Built around 1480, The Thatched Tavern was originally a farmhouse with a croft (a small farm). There was also a Blacksmiths forge at the back of the building where the kitchen hatch is now, and a wood store at the end of the bar.During the reign of Queen Anne (1701) Cheapside and the surrounding area became recognised as a fashionable place to be seen. The Royal Races on Ascot Heath (as it was then known) also began, although a bit sporadicallyThe Thatched Tavern only became a pub, or tap house as it was known then, in about 1760; it was one of the three most popular drinking establishments in the hamlet of Cheapside. In the early 1900’s it became the main drinking centre in Cheapside, known

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I’ve been visiting the Thatched for 40 years or more but hadn’t been for ages. We have just moved to Ascot and can walk to this place. So we did for Sunday lunch. My lack of visiting didn’t take long to become rather obvious as...I nipped outside to the loos - apparently they were relocated inside many years ago! It appeared to be fully booked so there’s a lovely atmosphere. I had some pasta starter which was amazing, Mrs had a pate dish which she loved. Then roast beef with all the trimming and a side of cauliflower cheese (absolutely must). Totally yummy. No room for pud. Plenty of drinks - beer for me, cocktails for Mrs and decent red wine. About £75 a head. Excellent value considering what we had. Top service too. Just need to try and remember where the loos are next time.More

Yes it has obviously been a while the toilet moved inside about 4 years ago. We are very happy you have rediscovered us but please don't leave it so long next time 😁

Being greeted with a nice log fire on a cold Saturday was very welcoming. My wife had braised lamb and I had pigs cheeks, both were very tender and the sauce with both meals was very tasty, both types of mashed potato were delicious and...they didn't skimp on the meat portions, seemed a popular spotMore

My wife and I had a 2-3 hours to kill having dropped our daughter off at a birthday bowling party in Bracknell. Rather than eating at one of the chain restaurants in Bracknell, we decided to try the Thatched Tavern which was only 15 minutes...away. How glad we were that we did - we had a really lovely evening. We received a very warm welcome which very much set the tone for the evening. We were extremely impressed with the service, nothing was too much trouble for the hardworking team. The food was great, it was was difficult to choose what to have. The menu wasn’t overly extensive but we fancied almost all of it. Can’t wait to go back!More

As always The Thatched Tavern was brilliant. We took friends and they loved it as much as we do. Lovely friendly team, excellent food and the best Guinness locally

I have dined here many times in the past and always been impressed by the quality of the food, however the Sunday lunch was very disappointing. The quality and quantity of the meat was poor (lots of sinewy fat running through the beef and only...two small, thin slices) and one bowl of vegetables between 6 felt on the mean side. We also had to look for table service several times.More

Had the Sunday lunch option in this quaint venue but I have to say I was disappointed! The staff were great but the food fell short, the beef looked amazing but it was full of stringy sinew and the vegetables were the wrong side of...raw to be edible! Sorry people but I've had better :-(More

What a shame the beef was not as good as it normally is. Huge apologies. Coincidentally we have now moved to a higher quality beef for roasts so please come and try us again.

We visited the pub for the first time after living in the area for many years and we were not disappointed. The service was exceptional and food delicious. Shared some “for the table” as starters, choice of mains was good and puddings shared. All plates...were cleared!More

I don’t usually leave reviews but this was genuinely the most disappointing service I’ve ever had. It is a shame because the food and the inside of the building was really nice. Upon entering this otherwise charming old pub, we were met with a rather...disgruntled waiter who seemed inconvenienced by our presence. He begrudgingly took a drinks order and we had to prompt him to take our food order. Once we received our food, nobody came to check if it was okay and if we were enjoying it, let alone offer us more drinks. Once we finished we asked for the bill to which the answer was a snappy “yep” as this waiter walked past (no eye contact). 5 minutes later we still had not received our bill so had to ask another equally grumpy member of staff. I was also disappointed by the lack of thatched roof however that is a minor discrepancy.More

From what I can remember there is a small amount of parking available on the forecourt and road at the front, plus parking at the rear with access through the beer garden.
