We were in for a late lunch last Thursday (27/08) after having an overnight stay in Aberdeen. We walked past the restaurant the previous night and noticed that the place looked well decorated and generally classy and warm environment. As we were in for doors opening, it was quiet but we were well attended to by (what we think was) the manager and maybe the owner? We shared some poppadoms and an array of sauces/chutneys as well as a portion of chicken pakora for starter. All very nice, the minty yoghurt sauce in particular. For main, I had chicken chilli masala while my partner had the chicken korma. We had a bit of a wait for our mains. Not too long that we were getting restless but long enough to be assured that it was being cooked from scratch with no shortcuts being taken. Once it arrived, from the first bite, it was totally worth the wait. The masala and korma sauces were both excellent (particularly the korma) but the main thing was the chicken was absolutely perfect. I'm salivating just writing about it. The price was approximately £50 for 2 courses and 2 soft drinks each which is reasonable in general, but an absolute bargain for the quality of food we received. We got talking to the manager about the recent lockdown and he gave us a £10 voucher on our departure for our next visit. Rest assured, we will be redeeming it and even without it, we would certainly be returning.

My friend had a Spree voucher otherwise I might not have visited as I usually go to Rishis or the Shahbaaz. But I’m delighted to have found 8848 because the food was delicious. My king prawns were succulent and large and my friend’s chicken dish was extremely tasty. We liked sitting in booth number 1. The service was very attentive— at times overly attentive as we were asked a number of times if we’d like to order dessert and/or coffee. Perhaps a little more of a laid back attitude from the serving staff would have made the dining experience a little more relaxed after our mains. I’m looking forward to returning here.

It was wonderful to be back at 8848 again. The food was excellent as always, and there was something about the atmosphere of being in a restaurant that cannot be replaced by take-aways. The staff was conscious about maintaining social distance and checking temperatures when we arrived, and we felt safe during our whole experience.

Pre-booked for dinner with a friend on Saturday 10th Feb, arrived early and were seated. We ordered fairly quickly...but then, after having finished the starter we shared and finished our drink, our waiter pretty much disappeared. Over one hour after being seated there was no sign of the mains or our server (we were seated upatairs), there was no restaurant presence upstairs either so we walked out. Aberdeen dining is saturated for competition, for the prices 8848 charges this is simply not good enough. I have taken friends visiting the city there in the past...not again though. I will not be back.

I just want to say before continuing that this is 1 of our favourite restaurants in Aberdeen and I do have empathy for the current times during the pandemic. However I booked a table online for 515pm 24hrs in advance of our reservation for tonight, with no issue. We received a call from the restaurant 30mins prior to our reservation to ask if we could come straight away as the restaurant closes at 6pm . Luckily we were in Aberdeen city and was able to proceed to the restaurant early, we also placed our order on the phone to help the restaurant as we have ate there quite a few times before we were familiar with the dishes. On arrival at the restaurant I pointed out to the manager that their web page shows opening hours to 10pm and is accepting reservations, he advised they are unable to change it and said they had called previously, unforutnately we had not received a call prior to the call 30mins prior to our reservation time. We ordered, chicken madras, chicken balti and kids chicken korma with boiled rice and garlic naan . Our food was served within 10mins of arrival along with our soft drinks as no alchol permitted . Although all the dishes came with pilau rice and not boiled rice, both my chicken balti and my sons chicken tikka masala was very good, however my husbands chicken madras, which he has every visit , the chicken was tough as though it had been cooked to long or re-heated even , albeit the sauce was as good as normal as was the naan bread. We reached the restaurant at 5pm , with only 1 other table with 4 guests in the restaurant and we left the restaurant at 545pm. When presented with the bill (no one had asked if we had enjoyed our meal ) they had charged for the kids meal, when I advised that their facebook page advertised free meals for the kids during the holidays , the staff member said he would have to check, after going upstairs and returning he asked if it was only the curry or the rice also that should be deducted, ,I enquired " did he not know what was offered on their facebook page" and he said he was only part time, however the returned with a revised bill with the kids curry and rice removed. My husband said to the staff member whilst clearing the plates that he thought that his chicken was tough and the staff member laughed, my husband thought he had not understood him and repeated himself to be met with the same response. We promptly paid and left . I understand these times are hard, but when we are choosing to support a local restaurant with reduced trade , we do expect better service than this. I hope this can be improved :(

My wife and I dined here earlier tonight for my birthday. and the experience was a superb one. We had an itison voucher, which included anything on the menu up the value of £50. I had the chicken biriyani with peshwari Nan and my wife had a prawn speciality, can’t recall the name of it, and garlic and coriander naan bread. Before the main arrived we were given a couple of popadoms and dips along with our drinks. Tap water was promptly placed on our table along with my beer and my wife’s Prosecco. We didn’t have a long wait for the food to arrive, and was piping hot and plentiful. I had a lemon ice cream dessert which cleansed the palate nicely and a cappuccino to finish, my wife was full from the main! The restaurant, to my surprise and delight, gave us a free bottle of white wine to take away with us for my birthday with the compliments of the restaurant. An absolutely exquisite experience from beginning to end and we will be back very very soon!

Fantastic restaurant with great service. We were a party of seven for our mums 80th, everything was explained and they gave great advice on how we could get the best selections of starters. The food was outstanding and full of flavour, we will definitely be back and highly recommended this fantastic restaurant.

We had a beautiful dinner. Had booked in late. But got approved even at 9pm. Since we are from Leicester, indian cuisine is a daily routine for us. I must say, if this restaurant was in Leicester, it could be firing all cylinders to be on top spot. Food was super. Waiter was very friendly. Nice cozy atmosphere. Will definitely recommend and will be back next time we are visiting Scotland.

I visited 8848 with a work colleague as we wanted an early meal- the restaurant was open at the 4pm time we wanted to eat (due to an early start the next day). Social distancing was in place- the waiters wore PPE the whole time. The food we ordered was well prepared and extremely tasty. The poppadum tray was supplied with some delicious dips. A highlight was the Makkai Piyazi (onion bhaji) starter which had such a great depth of flavour it was quite unlike the usual onion bhaji you’d find in an Indian restaurant. I had a chicken dish called Chati Kukhura which I was not familiar with but was recommended by the waiter and it was delicious. My vegetarian colleague reported his paneer saag was equally good. The accompaniments (rice and garlic naan) were great. Pity alcohol was not available on this occasion but this is not the fault of the restaurant who were following the rules set by the Scottish Government. The staff were extremely friendly without being too ‘in your face’ whilst eating. The chefs were clearly enjoying their work as you could hear them singing away in the kitchen! All in all a very good experience and I look forward to my next visit! Definitely one of the finest Indian/Nepali restaurants I’ve been to!

Bhaji starter was partly burned and was not pleasant. Mains arrived and looked nice but when I tried my chicken dish the first thing I thought was how salty it was. I did not intend to say anything as I did not want to spoil the occasion for my wife. She tried her dish and said it was very salty! We debated whether we would say anything and eventually did. the manager was nice enough and offered to make the dished afresh. We agreed to share a different dish and when this turned up (we had to ask for cutlery) it was also very salty. Seems something was amis this day and I suspect the base sauce it to blame. The delicious nan bread was left on the table and by the time the replacement dish came it was cold (the manager did ask if we wanted fresh after the replacement food was in front of us - it should have been automatic). We were not charged for the mains we did not eat, but we were charged for the rice that we did not eat and the cold bread. Overall very disappointing for a restaurant that has won curry awards. I doubt very much we were the only ones who thought they had seriously over salted food this day.

Dear BIGDEK2, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback following your recent visit. I am delighted to read that our manager made a positive impression on your stay however I am disappointed to learn that our second servings also did not meet your expectations. Your feedback is very much valued and creates opportunity for us to develop as a restaurant I am sorry to read that your experience fell short on this occasion. We are very proud about our freshly prepared food and top industry standard service. I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future.

After 4 months of takeaway only, finally we were able to enjoy a selection of amazing food from our favourite Napalese restaurant once again, after it reopened this week for dine in service! Food and service were up to the usual very high standards and almost forgot how much you miss the wee extras that a takeaway cannot replace. Hope people continue to support this local business, and many others, to get then back in their feet after a tough few months for all. We'll be back again for sure! Cheers

My partner and I had dinner here on the 30th September. This was our most recent of several visits since the beginning of 2019. Being our first post lockdown visit to this restaurant we were pleased to find the food, service and professionalism was the same as with our previous visits. The only difference was the heightened care taken in following all government guidelines to keep customers and staff safe. My partner and I were both very happy with our choices, I chose the vegetarian thali option which consisted of three small sized dishes served with rice, poppadum and chutney, and a delicious rice pudding for dessert. My partner had chicken chattinad which he very much enjoyed and we shared a paratha bread which was perfectly prepared. We had a bottle of white wine which was lovely with the food. The service we received was very professional but with a warm friendly manner. We were given a money off voucher as we were leaving, however unfortunately we will not be back in Aberdeen in time to use it. We will just look forward to our next visit. If in Aberdeen I highly recommend this establishment.

Ordered food for delivery and it arrived within 25 minutes despite the predicted delivery time being 45 minutes. We ordered lamb rogan josh, lamb tikka masala, chicken jalfrezi, plain naan and tandoori roti. All of the curries were tasty and flavourful. The tikka masala was creamy and not spicy at all. The other two curries had a slight kick but more flavour from the spices than the chilli. The naan and roti were a good accompaniment to the meal. We were also given free poppadoms with dips. A great Indian in the heart of Aberdeen city centre.

8848 allowed us to use a weekday voucher on a Saturday after the latest restrictions came in, which was very much appreciated for a start. The meal overall was delicious as always. The Gurkhali chicken is always a firm favourite of mine here and would highly recommend. Thanks to the government's current (ridiculous) indoor ban on alcohol sales, we both had the Watermelon mocktails which were incredibly good! The service was again second to none and we couldn't fault our visit at all. Thank you so much. Will hopefully be back again soon enough.
