Popped in here to wait for rain to ease, had slice of lemon and poppy cake and hot chocolate at £5.60 for both I guess a little pricey but to be fair I enjoyed. Did have to wait about 10 mins for drinks to be ordered and have them given to me at end of que. Other cakes on counter... More

Not the cheapest but as they say you get what you pay for, and I'd prefer pay for this than a subway.... Ham and cheddar In a pretzel roll with salad. Absolutely delicious. Clean seating area and spacious too.

The place looked busy, so we ordered a veggie burger and potato wedges. What a disappointment! The buns were stale and the veggie burger was luke warm and mushy in the middle. We sent it all back and left!

We go to 'The Place To Eat' very often. I wouldn't call it a good place to eat lunch at all. There isn't much food option, more cakes than actual savoury lunch. The food quality is very poor, and bland. Won't be enjoying, but probably coming here again.

John Lewis usually has a reputation for being expensive but high quality. The Place to Eat in The Hayes in Cardiff is the former but not the latter. We decided to try it for a change while doing our Xmas shopping. We opted for the roast dinner, the usual teas/coffee/soft drinks, and the chocolate orange cake. The good: - The... More

Visited for coffee and scones on saturday morning. Ordered a plain and fruit scone. Both were very dry. Butter or flora was included in the price but very surprised to have to pay so much extra for a pot of jam and cream. Coffee was fine.

We visited during a very busy afternoon and were quite confused by the layout. There appeared to be coffee machines in three separate places and no-one was sure where they were supposed to queue. The coffee itself was fine.

Went for breakfast this morning with my mother and daughter - what a waste of £20. My mother and I both had 5 item breakfast, it was incredibly underwhelming, and barely warm. My daughter had a scone that crumbled as soon as she looked at it. My coffee came complete with lipstick on the cup. We should have gone to... More

This is a very nice cafeteria-style place to eat in the John Lewis Department Store. I have been here 3 times recently: Once for a coffee which was a pleasant break from a long shopping day. The second time was for lunch and we had a pleasant lunch. It was crowded on a big shopping weekend day, but still I... More

Visited Place to Eat this week staff were busy but nothing seemed too much trouble, my tray was carried as my hands were full, coffee was lovely as was the quiche and chips you don't mind paying a little extra for excellent service, friendly staff and clean bright peaceful surroundings. Well done John Lewis ignore the complainers in life there... More
