Had planned a day in Oban but unforeseen road closures meant we decided to abort our original plan and have lunch in Inveraray instead. Would have tried the highly regarded seafood restaurant but as that was closed we visited The George. Traditional and warm we...were welcomed and shown to a table. The open fire added to the cosy vibe. We reviewed the menu and all four of us choose haggis as a starter and Smoked Haddock with leeks and Mornay sauce. Both excellent, The haggis was peppery and hot served with tatties and neeps with a peppercorn sauce. The fish was naturally smoked and packed a punch served on creamed potatoes, leeks and a rich cheese sauce complemented the fish well. In hindsight we all would have had the fish as a starter and the haggis as the main course, it was so good. We then ordered the chefs homemade ice cream which were packed with flavour and nuts, really very good. Also the pear and frangipane tart was lovely. We were served by Jack, a young Irish guy with lots of personality and friendly banter. The draught beer was also very good. Thanks for a lovely lunch which made our day after a rather trying start.More

Arrived with a dog and without table reservation on a Tuesday evening, absolutely no problem and we were made to feel very welcome. Barman very hospitable. Menu was a good pub menu, and the smoked salmon starters and the main courses we chose were lovely...( gastro pub not just pub grub quality). Thoroughly enjoyed our supper there.More

Bar tender was so rude, we brought in some chips from another place, we had already brought drinks from the bar but our daughters were both hungry so we let me get some chips, the bar tender come across so rude and tells us that...we can’t eat them in there in such a rude way. I can understand that it isn’t the best to of ate them in there but they way we were told not to eat them was so rude. We eventually ended up leaving and customers stated sneering at us as we left.More

Had a good lunch.Very old charming Inn.Staff all very welcoming and food excellent both in quality and value. Nice roaring wood fire good selection of malts and well laid out tables. Would be a 5 but brought out a completely wrong dish and had to...have the other one returned to kitchen so not to go cold at our request we didn't want to eat separately the waiter wasn't that concerned.More

Not so great experience in The George. We chose to have an evening meal in The George after visiting previous years without issue. Sadly our evening meal wasn't up to standard, despite raising the concerns with the waiter nothing was done about the dishes served...cold and undercooked, particularly my sirloin steak which was ordered Medium to Well Done but was served almost Rare. There seemed to be staff issues, staff appeared agitated and almost angry, the young lady behind the bar with short dark hair was particularly rude as concerns were raised when paying. Hopefully an isolated experience as The George has a wonderful and warm setting. When speaking to local shop owners the next day, they explained a few 'issues' with staff which would explain the unusual erratic and agitated behaviour we experienced...something that needs to be addressed by the owner or even the local authorities....if thing continue as they are, should be renamed The Charlie.More

Absolutely amazing experience. The food was the best we’ve had during our trip in Scotland. So tasty. So fresh. Very well prepared. The wines by the glass were excellent. The cocktails a bit simple, but the beers made up for that. Hope to come back...some time and enjoy their superb food again!More

We opted for the George as it was the only place open for eating around 5pm. The menu was pretty limited we opted for haggis/ Neeps/tatties & vension sausage / mash/ onion gravy. My partner asked the lady serving to have the gravy on side...; how ever when it came it was all over the plate. My dish ( haggis) was a lump of stooge so I left it eating the veg only. The waiter clearing up asked us ‘ how was it’ we said not so good, he reckoned the chef had read the order chit about the gravy wrong!!! That’s a worry small order; we paid and left, seemed like they probably don’t care as there’s limited choice for people staying/ dining in the area, not actually cheap either😡More

Food here last year few years has been excellent. This year gone down hill badly. Bitterly disappointed, food cold supposedly veg to come with venison loin should have just said poorly cooked broccoli, chips soft and clearly cooked dirty oil. Wish listened to local knowledge...regarding the food not being up to standard.More

Our server was fabulous. She was very friendly and accommodating to our group. She clearly enjoyed what she was doing. The food we had was ok. We had the mussels and were very happy with them — it would be nice to have had bread...with to soak up the amazing broth they were in. The steak pie was mediocre. The pastry tasted as if it had been cooked before then reheated. The steak in the pie was tender and tasty. The place was very busy — clearly a gathering spot for locals,More

5* for the amazing bar lady Julie. The restaurant 3* due to the smoke inhalation from the fire ... I couldn't get out of there quick enough! We went for a drink at the bar one evening and that was fab. On another occasion we...stopped for dinner however the smoke was too much (would appear the chimneys need sweping). The Food was OK. My main reason for this review is the evening sat at the bar with my husband having a good chat with the bar lady whislt she was working her backside off making lots of drinks and cocktails! She was funny, chatty and made us laugh a lot. She also had good drink recommendations. Lovely to meet you Julie 😊More

Old school pub feel, several rooms, gorgeous bar, wood burning fire. Food pub style but above pub average. Smoked haddock with mashed potatoes delicious, in just the right setting.

Stayed in Inveraray for 3 nights, first night we dined at the George. The friendly and likeable waiter said there was a wait for the restaurant but if we sat in the bar, he would let us know when a table became available. He promptly...forgot us. No worries, the barman was hospitable, friendly, chatty, even had a photo with hubby!! He was fantastic! We ordered food via him as we'd learned by this point the restaurant waiter had forgotten us. Scallops were tasteless, bland and soggy, hubby had half lobster, OK, nothing special. Still hungry so we ordered frangipane and pear tart. It was just a slice of dry sponge, no frangipane, a tiny piece of pear. We were tired so called it a day, got charged well over 80 quid (we still think we were charged for an original chicken meal we ordered but they ran out). For some reason we tried again next evening. Pork and venison. Meat on both dishes cooked beautifully. Yet the sauce on the pork veg was so strong it was unedible, the potatoes were far too salty. We once again tried dessert, sticky toffee pudding. The sugar hadn't been incorporated properly, it was like eating a mouthful of granulated sugar with every spoonful of a terrible cake. Go back to basics I'd suggest.More

Heather, I've not stayed in the apartments myself. I would certainly expect there to be a kettle provided. To be sure, give them a call or an email. I'm sure they won't mind you asking.
