During a couple of days in the Centre, my husband and I visited this historic pub, dating back to 1810 on two occasions. Firstly, for a drink one evening, and then returning the next day for a bite to eat before flying back home.
This...pub is a traditional Irish tavern, with original mahogany counter and an old terrazano floor. There is an upstairs, but we were downstairs on both occasions.
The pub seems to be very much frequented by locals, however they provide a warm welcome. The Guinness is great. On our second visit, we ate; I was impressed with the attention to provenance on their al la carte menu. We, however, opted for a great little deal, a hot buffet plate for just £6.95! I enjoyed creamed leeks, beef stew, slow roasted beef and mashed potato. My husband enjoyed the pie. Service was great, and the downstairs ladies toilet was clean. I would definitely visit again if I were in the city.
On both occasions, the horse racing was on the TV (the sport of choice in the venue), just in case that offends you.More
