Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We wanted a reasonably priced lunch in a central, comfortable location and we certainly found it at the Wig and Quill. Lovely, warm, welcoming atmosphere, good choice of light lunches and delicious mulled wine! We were well looked after by Callum, who was helpful and...so polite. Thoroughly recommend a visit. We'll certainly be back!More

Lovely old pub near the shops. Service was friendly all be it a little slow, but then it was Saturday lunchtime and the guy who served us did warn us the food may take a little while. Very good value and they do a mixture...of sandwiches and soup etc as well as main meals.More

Firstly I would like to thank the lovely lady that served us . Most of the time we were in the pub she was working on her own running the bar and the restaurant. There was a younger lady there for a short time who...spent most of the time looking at her phone which in my view you don't do while working in public service. Sadly the food did not meet the service. My husband had the beef burger which he said was OK. I ordered the pasta with pine nuts and added chicken for an extra £4. We waited a while for the food which wasn't a problem. However when mine came the chicken was cold and looked like it was just left over from another dish the pasta was also cold. There was alot of onion in the dish and oil. I took the food to the bar where the younger lady still looking at her phone and also picking her nose ( some what off putting ) was standing I ask if the food should be hot to which she replied I don't know but will get it warmed up. Not great for chicken. Waited ages for the food to come back when it did it wasn't hot and tasted awful. After quite along time the older lady noticed I wasn't eating and came to ask why. Explained how bad the food was. She was so sorry and offered for me to oder a different dish free of charge. By this time my husband had finished his meal and I really couldn't face anymore food. I was offered a pudding which after a long wait came and was very nice. My main meal and pudding were taken off the bill. Sadly we will not be returning.More

On a wet and windy Saturday we came to Wig and Quill for a family lunch catch up. Service from Callum and Julie couldn't be faulted, menu had something for us all and 5 very different dishes were freshly cooked to order. Food was delicious...and plentiful. Bar is welcoming, drinks well kept, clean and tidy throughout. We will definitely eat here again.More

A lovely characterful pub. We had a warm greeting and were waited on by a lady and a man who couldn’t do enough for us. Good food and beer too. Very good all round experience and we’d definitely go back if in the area.

This great little pub used to give a discount for Camra members on real cider (eg Old Rosie) but apparently no more, just ales. Nevertheless I’d rather support these smaller pubs over large conglomerates such as Wetherspoons. Great beer garden outback. I remember a visit...last year where I stood out in the beer garden watching a spectacular thunderstorm.More

Had lunch on a Saturday. Nice decor and layout of pub. Staff super attentive and friendly. Very dog friendly. Meals, 4 different main courses, were all lovely, hot and extremely good value for money. Photo of ploughman’s lunch, which we asked if we could have...ham, cheese and pâté, and included a variety of cheeses, rather than the one item was huge. Definitely go again.More

We visited last year and had a fantastic meal. Hence our return. This year we felt extremely let down. The food took ages to arrive (approx 1.5hrs) and the Shredded Pork was more like strips of Gammon. (Even the server agreed). The salmon was also...overcooked. We did receive a discount, but because we didn’t mention that we had parked in the car park opposite when we arrived we were not allowed the 20% discount on top. It would have been better if we were warned of the delay so we could have made a decision of whether to stay or not.More
