Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We last came a couple of years ago and gave it a 5 star rating. It was then, exceptional. However, now it was far from that. Really very disappointed. To begin we read the recent reviews and was concerned as they were so bad but...decided to go for it anyway. We wish we hadn't. On arrival told we could take any seat so we sat down. No one then looked to see or speak to us for ages. We realised on the menu it said order at the counter but when we saw a waitress go and take the order of another customer we waited. Well we waited a while. Eventually we were served. Service absolutely terrible the poor lass working clearly needs to be trained. When our food arrived our children's food was brought out and we were told ours wasn't ready and would be a whole longer. Preceding this we noticed our food has been taken past us and given to another couple. Clearly they had messed up and split our table up. Eventually our food was brought out. The portions were ridiculous....in a bad way. How can we pay loads more for an adult portion and get the same amount of chips as the children's portion? Ridiculous. No check backs to ask if food was ok. No offer of desserts or drinks. Really terrible service. Alas, we will not return and wouldn't recommend this place. Take the warnings of the many recent reviews on here.More

This used to be one of our favourite places to eat. I can only agree with the most recent comments - poor shop bought chips, mediocre batter and fish cooked in old oil. The website picture of the food no longer resembles the offering we...were served last night. Food critic Giles Coren once lauded this restaurant for serving "absolutely top-quality fish and chips" I very much doubt if he'd feel the same now!More

We got a take away from here this evening on the first night of our holiday to Broadway and was really disappointed. We are from the north so used to much better quality! The chips weren’t homemade, they were oven chips which were underdone and...tasteless. The mushy peas weren’t mushy. The fish was ok but the batter wasn’t crispy or tasty. None of us finished our portion which is unheard of for us! It was also one of the most expensive fish and chips we’ve bought!More

I have coeliac disease so to walk into a fish and chip restaurant and not only do they do Gluten free fish and chips but They do anything battered gluten free & even a Gluten free pie option. I nearly fell over! Elderly parents had...children’s portion (cod and chips) which was more than enough. Hubby had cod and chips and I had the Gluten free cod and chips. All came out freshly cooked and very hot. Batter was fantastic for GF. Can’t quite understand the poor reviews recently as food was lovely and staff were really friendly. Will be returning for sure.More

Called in today. Good choice of dishes and drinks. I had the scampi, forgot to count how many pieces before I started eating, but at least 10 large pieces. Great value for money. Very attentive and friendly staff. Highly recommend, also dog friendly xx

Just bought Cod & Chips + curry sauce. Absolutely delicious. Fish was cooked to perfection with a lovely beer batter. The chips were crispy and Fresh. Also I must comment on the absolutely delicious curry sauce. Size was ample and great for the price. I...would recommend Russell’s Chip Shop to anyone wanting wonderful Fish & Chips. If I had any negative it would be to the chef, not to put the fish on top of the chips. The oil in the fish batter goes onto the chips and can make a few a bit soggy. Still one of the best meals for taste and price.More

We haven’t been for ages so thought we would give it a go. I accidentally ordered plaice expecting it to be in breadcrumbs as per my last visit but it wasn’t. The waiter very kindly changed it for haddock and I’m so glad he did...as it was delicious. Lovely light batter, fresh fish (not dry like some places), crispy chips (not soggy like some f&c establishments), friendly service. Won’t leave it so long to return next time.More

First the bad news: the chips are clearly catering "pub" style chips now, the "Heinz" tomatoe sauce bottles refilled with that gloopy catering sauce that's synthetically sweet - when this place opened it was all hand cut, fresh, locally sourced potatoes - the type &...source of which, would be written up on a chalkboard in the restaurant. Everything here has gone down hill over the past few years, it really is distinctively average now. The good news is that it's still better than a normal chip shop, the fish is tasty & the service is uicj, even when busy. But Russell's really is just average pub food now, nothing more.More

Chips were not even home made, they were obviously from the frozen aisle of a supermarket, and minted peas were terrible, dry and hardly any to warrant a mention. Give it a miss . Very overpriced for what you get.

After a long day in Cheltenham hospital we stayed just outside Broadway for the night Hungry and tired I google the fish shop and online it said OPEN So I drove into the village there’s no parking outside the shop so I parked on the...main road and walked 5 minutes to the shop Only to find it CLOSED!! Winter hours apparently! Owner couldn’t be bothered to change opening hours on line More than disappointed! Total waste of time and energy Avoid this placeMore

We collected a takeaway for our family and were very disappointed. Batter on all 3 portions of fish was thin and wet - not at all crispy. Chips were hard and portions were small.

Made the trip to Broadway just for fish and chips in russells. We were offered a table straight away. The order was taken and our drinks arrived promptly. Part of the drinks order was wrong. Slowly the other tables started to fill up. Slowly the...food started to arrive at all the other tables but not ours. The worrying thing is that nobody stopped to wonder why we were sat there. Nobody questioned it. The girl who took the order never even twigged as she delivered food to all the other tables around us. Russells your food might be good but your service is awful 😞More
