We dress the rooms and tables and encourage the families that come to enjoy each other’s company, it is roughly a 3 hour service that starts at 1pm a 12.30 arrival with a welcoming drink and you are shown to your table. This year we started service 10 minutes late waiting for another table to arrive. The first course was simply an appetiser not meant to fill you as you still had four other courses to go either a light wild mushroom broth with cream and chestnuts or roasted heritage tomato & garlic croutons. Neither served with bread nor did it say on the menu that it was. You requested bread I only understood it to be 1 portion with the second course if you had of requested for 6 it would have been sent out to you we only had brioche available and you were asked if that would be ok in my opinion that is also an opportunity to ask for a further 5 portions. It still would have been sent out to you. All customers who frequent the Ring O Bells know you need only ask and extra is provided gravy, bread, crackers even custard. The description of the Turkey dinner does not match that of the 70 other guests who dined with us not even of the broth. The portions were not minuscule at all there was no space left to put anything on your main course plate. Paul and I are really accommodating and love what we do I will always hold my hands up and apologise if anything is wrong you spoke over the top of us continually during our phone conversation to the point I had to walk away. Anyone that knows me knows we are just not like the people you have described. We have taken repeat custom for next year in fact tables near you commented on how well your complaint was handled and were in fact pleased when you eventually left. To call us money grabbing and unprofessional is absurd we haven’t even increased our Christmas prices, you have exaggerated the time you spent here with us. You were one of the first tables to be served as a matter of fact that is the one error we made we should of started at the other end of the pub where the children were the whole service was done by 4pm and most guests had left by 5.30. As for the alcohol comment I shall treat that with the contempt it deserves it’s what we are here for to serve. I’m sorry that you feel that you cannot return here that is simply your prerogative.

Unhappy that we booked a table a week in advance. We were disappointed on arrival to be told that we had to sit inside on a glorious sunny afternoon and then were shown to a table inside with no atmosphere in a large area with just one other couple eating. Everyone else was outside where there were at least two spare tables. We ordered drinks. Service was poor as we had nearly finished the drinks by the time anyone bothered to come and see about a food order. Very limited choice for vegetarian s/ vegans a's really focused on Sunday roast.. We said we were leaving when the girl eventually came over. No sign of the lovely proprietors who had seemingly left the place in the the hands of girls, with a "couldnt care less attitude". Had been looking forward to coming back to the Ring o Bells; what a disappointment.

Hi Thank you for booking in advance. I will address your points in order to hopefully help. All the tables outside would have been reserved so we would have have had no where else to seat you outside. I will look into the service that you had today as the team that were here last weekend are in today. We do only serve a limited menu at present on a Sunday as there are only two chefs in the kitchen we are currently advertising for chefs. I am vegetarian myself and we always have starter of each fish meat veg on Sundays and the same for the mains. We have always had the policy that if it is in the building we can cook it for you with in reason. We have a balanced vegetarian menu during the week so the ingredients are fresh in the building please just ask. As for the proprietors. My lovely husband is exhausted after a very long lockdown serving takeaway and running his own business so had a well deserved Sunday off with his son. His lovely wife me was actually a chef in the kitchen not grumbling as I actually enjoy it, looks like I will be in there a while longer.🤣🤣 But also looks like I will had to Bob front of house every now and again to see our lovely customers. Next time you are in please ask to see one of us we only take roughly two maybe three weekends off a year to visit my daughter in Gloucester so usually we are here.

What an incredible place this is! The slimmed down menu to accommodate the current situation has been well thought out with plenty of choice and excitement. We met a couple of new staff who were delightful. It doesn't seem to matter who is on shift - you will always recieve a genuinely warm welcome and top notch service. The team will make time to speak to you and take an interest in conversation which is EXACTLY what customers need even through this COVID marlarky. The food was superb and we would highly recommend the burgers and the blooming onion! What a shame the Leeds match was on otherwise the husband would've let me stay for dessert and coffee! We can not wait to come back- thank you x

We look forward to seeing you return and congratulations to Leeds x

I booked a table as it was my wife’s 60th birthday, 6 adults and 2 children. The starters came of which two were meatballs, they were raw in the middle and one was still cold! We asked to have them re-cooked which the staff agreed to, however 10 minutes later the staff informed us they would be at least another 20 minutes until ready, would we like to order something else, so two fish cake’s were ordered instead! On to the mains, the two children had burgers which were just about cooked and very red/pink in the middle. Two had beef, again very bloody just about cooked but the other was chewy and overdone, if they are going to serve it like this, surely the customer should be asked how they like their beef done! Also I had informed them when booking that my wife was gluten intolerant, that was fine she said it also when ordering, but I’m pretty sure all of our meals were gluten free. I had the fish and chips with garden peas, only thing was it came with what looked like mushy peas, which were like bullets and obviously hadn’t been soaked anywhere near long enough. Very disappointed as it was a special occasion, with no apology from senior staff or anything. I expect far better than this for the money!

I’m so sorry that this has occurred. All meals are gluten free we cook fresh to table so don’t use ready prepared products. The fish and chips are served with homemade mushy peas that are soaked for 24 hrs. We had two senior staff front of house the lady in black who dealt with the meatballs (again I apologise all my team in the kitchen will be called to task.) also my husband the owner. We received no further complaint I truly wish you had of said something while you were there, we could of at least had the opportunity to rectify this on the day. We really do try to make each experience special I hope that you try us again.

Having had a lovely experience here the previous weekend with my son, I took my surrogate mum, Sylvia, on a weekday to sample the Brunch Club menu. We received a warm welcome from Joanne who also thanked me for the review I left after my previous visit, and were shown to the table I had sat at on my previous visit. Nice touch. Sylvia is 80 years young, has owned a delicatessen in Ilkley and other service industry businesses, and like myself is "old school" in terms of customer service. She commented that it was a lovely inviting place and she liked how we were greeted and seated. We took ages deciding what to order and must have driven our waitress (a delightfully engaging Brummie with amazing bright red hair) to distraction! but she patiently answered all our questions - either directly, or after venturing to the kitchen for the answer. I'm allergic to mushrooms and not a fan of onions. After ordering with the caveat of "can you just check that there's no mushrooms or onions in this please" a smiley chap came to let us know that the beans were normally cooked with onions in but he would do mine without. Yet again the food was delicious. Really delicious. Our waitress made sure that we were happy with everything and took the time to answer Sylvias numerous questions on how a Brummie had ended up in Yorkshire, where she lived now, where does she get her hair done, etc, etc! I've often said that she should have been in the CID as she likes to ask everybody about everything but she's a people person as was our waitress and as are the rest of the lovely people at the Ring O'Bells. Sylvia also "interrogated" Joanne, the co-owner about how long she had had the place and advised her that many moons ago her own business had supplied the RO'B with various foodstuffs and it soon became a trip down memory lane for her which she loves. Happy Sylvia = happy me. There is a genuine warmth to this place. Allied to great food in a lovely setting it's no surprise that it's a thriving business. The price is equally friendly. We paid a very reasonable £30 for 2 super-tasty meals with the worlds best chips, 3 delicious coffees and a half of lager. I'm taking Sylvia back for dinner next month as a birthday treat, and prior to this I'll be taking a good friend for his birthday and I can't wait to try the 3 small plates for £19. Watch this space!

We visited last night, last minute booking. Fabulous food and amazing staff. Not my first visit but my daughters and we both thoroughly enjoyed. I had the special, seabsass all I can say is, wow!!!! My daughter had the halloumi burger which was presented lovely and she said "tasted amazing" Disappointed that the dessert I wanted wasn't available, but that just means I'll have to go back and hope it's available next time. Another lovely lunch. I cannot understand the earlier review regarding the lack of customer service as today was my 3rd visit in the past few months and the customer service is amazing. Young Toby was our waiter today, the second time I have met this lovely man. Though the specials are displayed in the main restaurant area we were handed the board along with the main menu and introduced to the soup and pate of the day. Husband chose the duck pate - a plentiful portion of homemade deliciousness. My Yorkshire Brie went down a treat too. 28 day matured steak with a wild mushroom Diane sauce was spectacular and my garlic chicken was to die for. The homemade cheesecake is always a winner but today there was no room. My husband was aware he was too full but has such a longing for his favourite desert. Toby sensed this and so a takeaway portion was produced. If that isn’t going the extra mile then I don’t know what is. The food and customer service is exceptional. Please don’t take the word of someone who obviously wouldn’t be satisfied with anything

Had a really disappointing lunch at the Ring O’Bells today. Service was incredibly slow - waiting over 45 minutes for a starter. The quality of the food was also poor - “cheesy nachos” were simple tortilla crisps with a lumpy cheese sauce thrown on top. Pie with poorly made short crust pastry, served with either chips or mash but no side vegetables. Burger served with no sides either - didn’t note the cost but I believe this was over £12 for a single burger and no sides. Would seem a common pairing with a burger dish yet when taking order no one mentioned that sides were not included. Visited a while ago to their brunch Foam and Flour which was exceptional, I believe this no longer is in operation which is a real shame as the current food on offer is no where near comparable.

My apologies that you didn’t enjoy your experience here at the Ring O Bells I would have liked that you mentioned these issues whilst you were still at the pub which would of given us the opportunity to change or at least add to your dishes. You only had nachos as a starter ? The description is clear on the menu that is how they are served they are put through the oven with cheese on which might explain the lumps then covered on a hot cheese sauce. I have checked your service ticket these did not take 45 minutes to arrive to your table. The pie is handmade and baked to order again the description is on the menu I apologise for not explaining that you can add sides of vegetables or mushy peas to the dish that is completely my error and going forward will ensure I remember to do so. The burger again the description is on the menu with a note to add from the sides this choice equates to the usual price our burgers were with chips or fries but giving you the freedom to choose. Foam and Flour is still open under a different name Brunch Club the same team are running it with the exception of my business partner who is greatly missed. I’m sorry that you have made the decision not to return based on your one visit but I will take all your comments as constructive. Thank you for leaving a review they really are important to us and help improve our service 😊 Jo
