Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

EXCEPTIONAL! Sophie and her team were incredible from the beginning, old school service with every care taken to ensure we were well looked after and very genuine service. We’ll be back very soon, food was incredible and the service was even better. Thank you very...much :) p.s. venison was the best I’ve eaten in years.More

Really poor eating experience. Food was lukewarm. Whilst the taste was nice, portions were small with a lack of vegetables. We complained at the time but staff were not minded to take action...kind of shrugged their shoulders. Will not be back.

We went to the Cricketers today for Sunday lunch it was terrible. The food was cold, beef not even eatable full of fat, vegetables not cooked, roast potatoes hard, service poor and Turkey taste like a plastic slice of nothing! I did complain we ended...up just paying for drinks after some disagreement! Then an hour later after we had been they cancelled our reservation very odd!More

Awful Sunday lunch. Wierd turkey. Strange texture, horrible tasting greens, bland watery gravy. Terrible service, not a smile on sight. £19 per head for one course. Really disappointed. Will jot be going back

Earlier this afternoon I was served the worst caesar salad ever: a few lettuce leaves covered in dressing, some token parmesan shavings and three small pieces of chargrilled chicken breast. This culinary catastrophe cost £13. Make sure they don't see you coming from as far...away as they must have seen me.More

Great service, great beer, and an astonishingly good game pie. Pheasant, Partridge and Wood Pigeon. Under rare Cardiff sun. Impressed.

Top quality food in a pub. Terrific location, just outside the city center, but convenient. Fairly busy, so best to try and make reservations. Pet friendly.

I enjoyed a great club sandwich with a pint of Hawzat. The club sandwich was really good - probably enough for 2. The Howzat from Evan Evans was a light golden real ale and only £3 a pint (Mon - Thurs). Service was quick. An...added bonus the WiFi works really well - a rare treat in Pontcanna!More

This is a really sad review. Been going to the Cricketers for the whole five years I've been in Cardiff for special occasions and when I fancy more elevated pub food. I booked a table for this evening because my cousin is visiting from France....Usually the back of the building is a restaurant and the front is a pub. Unfortunately the table next to us got invaded by about 25 hammered guys who also crowded onto our table. We then had to spend the next hour screaming to be heard, the staff were overwhelmed and we got jostled and yelled over. It was the absolute opposite of what I intended and specifically choose the Cricketers for. Unfortunately I won't ever be coming back here. You can't charge the prices they charge for food and then expect you to eat it in the first row of the Liberty Stadium.More

Booked in for Sunday lunch. This was a set menu and on paper looked good. I opted for the "Cockles on Laver Bread, and we bother decided on the Roast Turkey. Whilst waiting we ordered drinks. Unfortunately for me I ordered a Gin and Tonic....Wasn't offered a selection and when it arrived the whole bottle of Tonic had been added previously. Starters arrived, nicely presented. But mine was lukewarm and on a cold plate. Nevertheless it was tasty. The Roast arrived. Whatever the white, rubbery, tasteless material was, I doubt it it had ever been a live Turkey. It was disgusting. Again served on cold plates. The potatoes were hot though. All in all a pretty poor lunch. My partner ordered desert. We waited and waited. After 20 minutes he enquired as to when it might arrive. The server said it was on its way. It didn't arrive, apparently it hadn't gone through to the computer! We cancelled the order and left. The bar staff just lounged around propping up the bar and didn't appear to be working as a cohesive team. A few hours later I became very ill. Vomiting. I have food poisoning and a week later still suffering the effects.. (Could it have been the Cockles?) The only thing my partner and I had eaten differently the last 2 days. It completely ruined my holiday, unable to do anything we had planned to do. Shall definitely not be returning.More

Food was fine but really weird service. Young lad at the bar initially took our order and my friends food arrived promptly but mine didn't appear. I went to ask and found that my order hadn't been passed up to the kitchen. Another young lad...apologised and sent it up. It arrived after another 10 mins but it wasn't what I'd ordered! My friend had finished her food at this point and I couldn't wait a y longer so pointed this out, but accepted the dish. The young lad told me it was the kitchens fault, but no attempt made to rectify. I asked for a couple of glasses of wine on the house to make up for it but was told he couldn't do that, though he offered me a lager!! We eventually settled on one glass of wine.More
