All I can say is WOW. This place was amazing!!! We booked here last minute and as kind of a last resort initially for our anniversary and oh my god how lucky we were to get a table here last minute! As it was a Monday, we expected it to be quite quiet but it was literally just the two of us in the restaurant which we didn’t mind at all, it made the experience even better. We ordered the duck ravioli and prawns to start, followed by the venison ragu and lamb. We also ordered a bottle of wine and the waitress (sorry I don’t know her name!) asked us if we liked rich and fruity wines and she offered us a different bottle which wasn’t yet on the menu. All the food and the wine was outstanding. Afterwards, the chef even came out to speak to us about how he’d cooked our meals. I would say it’s a little on the pricey side, but 100% worth it for the entire experience! Thanks so much and we look forward to coming back again!

Fantastic restaurant. Visited twice while in Cardiff this week. The menu is small (which i like) so the freshest ingredients are sourced and I can confirm are cooked to perfection! Waiting staff are also great and very attentive especially to the younger guest. They even accommodated our fussy grandchildren cooking a pasta sauce for them not on the menu and were able to accommodate their vegan gluten free mum. The next time I'm in Cardiff I will definitely be eating here. I would recommend booking as its small and very popular due to the food being so good

We visited mid week and found that there were only 10 other diners here. The restaurant is split on 2 floors and is very small, about 20 covers upstairs and maybe 12 downstairs. The toilets are upstairs so would be problematic for disabled diners. The menu is small but that is what the restaurant prides itself on. Fresh produce cooked to order ensuring attention to detail. My starter was "Agnello" which was a slow roast lamb with pumpkin & chickpea compote and an olive puree. The lamb just fell apart and was delicious. This came in at £9. My main course was "Genovese" which was rigatoni pasta and a ragu of beef with onions and white wine. Typically Italian, not disappointing and worth the £18. We selected a bottle of red Montefalco rosso 2017 to accompany both courses followed by coffee. The set menu is augmented by daily specials. The restaurant are wine importers and also sell wine for home consumption. Note that there are only 3 persons working here so service may take a time.

No complaints about the food itself but 3 not very big prawns (see image) for £9 and £8 for a goat’s cheese salad? Mains - we both went for crispy Norwegian haddock with roasted potatoes and a piece of chorizo at £21 each. Select Italian wine list. Good service and friendly staff but when I asked for the 10% “automatic” service charge on the 2 bottles of wine we had to be removed the owner failed to suppress a raising if one eyebrow. Listen mate - I choose to tip and certainly not on already marked up wing called profit.

Such a lovely little place! We visited for my boyfriends birthday based on the good reviews here and we're not disappointed. The menu was authentically Italian and the service was outstanding, they catered to our every need and were warm and welcoming. When I said I was vegetarian they asked me what sort of food I liked and made me something off menu. It was delicious!

We have eaten here regularly over the last year, including taking large parties there. We have never had anything other than faultless food. The team are always welcoming, the menu constantly varies as there are specialities of the day, and the price is very reasonable for the quality received.

Come here with a group of 11 work colleagues for a Christmas outing on a Wednesday lunchtime. The Christmas menu had plenty of choice, and I ended up going for the starter of Ham hock terrine, followed by rigatoni with a ragù of venison and pork. This is Italian food at its very best - big, bold flavours, cooked to perfection. I had a good appetite, but the starter, mains and a cannolo for pudding left me very happy and satisfied. Excellent wine list and knowledgable friendly staff - service was friendly and flawless. We were there for a good few hours and a no point did we feel like we'd outstayed our welcome or if the restaurant needed the table back. Three courses and several drinks ended up at about £70 per person, and for food of this quality I think that is excellent value. Really enjoyed my first visit, and I'll most certainly be back to try the "everyday" menu.

Have been here a few times and always rated it but tonight the food surpassed all expectations. Best meal I’ve had for years! This is top quality Italian cooking, no pizzas or pasta on the menu. It’s telling when the staff know all of their customers by name. Just amazing.

Found this restaurant within walking distant of our hotel. Not a large menu but interesting and appetising and as the web site says authentic Italian food freshly cooked with the finest ingredients. Friendly service. Staying two nights in Cardiff we went again the second night. Too good to miss! Lovely restaurant.

It would be very hard to find better food and wine. Casanova is a wonderful, small restaurant with friendly and caring staff. The chef, David, is fantastic and he combines wonderfully flavours and textures. There were only four starters and four main courses on the dinner menu and each one is lovingly and beautiful prepared, it is far better to have such a wonderful short menu but if you are hungry you could try the five course tasting menu or even leave it to David to prepare his own selection of food. The wines are exciting and different and I asked David what he would recommend to go with the dishes we had selected both the white and red were very different and perfect pairings. We managed to squeeze in a pudding each and they were amazing. I would highly recommend Casanova and we will be back again to try the tasting menu. It was wonderful to enjoy such caringly prepared food served by a delightfully cheerful waitress.

Just had a truly superb meal at this little gem of a restaurant hidden away off Cardiff high street in the shadow of the Millenium Stadium. I had a magnificent Osso Buco Milanese with meat that melted around the marrow filled bone on a bed of creamy bright yellow saffron risotto. My partner had a perfectly cooked grey mullet fillet with broth cooked spring vegetables and a buttery potato terrine. All in all one of the best meals we have had in a long time.

Having spent 4 weeks in hospital after 3 major back ops my treat was to be a meal in Casanova.Sadly restaurant closed due to current restrictions. However we discovered a Whats app group relating to a twice weekly take away service.Well having now experienced the wonderful dishes prepared by Antonio we are hooked!! The menus are displayed a few days before they are available so you can just dream about the taste well before you enjoy your choice of a limited but delicious menu. All dishes are freshly prepared with Anotino's Italian flair and perfectly cooked so all that is needed is a glass of typical Italian regional wine from the Casanova cellar to complete the experience!!

I have always loved this restaurant and enjoyed the excellent food and service, BUT after visiting this recently I was so disappointed . The prices have escalated and the quantities massively reduced. I left feeling very hungry and was not prepared for this. The starter , although tasty, was over before it started. A salmon strip was offered with very small pieces of beetroot and fronds of fennel. Honestly, with two forkfuls it was gone. For £11 that is not value for money. The other starter was as disappointing. The risotto , again very tasty, but it probably was not as much as two dessertspoons of risotto. Fir the same price I was not going to risk the dessert. The wine was good and at £26 a bottle was probably restaurant standard , but that was the second cheapest . The cheapest was £24. I strongly suggest that Management look at their prices and/or quantities and adjust these before more negative reviews come through. Really sorry to say this, but it was such a shame.

We stubbled upon this little restaurant while wandering around the city. It was busy at 2pm on a Monday. I went in on the off chance they had a table for that evening and was greeted by a very friendly Italian gent who kindly booked for us in. Fast forward to a very cold evening we were really looking forward to some hearty tasty food. Casanova did not disappoint. We walked in to a small down stairs restaurant (probably 6 tables) low lit and warm. There are also tables upstairs. Note, due to the size of the restaurant you are seated very close to your neighbouring tables, but honestly it was no issue to us. The lovely Italian gent seated us and gave me (unprompted) a glass of hot water to put my hands around to warm up!! My husband had recently had a knee operation and while recovering was being very careful around large numbers of steps. Our Italian gent was concerned as the toilet was up stairs and offered him to use the facilities next door which were flat. Again, so very thoughtful we were quite touched. Wine starts from around £26+ for a bottle so by no means cheap. However the list is extensive and the mid range bottle we selected was honestly gorgeous. Again our Italian gent was very attentive and on hand to advise. The menu is small but had a good range or fish, meats and vegetarian options. All I can say was that the flavours were OUTSTANDING with an authenticity I havent seen in a very long time. Again, the mains were not cheap but I would say in line with other city centre restaurants, some of which honestly are not producing this level.of quality. We would not hesitate to return for what was a wonderful experience from start to finish 🙂

Picked this place in a bit of a hurry, really glad I did. Staff friendly and relaxed, the food fantastic, lunchtime menu was quite small, so the food on offer was fresh and really tasty, i had wagu beef carpaccio with whole grain mustard and a padano style cheese, followed by the fish of the day, mullet which was cooked perfectly. The next time I am in Cardiff I’m going here.
