Managed to book a table for 2 a few hours in advance on a Saturday night, after trying a few other places which were fully booked.
In the end we were happy that we never managed to get a table elsewhere in the first...place.
On arrival the place was all Covid-19 compliant with measures and guidance in place without being asked to follow any as it was all signed up. Even the toilets/bathrooms said to lock the door behind you so that you were the only one inside when using it.
We fell for the ‘while you wait’ food prior to our starter and had the bread board with oils and butter and also Hagis Bon Bons. Both good portion sizes which all tasted great.
Then for starters we had...
Grilled Scallops (which had a real nice char grilled taste but not over cooked at all) with cold Israeli couscous, which had lovely flavours of mango and pineapple, sweet chilli sauce and lime. Would may have been nicer being warm couscous, but nice all the same. Cold would have been fine if we were on a beach somewhere warm.
Sliced pork belly with raspberries, peaches, radicchio, watercress and apple purée with a maple dressing and sunflower seeds. This honestly tasted superb. Most flavoursome pork belly I’ve tried to date.
Main courses...
We both had the Corn fed chicken; chicken roulade, wing lollipop (small drumstick), pulled chicken Bon Bon, chicken crisp, pea purée and oregano jus.
Additionally... one of us had the sweet potato fries and buttered seasonal veg to accompany it and the other had duck fat roasted chips with buttered seasonal veg.
Main course was delicious down to the chicken crisp. The chicken roulade was beautifully cooked, the chicken in the Bon Bon was great, the duck fat roasted chips were brilliant, and the veg was perfectly cooked and was a good side to the main along with the chips so we recommend.
Desert..
Only one of us had (although both of us tried!), which was the Vanilla créme brûlée with strawberry and mint compote, tuile and strawberry frozen yoghurt. It was a dream, delightful, big portion as well, very morish. I don’t usually go for créme brûlée as I’ve never been impressed with them but I tried this and for me it was food pleasure.
So overall, really glad we got a table here. Enjoyed the food thoroughly. Service was good and attentive. Background music was also a good bonus
Thank you.
