Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Horrible food, horrible management, long waiting times, food cold, short staffed, no wine list, lots of things on the menu that aren’t there. Place is badly run…

We stumbled upon this cozy gem during our visit to Ballycastle, and what a find it was! The seafood chowder was absolutely divine—rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor. But what truly made our experience memorable was the exceptional service from the young man behind the...bar. He was attentive, friendly, and really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We'll definitely be back for more chowder and warm hospitality on our next trip to Northern Ireland!More

Called in for a few drinks on the Saturday evening. Disappointed there wasn't some live music but watching the locals was good enough. Drinks were very reasonably priced and would call again.

I think this is maybe the second bad review I’ve ever written but felt the need to after a really terrible experience last week. We went in and the place was very quiet only 2 or 3 other tables. We ordered our food and drinks....When our starters came a starter was missing and we still hadn’t got the water for the table I’d asked for. When we got the last starter I re-ordered the water. The starters were a let down for the whole table, poor bad quality food. The finished starters sat on the table for 15 minutes before being lifted. I had Turkey and ham for main, the ham was like rubber I couldn’t believe how bad it was, completely turned me off my food. Other family members commented on sides being cold. Still no water came to the table so I asked a third time and finally it came. Shocking service and very poor food. Starters were £8-£10 each which I could have got past but they weren’t even average. The whole place was also freezing as they left the door open all day. No toilet roll or soaps in the bathroom and also a bad smell. Will never returnMore

Woeful experience had here as a family. Overpriced menu for sub- standard food. I had ordered the goats cheese and beetroot salad which sounded lovely from the description on the menu, hence why I ordered it. Cannot believe what was served. Hardly any salad leaves...and I think one slice of beetroot cut into miniscule cubes. Very poorly presented and when I asked where the apple and Port chutney was that was to come with it, the server was not sure so went to check with the kitchen. Did not return untill 20mins later with a ramekin of sliced apple with some sort of purple fluid over it (pic included). Although she did apologise for the wait saying no-one could find the chutney! So I'm not exactly sure what they found and served. Needless to say it was not touched. My daughter who had ordered traditional fish and chips, had to be sent back as the fish was raw. Another one was served but by this stage my daughter had lost her appetite. Just wish I had read the previous reviews before we had stepped through the door of The Central. Will not be returning!More

Used to go regularly to the central and food was good. Last couple of times it has been less than average. Food has went down hill badly. Side salad with lasagne is basically some lettuce from what tasted like a bag of salad leaves from...spar. Lasagne was dried out and reheated. The whole bar just seems grubby and in need of a good clean. Some staff are good others look like they don't want to be there. Won't be back.More

Such a fun evening at Central Bar. Our family stopped in for a late dinner at this lovely pub. Two ordered the steak sandwich and gave it rave reviews. Live music on a Tuesday evening had the bar joining in and a full dance floor.

The Central used to be a great place a few years ago. Unfortunately, in the last 1-2 years the quality of both food and service is steadily going down. After a few bad meals we still gave it a benefit of doubt because we used...to be regular guests, but we won't bother to come again after our most recent experience. The staff is completely clueless. I've asked the server what all is in the vegetable curry, given that I've ordered it previously and it was bland and starchy, basically containing nothing but chickpeas, which is not what is described in the menu at all. The answer was "well, vegetables". Yes, but which ones? "Peppers and things, I don't know exactly, I can find out for you." This is not good enough. The servers have no clue what the restaurant they work in has to offer. Then the food arrived and we weren't given utensils. The two sauces we ordered weren't there at all, instead there were two sauces we had zero interest in. Kid's tomato pasta was a bowl of tasteless, unseasoned tomato sauce soup with pasta floating in it. House salad was bad, unseasoned, with tons of cheese and rice (?!) in it. But the biggest shock was that instead of vegetarian honey and chilli penne we were served chicken penne! The meal was virtually ordered looking and pointing at the vegetarian section of the menu, but the server didn't pay attention. They replaced the meal and the right penne were tiny. A fraction of the size of the wrong meal we initially got, it was pretty much a plate of sauce with a few pieces of pasta in it. Yet it's the same price as the meat dish. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience that cemented what we've been hearing from people from a while now, that the Central simply isn't a good place to eat anymore.More

Unfortunately the back bar floor was absolutely soaking and I fell and cut my chin and injured my jaw. A girl staff member attended me as there was a lot of blood and stated I was drunk. Regardless of how many drinks I had the...floor was completely soaking. I would advise the bar to address this before any more accidents occur. This was not a minor spillage the whole floor was wet as we slipped a few times and warned other customersMore
