About
Purple Poppadom is the latest creation of multi-award-winning Chef Anand George. Since arriving in Cardiff in 2007, with the stated aim of ‘re-defining Indian cuisine’, Chef Anand George has further developed his culinary creations at Purple Poppadom in a style which he has coined as 'Nouvelle Indian Cuisine'. Based closer to Cardiff city centre, ‘PP’ as Anand often calls it, is a concept dear to his heart and amongst the most eagerly anticipated new eateries in the Welsh capital for many years. Pursuing his innovative '5,000 mile culinary journey' Chef continues to extend the boundaries of his cuisine by infusing Anglo-French influences, always based on his traditional heritage. For the menu, Chef has initiated his innovative combination starters, providing two or more main taste experiences on one plate for variety; such as chicken in three styles, similarly cheese or lamb. Main courses dishes include 'deconstructed' presentations such as Chicken Nawabi, which has quickly become

Every three months we at Recruit 121 run a very special event for our top performers to be awarded a Golden Ticket, to spend time doing something completely different and more importantly fun with Che Hookings CEO . From the moment we made contact with Raman the manager, he could not have been more helpful. We booked for 7 people to have a private chefs training course, which at only 3 days notice was a big ask. They were greeted by Head Chef Siddartha and his assistant who provided an outstanding, informative, witty and enjoyable into 5 star Indian food. Everyone had time in the professional kitchen practising techniques followed by a stunning meal served in the restaurant. The 3 hour event was finished off by everyone being given boxes of food that they had cooked themselves and recipes to repeat their experience at home. We have been running these Golden Ticket events for over 18 months and it was unanimous - one of the best ever events. If you love cooking and want to enhance your technical skills, do not hesitate in booking Purple Poppadom!!

normally i don't review online but i had to write for this restaurant. My first visit to purple poppadom and it has level up my expectation from Indian food. Everything was great here, starting from the poppadom to dessert. Poppadoms were served on basket unlike other restaurant and cut in pieces which made easy to dip into the chutneys No Side Plates Needed! Date chutney was lush.. Starters- Chicken Connisseur and crispy crab Three different flavors of chicken, and soft shell crab were Top Class.. Mains- we were not sure what to order but thanks to the waiter for recommending us Murgh Lambabda which is chicken tikka in creamy tomato sauce, best chicken curry i have had so far. Chicken biriyani which was unlike others top with naan bread. No curry sauce but saucy enough to eat also brilliant presentation. Dessert Chocolate samosa with vanilla ice cream best combo!! Great service was provided in a friendly manner by the floor staff. As a customer what we expect is good food with smiley service which is well maintain by the staff. Looking forward to try your taster menu soon.

What a treat the staff went above and beyond excellent service. The food was delicious best curry I have had in a restaurant ever. Some people say its expensive but you get what you pay for this restaurant was worth every penny of our money. They put a candle on my desert plate and all sang happy birthday . Thank you to all staff and management, see you soon.

We booked a table for four at PP for a Friday evening, wishing to treat ourselves an excellent family meal. Having eaten there once before, just my wife and I, we thourougly enjoyed the many course tasting menu. Back then it was a fine dining experience worth paying the extra money for! Unfortunately our last dinner, and I am going to put emphasis on the word LAST, took place when the restaturant was obviously at a full capacity, yet still willing to bring more people in. It took more than ninety minutes of going through expensive drinks before our main course was served. The starters were nice but the main meals were totally not worth the price. Makhani was great, Biryani was OK, Fish curry so overspiced (not hot, just overspiced) it tasted astringent, almost medicinal and the meal of king prawns was rubbery, with the dipping sauce in my opinion outright discusting. I expected another fine dining experience and was bitterly disappointed instead. To add an insult to an injury we did email the restaurant the same evening, stating our concerns but received no reply. In summary, if they know their chef is really up against it and still get more people in, that's just greed!

Not near as good as we hoped for. The wait staff was presumptuous in our order. We would order an item and 2 item would appear and be charged for. The food was very mild which may be UK standards but for international travelers used to Indian food, the food was bland. The entrees were a bit expensive especially for non meat items. The best food were the appetizers. Overall, the meal was very disappointing.

We have eaten here a few times and had a few takeaways during lockdown but never left a review. Our latest takeaway was the Valentine’s Day special. It was stunning, every dish was beautifully thought out and wonderfully flavoured, the addition of the chocolate brownie dessert was really lovely too. The food is always amazing, you do pay more than a usual takeaway or meal but this is NOT usual, if you haven’t tried it, do it! The winter takeaway deal is brilliant value and gives a unique taste experience.

We visited this little treat of a place on saturday evening, as an early valentines night out. Recommended by a friend, and what a recommendation it was! It was busy, but thats always a great sign, and it was rugby day in cardiff so they even had walk ins. The host and waiting staff were all working together so well, always checking on you, trying to fit people in and please everyone (but not too much) they cant do enough for you honestly. The food was absolutely gorgeous, you could tell everything was fresh and the flavours were like no other indian iv ever been to before. Will without a doubt visit again! They had my favourite wine on the menu (hardly anywhere stocks it) so they clearly have great taste haha! Well done guys, you're standing out from the crowd. Fab decor and atmosphere. Very pleased, thank you.

Table for four booked in advance. Food was very good indeed, service poor. An hour between starter and main course. Restaurant tried to justify by saying they were busy but it was easy to watch other tables who had arrived after my group get served two courses and leave whilst we had waited an hour between courses. Restaurant also thought it far too much effort to phone for a taxi back to our hotel. Friday evening a visit to The Shed in Barry as a comparison. Food again very good indeed, but service very good and without fault and a much better service experience than the Purple Poppadom on this occasion. Such a shame that such poor service should detract from very good food, spoilt the visit a little.

This is a really good restaurant that serves excellent, authentic Indian food. We had the Samosa Chaat & Chicken Connoisseur (Trio of Tikkas) for starter and the Tiffin Seabass & Murgh Lababdar for main with some dahl and a naan. All of the food was excellent though the sea bass needs special mention as it was absolutely sublime. With a couple of alcoholic drinks and a tip, the final bill came to just over £70 which is good value for what we had. Recommended when in Cardiff which is, by the way, a lovely city!

We had a super evening at the Purple Poppadom, Chef Patron Anand came out to see us as we have known him for quite a while. The restaurant has maintained its high standards and the staff were very attentive, such a pleasure to go back. We came all the way from Abergavenny for the experience and the restaurant didnt let us down very much enjoyed it.

Decided to visit the restaurant for a quiet Christmas celebration with colleagues . We were all blown away by not just the food , but the service was just 100% . You are treated so well from the moment you arrive and any questions about the menu are answered without hesitation . This restaurant is a gem and you should visit if you can !

On a flying visit to Cardiff I researched a guide “the top fifty restaurants” in Cardiff and settled on this one. The write up called chef Annand George one of the best chefs in Cardiff. Rarely do I get the chance to go to a top Indian restaurant. We were not disappointed. Loved the hubbub as we walked up the stairs and the aromas. The restaurant is lovely and we were were half an hour early but greeted by not one but two waiters and quickly seated. The food was delicious. The best Indian I have had in a very long time. The restaurant was vibrant and we had a great experience. I loved it when the waiters all grouped around a table and sang happy birthday out of tune to a diner. Just lovely.

A very highly rated restaurant which hosts a cookery school was always going to be different to the usual Indian restaurants. The menu offered a wide selection of speciality dishes (southern India) and the presentation and taste was wonderful. Service was very friendly and helpful.

It is my decision to tip not the restaurant’s. The cost for a bottle of Alan Scott sauvignon blanc was £29.95 and retails for £11.99 which is significant mark up (250%). However, my point is that a significant profit has already been made on the wine. Attempting to add another 10% to the wine is simply wrong in my view and would have raised the tip by over 100% compared to just tipping on the food alone. To emphasise the point I left no tip at all. If no automatic tip had been added I would have left 10% on the food cost.
