Lovely food, hot , well presented. Good service. The Manager very convivial and interested Will definitely return. Old fashioned inside. Don’t expect modern interior. Very typical Belfast vibe Advisable to book for Sunday lunch

Was in on Sunday in the hope of a Sunday lunch. Got the roast beef that’s on the menu and was extremely disappointed. I see a lot about their own in house butcher and own animals etc so when a few rolled up slices of...roast beef came out with stuffing in the middle it was disappointing. I was really surprised also in regards to the Yorkshire pudding. Just soggy and again a let down. Very poor and not worth the money. Would have a look around elsewhere for Sunday lunches.More

We started off with such high hopes due to the good things we heard about this restaurant. We ordered drinks and 3 glasses came out with lipstick on them which was very off putting. We were then informed after ordering wings there were no wings...available which was very unfortunate. The starter we did get the mussels was ordered in a big portion and it came out in a smaller portion. With the mains the chicken burger and roast chicken were very tasty however the beef was very fatty and barely any beef. The dauphinois potatoes were also not very appetising either. Very dissapointing visit :(More

I popped in here last night with no expectation whatsoever and was blown away by the quality and value for money. The size and thickness hit me first. Then the perfection of the medium rare cook, the flavour, the seasoning, the texture - I just...couldn’t believe I wasn’t sitting in a Michelin star restaurant in central london or somewhere. I’ve eaten some amazing fillet steaks in some of the finest restaurants around the world over the last 25yrs and I’m struggling to think of a better one than what I sampled last night. I spoke to the chef after who explained that they also source, rear and butcher their own local beef and have won awards in the past. I think the steak with sides was around £28 and I’ve paid over £100 in many 5 star restaurants before. Such an unassuming place. Friendly and helpful staff and service. Can’t wait for my next trip to Belfast. This place will be on my list now every time. Thank you Morning Star.More

We visited here on a day trip to Belfast. My partner ordered Roast Chicken and I ordered a burger. When the chicken arrived it looked nice but my partner soon realised that it was very dry and the vegetables were very hard. My burger meat...was just a frozen burger that could be bought in a local supermarket. We told the waitress that the chicken dinner was dry and she came back to us and said that she had told the chef and agreed with us. We were offered a free dessert or drink but we didn't take up the offer.More

Was in Belfast shopping on the 18th Dec 2021, decided to go to The Morning Star for Lunch. It was just 12 noon and myself and my friend went up to the restuarant just as it opened for lunch. Young lady greeted us and told...us to sit anywhere we wanted, there was no one else in the place at that time. We decide to go for a table , when out of no where appeared another "Not as Friendly Lady" and shouted "table for two, table two"" and started pointing to a table, that was not the table we where going to but was sort of forced to it in what I would describe as a rude manner. Not the kind of person I would want serving me, the first lady was much more polite. That said, we took the table and ordered some drinks, seemed to take a while for 2 Cokes, not sure what was going on there, as still no one in the place only us. People then started to arrive in quicky and it was getting busy. Waitress took our order , "the not so nice one"! We both had the Pate Starter and I had the Roast Beef Dinner and my Friend had the Turkey dinner. Cannot complain about the pate, was very nice indeed, only thing I will say, a nice bit of prober toast would have been better served with it than the chewy flat bread that came with it. Onto the main course. Both dishes arrived , looked a bit bland and not very presentable, we tucked in and agreed both dishes where cold, well not very warm, mine was just about edible , friend said his was nice just not warm enough. 2 thin slices of beef rolled up on top of mash, with some brussels cut in half and a hard carrot, not great for £15.00, had much better , much hotter and much more for half the price else where, Very little gravy, had to ask for more. Certainly gone badly down hill since previous visits. While I understand the hospitality trade is getting a hard time of late, I would have thought establishments would be trying harder to impress their clients and get repeat business. I seen to sign of that here. Keep that level up and it will drive clients away. I cannot see us going back unless I was persuaded to do so. Bill came to £60.00, very overpriced! Used to love the Morning Star now I have feel out of love with it.More
