About
The Red Lion is set in the tiny village of Avebury which is three miles in radius and some 2000 years older than Stonehenge! Refurbished Winter 2013 the pub is 400 years old and located at the centre of the stone circle where every six weeks a pagan festival is held. It is in the Top Ten list of most haunted pubs in the country and has been seen on TV as such. The main ghost is that of an old landlady "Florrie" who was killed here by her husband. Ghosts aside, this destination food house is a lovely thatched listed cottage with cobbles and a large mill stone in the car park and low ceilings, beams and traditional wood furniture with a modern twist inside. Food is served from an extensive main

Mrs P was great as always, very friendly and humorous. Her service made up for the not so good ribeye steak I had. Liking the new decoration, feels much nicer inside but food still needs improvement.

I booked a table for six on 5th May 2022. Mrs P was incredibly helpful and indeed all the staff were polite, professional and very friendly. I’d brought a friend who was visiting the UK from California and she loved the food. We all did,...in fact it was much more than I was expecting. 10/10 and we will be back.More

Our first time to Avebury and we found this pub. And what a find. The staff were so organised and so attentive, it was like five star service. Gary, in particular, was so helpful. We wanted to leave a tip but the card machine does...not allow that and we had no cash, so they need to sort that out so we can reward good service. But, everywhere is so clean and beautiful. A wonderful lunch and visit - we will be back. Thank youMore

Excellent pub. Had an elderly, quite frail mum with me. The bar staff were amazing and went out of their way to get her a seat and menu, even though the place was hammered. Thank you young lady at the bar Mayday afternoon, for helping...us. Food was delicious too.More

Had an excellent meal, service was great - Kudos to Aimee and the manager whose name I've forgot (sorry). The ambience was wonderful and everything was spotlessly clean, and sophisticated, but still retaining that "quaint English pub feel". Glad there was no t.v. blaring.

What a wonderful lunch we've just had at The Red Lion. We were not rushed, but the staff were very attentive. There were four of us and we all had a different choice, but they all came together. All of us commented on how good...each meal was and sent compliments to the chef. A special thanks to Karyn who looked after us at the table. We will be returning soon, thanks.More

Weekends are busy at the Red Lion but they do have a large number of covers, so you should be okay, also during the week should be no problem
