The North Star has had an incredible makeover, Tom, Dave and the team are providing mouthwatering food in a beautifully relaxed but professional environment. The deep fried lasagne is an absolute must try. The extensive selection of drinks has something for everyone! Book a table as soon as you can!

Having taken my father to an appointment at the Heath, we popped in for lunch. My father, being elderly, really wanted steak (his favourite eat out food) but it was not on the menu. On asking if it would be possible to get steak and chips I was delighted that not only could we have that but it was delivered to our table in a really short time. Cannot recommend them enough, a really pleasant and friendly experience

An absolute godsend. Delicious food, loads of genius vegan/veggie options and the loveliest staff! We ordered the best Sunday roast we’d ever had and were given a discount purely because we were a larger group and came to collect it. This is the first place we’ll go once lockdown ends, no doubt about it!

Let me start by saying that this would have been 5* based on the actual food - we had four Sunday roasts and they were fantastic in every way.
However, we arrived at 3pm, ordered around 3:15pm and then at around 4pm were told by the waiter that despite him writing down the order, he had forgot to put it through the system. We then waited until around 4:30pm. In fairness, he gave us two pork scratching portions whilst we waited free of charge, but the overall service just wasn’t great.
My advice to the restaurant would be to allocate specific staff to specific roles/tables, as everyone was doing everything - resulting in no one actually knowing who had done what. This isn’t necessarily inexperienced staff, moreover poor supervision/management.
I can’t highlight enough that the food was brilliant; just let down by shoddy service.

Thank you for your review, I was made aware of this issue at the end of service, had it been communicated to me sooner by my supervisor, hopefully we could have rectified it quicker, however in the madness of service it wasn't communicated, we have discussed this at length today and agreed a better procedure moving forward. Unfortunately, it was our busiest Sunday ever and I fully appreciate that things went south for a number of reasons, and reviews like this help us to ensure we get it right next time, so thank you for taking the time to reach out! Would not return to this pub. The roast dinner was far from the ‘best in Cardiff’. The potato’s were hard and the portion size was poor for over £15! The staff didn’t take our order we had to ask 3 times (over a 20 minute period) - only certain staff members could take drink orders and only certain staff could take food orders??????? Despite the restaurant being quite. Not an experience I’d expect from the ‘best pub in cardiff’.. even as a student!

I'm not one to ever leave a review of a place but this was so tasty I just had to.
After seeing the North Star Sunday lunch pop up in pictures on Facebook all the time from different people I finally decided to see what it was all about.
Absolutely incredible. Words can't describe how good the meal was. Arrived on time, still hot, everything that needed to be crispy was still crispy, all set out deliciously in the box with some of the most tasty gravy I've ever had as a side.
I'll definitely have another one, the most difficult decision now is whether to try something else or stick with the amazing roast beef!

So I’ve moved away from Cardiff and my friend has been raving about the North Star for months now so we made a booking for today before I left. Oh my goodness I wasn’t disappointed. I had 2 starters and the main. The lasagne sticks are something I’d never considered possible but extremely tasty and the black pudding and chorizo was another taste level. My other half had the macaroni balls, all I can say is nom nom nom. So two of us had the 3 meat roast and my friend had the lamb… I’ve never seen such a huge slice of lamb and the beef on mine was cooked to perfection and the pork…. Oh the pork 😍. Needless to say I’m a very happy and very full boy this evening and so glad I went. Staff are super friendly and helpful and a testament to the guys running the pub and the prices are beyond exceptional for the amount of food and the quality of food we had this afternoon. I didn’t take any pictures which I now regret, but I was too busy and too eager to tuck in and enjoy. 20/10 will be back when I’m in Cardiff next

Well organised, Fantastic service, the food was lovely, we had the Roast Beef and the Belly Pork which was literally melt in your mouth. Great atmosphere, amazing value for money. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return. Thank you.

When arriving we were greeted at door by Devin , we were then led to our reserved table(for 2) and a beautiful comfortable leather suite to relax and read the menu.drinks were promptly served to us and within 20 minutes our food was delivered, all I can say is WOW , the Sunday lunches were amazing and the service was impeccable Devin was there whenever we needed him and couldn’t do enough for us during our visit. We ordered a desert to share and it was delicious, everything was home cooked and fresh, we would not hesitate to recommend this establishment to anyone as it’s by far the best we have visited in a long while.

This place have recently been taken over by Tom and David.
Inside which so bright and airy, despite being adjacent to North Road. One of the busiest road heading into the Cardiff.
It’s a hidden gem, ( parking tip Australia Road off Whitchurch road - ample parking there! )
Let’s go back to the main event.. food... this is totally amazing for what you might expect.
Starters for our group were sensational, by Pate and chutney was so light and tasty setting my tastebuds alight ready for the main Sunday Roast. -> Lamb
Well my eyes were staggered by the mountain of colours, vegetables with a drizzle of gravey, beautifully cooked ended Lamb, accompanied by some crunchy yet soft inside roasters. The meal was topped with a Yorkshire pudding that melted in your mouth
This was a big meal but i was still looking forward to my desert, I had the granola, ( I forgot to take a photo ) but Liam had a beautiful baked cheesecake that melted as the spoon slices through it, the conserve it was arrived seemed very tangy and beautiful.
All told this was an awesome experience and one to enjoy again. Thanks Guys!

We had a great Sunday roast here today as a family of 3 vegetarians, one vegan and one coeliac. The chef went out of his/her way to accommodate us all, even making a separate gluten free cauliflower cheese for the coeliac guest which was very much appreciated. Excellent meal!

Truly awful. Took 30 minutes before they took our order after asking twice. They didn’t ask about any allergies or dietary requirements despite one member of the party having a severe nut allergy and the other being lactose intolerant. I asked for no cauliflower cheese due to a lactose allergy and the waitress responded with ‘but why’ ‘I have to ask because if I take an awkward order to the kitchen I’ll get it in the neck from the chef’. Totally rude. Her attitude was disgusting, she pulled a face as if it was abnormal to present an allergy. I was utterly embarrassed. The roast dinner came, the roast potato’s were hard as a rock and inedible. The veg is covered in some disgusting flavouring not mentioned in the menu. The root mash was lumpy and the gravy portions are so small it barely covers the Yorkshire pudding. Total rip off, poor food, poor service and an all round bad experience. Will never visit again.

At the bottom of our menus it asks you to notify the staff if you have any allergies, it's not common practice anywhere I'm aware of to ask if there are any allergies, but I'm sorry if you feel this to be an oversight. Our waitress asked why to ascertain if it was an allergy or not, for no other reason than to ensure you did not receive anything that contains lactose, such as the gravy or the Yorkshire pudding, had you notified us of an allergy at the start of ordering we would have brought you the allergen matrix and made sure we only served you suitable food.
The vegetables are seasoned with butter, salt and pepper - as is customary in most good venues, however had we known your lactose intolerance we would have omitted this. From discussing this with the waitresses and manager, no one was made aware of this allergy. The root mash is a rustic Mash not a puree or a veloute, so some soft lumps are present for texture. Gravy boats are refilled on request.
Your table was booked for 14.00 and the order was printed in the kitchen at 14 09 but we like to make sure every customer has time to fully read the menu before we take their order, including the aforementioned bottom paragraph that invites guests to inform their waiter of any allergies prior to ordering.
As you can see from our plentiful 5 Star reviews, we pride ourselves on offering one of the best Sunday Roasts in Cardiff, so we are a little surprised at your negative reviews on the food that is highly praised by many reviewers and bloggers, and food critic Jay Rayner himself.
We would invite you back to try again, as our guest, however as our waitress was left in tears by your attitude, perhaps its best if you didn't return.

Visited today for Sunday lunch. Had the beef and it was like a steak, so tenders and the gravy i could just have that on its own 😋really quick service and at least two member of staff came to check if everything was OK with our food. All the staff are fabulous especially Dev 😊

After visiting for a Sunday Roast, I had to go back and try the mid-week food menu.
Great options available for all food fans!
Me and my friend both started with the salt and pepper squid then followed by fried halloumi burger and Roast beef sandwich , Both plates full of food and to an amazing standard.
Beautiful service , amazing staff and a plethora of Welsh food and Drinks.

We saw reviews on their Sunday lunches for weeks and decided to book and try today.
We were not disappointed!
A great cosy and welcoming pub.
We had the three meat main which was so well presented and so tasty, all fresh veg too and real gravy.
The staff were extremely attentive and friendly and its clear that delivering excellent customer service is top of their list.
Desserts were so good too and although it was raining, their outdoor seating area was fantastic. We loved the living wall!
Thanks for such a great first time experience.
See you soon, we will definitely be back
