We booked The Beehive's Spring Tasting Menu to compare it with a similar event we had attended at the previous owner's Crown in Burchetts Green (which had been outstanding!!) The Beehive promised on their website "an exciting menu for the kitchen to create and we...cant wait to deliver the finest local and seasonal six course tasting menu for you to enjoy. You wont want to miss out". When we arrived the staff knew nothing about this event and the standard menu was all that was available. Eventually the manager tried to explain why this had happened but blaming a new website and their marketing company were strange excuses. At the time of writing this event still shows on the Beehive's website!! We have also booked for two upcoming events in July ("A Taste of the Beehive" and "The Beehive Summer Tasting Menu") and he could not confirm that these would definitely be taking place. Having travelled some distance, we decided to stay and choose from the standard menu. The food was fine although choices were limited and not as great as we remembered it from previous visits when Dom Chapman was in charge. We also noted that the restaurant was virtually empty. The team that served us were friendly and delightful; obviously embarrassed about a situation over which they had no control. No offer of a "sorry this happened" such as free coffee or a glass of wine was offered. How disappointing that one of our favourite restaurants failed to deliver so badly.More

I went for lunch with 2 other friends to view Laura Holloway's stunning art work being displayed there. My friends were able to eat from the set menu because they eat meat and fish. To my astonishment, there was no vegetarian or vegan main on...the set menu! When the waiter brought me a vegetarian/vegan a la carte menu, I said that I would like the soup for starters and the mushroom and spinach pasta. I also said that I assumed that they could give me those as a set menu, obviously adapting the portion sizes. I was categorically told they would not do that, even though I said I felt very prejudiced against. I decided to just have a main, which I waited for as my friends enjoyed their starters. I suggested that the pub moves with the times and is more flexible. On a positive note, the wild mushroom and spinach pasta dish I ordered was delicious. At £20, I think it should be though. The bread, dainty canapés and petits fours were all exquisite.More

I booked us in at The Beehive for Easter Sunday Lunch, our first visit since Dominic Chapman transferred to his new venture, the delightful Crown at Burchett's Green, earlier this year. We have been customers at the Beehive since 2017 and were regular monthly visitors...until lockdown put a stop to all that. The food was always excellent, the staff great, and the ambience smart-casual in fashion speak, so we were hopeful that the new owners would keep up the standards. The scotch eggs were excellent, an odd dish of hummus with the tiniest of roasted new potatoes was novel but in m opinion did not work because roasting them made the dish too greasy so only half of it was tasted by us all and we left the rest. Not much can go wrong with wonderful Ortiz anchovies served with very good pickled onions and griddled bread. So far so ok. The mains and service were its downfall: I had the cod - over brined and overcooked - and just about the tiniest portion I have ever been served except on a tasting menu: I didn't eat it and let the staff know I was very unhappy; similarly the breast of Guinea Fowl was another tiny portion, all made worse because the vegetables were a long time arriving as were the gravy/sauces and the food was cooling; worst of all the roast potatoes looked fabulous but so salty they were inedible, even for my son and my husband, both of whom like salty foods. The broccoli and cabbage were excellent so we took them home. We left the potatoes. It was also unfortunate that we had a very noisy family on the next table with ill-mannered children scattering food over their table and the floor - not the fault of the restaurant but it made the whole experience unpleasant. It wasn't until we got home I realised my cod had not been removed from the bill - some £34 - and nor was there any apology or offer of an alternative: I wouldn't have accepted anyway but it would have been good customer relations to at least have offered. They were arrogant by not acknowledging my complaint as genuine or important, as as a result we won't be wasting any more time and money visiting them again.More

We went to The Beehive just before Christmas with the family. The place had a very cosy feel to it, with most other tables occupied by families as well. We were given a nice table not far from the fireplace. The service was prompt and...the food was great. I had the Cornish Cod, which was excellent. My parents really enjoyed the fish & chips, while my wife loved the mushroom linguini. The kids menu was great as well. My daughter is quite picky with food but promptly finished her tomato soup and fish & chips. Overall, we had a great experience and would love to visit again during the summer.More

I would love to score this place highly but I can’t due to the complete absence of vegetarian options on the menu. Cheese soufflé (minus unnecessary ham) was absolutely delicious for a starter. Lovely ambience and good service. No main meal at all that would...cater for veggie let alone vegan. In the midst of a climate crisis, all of us need to reduce our meat consumption. But this place seems to want to alienate a huge chunk of the population by not offering a single vegetarian option at all. It’s just not good enough.More

We visited the Beehive on Sunday 17 December for lunch. I had cycled past this pub many times but never got the oppourtunity to go inside. Our experience in Beehive was very good from the beginning. The interiors are very nice and the staff made...us welcome from the start. The starters and the main course was very well presented and the taste was quite different and ingenuine. I ordered the Fish and Chips and I must say I never had such good fish and chips and the dips that came with it. My family and friends who joined us also had a very good time exploring the dishes and savouring them. The collection of drinks (cocktails and wine) was excellent too. Last but not the least, one of the best drinks I personally had for the first time was the Mulled Cider. DO NOT miss that if you go there over the winter. A big shout out to the staff who attended us and the manager and chef who personally came to meet us in the end. A brilliant service and very good fine dining English experience. Good luck to the new owners.More

Gorgeous setting with a very exciting menu ! Starters were expensive but they delivered. The soufflé was sensational! Loved every part of my meal, the only down side was the manager on clearly upset and seemed to be arguing with the kitchen which as a...diner I didn’t want to here ! Otherwise perfect cooking with some lovely members of staff. I’ll be back !More

We have been visiting Dom’s Beehive for years and happy to say the food / the welcome and ambience is still superb. Family get together for Sunday lunch, beef was perfectly cooked, yorkies amazing and potatoes crisp and fluffy. Other dishes were perfect too. Slight...glitch on desserts but the kitchen had a problem and these things happen. I am sad to see post saying “sad to see that Dom has moved on”, as far as we are aware he has not. He still oversees the pub whilst ensuring The Crown Burchetts Green makes waves. Brilliant visit, can’t wait to return. Tip … rabbit lasagne starter !More

This used to be a vibrant pub with good pub food. Sadly it has changed, perhaps the exhorbitant cost and very small portions have made customers go elsewhere. The whiting fish and chips was tiny, the chips overcooked so crispy you could not get your...fork into them or cut them. Starters at main course prices were tasty but not worth the money. Excellent wine list but no Prosecco? Unfortunately at these prices we will not return and we were the only customers leading up to Christmas. They need to decide if they are a pub or fine dining establishment and make it clear, currently, neither one nor the other!More

We have been to The Beehive several times and the food was always good and plenty full. Tonight I'm afraid was not at the same standard the portion sizes were extremely small . The sea bass both of which were over cooked, the oxtail puddings...were very small. the deserts were unfortunately on the small side pear tart especially. Definitely not good value for money. What a shame Dominic has moved on.More

I cannot fault the service. I would like to start there. Amazing and attentive staff and everyone generally very pleasant and professional. Please bear in mind this is a very personal view. I’m not vegetarian but really struggled with the menu. There were zero true...vegetarian options offered on the menu (I was asked if I had any allergies or requirements). The menu mainly for main courses offered game(venison, grouse, oxtail), or two options of fish. The remainder, especially for mains was all game or heavy flavours (ie Oxtail). Only steak on offer was fillet at £54. Would have happily had a sirloin if offered, but as one of the group was a non fish eater or game eater that only gave her one choice as the vegetarian menu wasn’t included in the original menu offering; I’m guessing because we didn’t say we were veggies. Sadly when desserts were offered we were shown the veggie menu which I would have loved (mushroom tagliatelle vs fish and chips) but options were still limited. Overall. Service lovely, menu not very inclusive unless asked for. I really want to love you but sooo expensive for a steak and chips / fish and chips. Overall for the price I was underwhelmed. Great location but food underwhelming for the price. Even just offering a chicken dish and including the vegetarian options on the actual menu could have transformed my experience tonight. I wanted to love you and support local. Maybe it’s my fault for expecting too broad a covering. XMore

A hefty price tag on all dishes, this place isn’t value for money for me but well located in an affluent part of Berkshire means it’s well supported. Food ok but nothing special.
