We were looking for a fish and chip shop and walking past we recognized this as one reviewed on Australian TV as being one of the best. We popped and it certainly didn't disappoint.

As someone who is egg intolerant I had done many hours of research into restaurants in Oban where I could enjoy fresh fish grilled not battered and deep fried. I have seen many photos on tripadvisor showing photos of beautiful grilled fish, mussels, all sorts...so I thought great we will go. How disappointed I was to arrive early Tuesday evening to be presented with a menu that I kid you not didn’t have an item that wasn’t battered! I asked the very young waitress if they offered grilled fish or anything not battered. Yet she confirmed that everything was battered! According to the menu even the steak pies are battered, surely this cannot be true! Please don’t go here unless you want fish n chips traditional style as there really isn’t anything other than that choice and ignore any pics you have seen historically on tripadvisor and Google suggesting this place offers anything other than cardiac inducing battered food! We went to George Street fish n chip restaurant instead and enjoyed food as advertised.More

It says on the front of the window 3rd in the national geographic list of chippys!!! If this was 3rd then the other two must be amazing. I can’t fault this chippy. A fish supper is a simple thing, but so easy to get wrong....They do it Wright.More

After wandering round Oban and having been up to mccaigs tower it was time for fish and chips! reviews on here read well so gave it a try! Had already had fish sandwiches from the seafood hut so just had a small fish supper between...us. lots of choices for fish, haddock, cod, sea bass, brill etc. settled on haddock and chips and waited as its all cooked to order. As it was so sunny we ate al fresco down near the harbour area. Food was delicious , batter on fish was like tracing paper and lovely and crispy too ! chips were fresh and tasty, plentiful too. certainly hit the spot and would go again if back in Oban!More

Not that great to be honest we thought we would try this chippy as it got good reviews but turned out to be disappointed,had a king rib and chips the king rib didn't taste like a king rib should and it was mushy on the...inside the chips were mostly hard and not nice, thought we would try again a couple of nights later had fish which was nice but had better and yet again the chips were like they were the last of the batch all hard and not nice, get the impression that the owner is just trying to cash in on the rick stein name , probably the same as Norrie's along the street cashing on on Gordon Gino and Fred, they would be better building there own reputation instead of using celebrities won't go there againMore

Food great unfortunately waiting staff not so. Young lady who served us looked like she had better places to be . Attitude not good. Other lady who showed us to our table seemed friendly but that changed. Our food was excellent no complaints there. System...for paying pretty hap hazard. Told her where we sat and what we had still mixed us up with others in queue. Still waiting for a thank you. Won’t be back and can’t recommend.More

Really disappointed in our experience here. The fish was nice; we chose Brill, as both pescatarians so know our fish, which was nice, but nothing more. Chips were Meh. Seriously underwhelming. Macaroni cheese was nice, but again, just nice. Have had better fish & chips...in many other places.More

We visited early afternoon with a short wait for a table in the cafe, the server was non-stop as it was busy and she was on her own, she did a great job as service was speedy. The mixture of locals and tourists made a...good atmosphere, toilets were clean. Great menu, all fish can be breadcrumbed or battered by personal choice. We ordered the fresh Haddock and Chips Tea with mushy peas, bread & butter, Tartare sauce and a pot of tea, also the Battered Cod and Chips, with coffee. Have to say that it was all hot, freshly made to order and fabulous. The batter is unique, seasoned, really light and crispy, chips were just pure yumm! The open kitchen was spotless and it was also non stop with people ordering takeaway boxes, to eat overlooking the seafront and harbour, where there are many benches to sit and enjoy the views. Would definitely recommend, we left with full tummies and big smiles. Well worth visiting.More

Slated as being Obans best fish and chip shop. And Rock Stein saying it’s the best fish and chips he’s ever had? He’s obviously not tried a lot of fish and chips! Firstly, we were forgotten about. Other tables that were seated after us had...their orders taken and food before we got seen to. 1 slice of bread and 1 small container of tartare sauce between 2? Fish, chips and mushy peas were bang average. Floors were slippy (greasy?) and just didn’t get a good feeling in the shop. The other customers didn’t help either - but the shop can’t help that! Just loud and didn’t care about anyone else in the general vicinity!More

Superb fish and chips. Light batter and well seasoned. We had sole which was excellent. The fries and fish had great flavor and weren’t overly greasy. The restaurant had closed for the evening so we took our boxes to the harbor to watch the end...of the sunset and enjoyed our meal thereMore

Twelve years since we last visited this establishment an it lived up to our memory. Excellent fish supper.
