The downstairs room looks and feels like a market town café - though one which does rather good Indian meals. The main courses we had were particularly good - fish & chicken - as were the side dishes, rice and nan. Starters were just a little mundane. Good range of drinks. Very good service. All in all we enjoyed a... More

Why don't I read my own reviews on Indian restaurants away from the big towns? I rarely have a good Indian meal where the restaurant has little competition in a town. There are a couple of other Indians in Abergavenny, but we were warned to avoid those, so friend and I ended up at the Bayleaf. A small restaurant with... More

We did not intend to have an Indian meal but it was Saturday night and a couple of restaurants that we tried said they were fully booked even if this didn't look to be true. When we arrived at the Bayleaf it was full but they were very friendly and got us a table after a very short wait. We... More

First time I have eaten a curry in Abergavenny for a number of years, as always drive to Birmingham to our,fav restaurant! But,went here as 6friends back for a reunion and friend from Australia always wants chicken dansak. The restaurant was full, a good sign, but we waited 30 mins just to get a drink, an hour for our starters... More

Collected some take away meals. When I arrived home one of the dishes was missing. The food was pretty basic, lacked flavour and seasoning, very little content in lots of sauce. Wouldn't reuse this venue.

Visited the Bayleaf on Saturday evening after a long day in Cardiff. It was about 9.30pm, we hadn't booked but they managed to accommodate three of us straightaway. Service was quick and the food excellent. There were a couple of lamb dishes on the menu which I hadn't come across before, which is a nice thing to see. All in... More

Attended with registered assistance dog Hearing Dog for Deaf people. The dog was in full designated burgundy uniform. Point blank refused entrance at the door in an aggressive and unpleasant manner. I felt humiliated. They broke the law of the Equality Act 2010. Please if you are going to run a restaurant you need to know these regulations. Wouldn't want... More

A small friendly restaurant with an excellent menu (several dishes I had never come across before). The food was very fresh, delicious and well presented.
