Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel sits in a fantastic spot half way between Kilmelford and Craobh Haven with a fantastic vantage point with a view down the west coast slate islands and beyond. The grounds are expansive with well surfaced paths and dogs are welcome. Our food was...okay. Just not great value. The chips were not hand cut as advertised, there was only a choice of five sandwiches, one soup, teas and coffee and cakes etc. Fine for a pit stop, but more of a range would be good. The sandwiches were fine. Thin bread, not particularly well filled, sparse salad without any discernable dressing, signs promised table service, but we were then told to go to the bar. Not a deal breaker but the transactions were charmless. They do have a kind of captive market here, there isn't much else on offer in the locale. The hotel is pleasantly decorated with lots of local art, some of which was for sale, the grounds are immaculate and the smell of the fire is heaven. I just feel they could do better. The limited choice, dour service, and slim portions felt more like a contractual obligation than welcoming service. You expect better for a tenner a sandwich. I might suggest the service would be better if the tip was not by default.. we always tip well for good service. All the ingredients are there, but it just felt a bit miserly and charmless. Easily sorted guys. Nicer thicker bread, a little bit more generous with the fillings.More

Stopped by for lunch last week while in the area and had a lovely lunch - fish was fresh and a good portion. Good wine selection as well and while the food was a little on the expensive side for lunch it was genuinely well...prepared and delivered.More

We were staying nearby and came to Loch Melfort for dinner. All the food was absolutely delicious. The monkfish was some of the best I have ever tasted. The Highland cows in the garden were an added bonus!

Went for Sunday lunch not realising they don't do it. The lunch menu was pretty basic although the dinner menu was very large and clearly that's the focus on residents. What we did eat was good. Tidy attentive service and beautiful surroundings with a view...to die for. The bruschetta had no tomatoes weirdly but mushy peas and cheese with no flavour but other dishes were great. The highlight was the raspberry meringue dessert. We spent £75 on 1xx glass of sauvignon, 1 x coke, 2 x starters (veggie) and 1 x main (veggie) and 2 x desserts plus 1 x coffee. So roughly £40 pp . The bar & lounge is very relaxed and chilled. Just wish the brains of the hotel would add a couple of other main courses like a chicken dish and a steak (then they could roast some tatties and make yorky puds and call it Sunday lunch!) Visit here with my clients but guess it's the Kilchrenan Inn for Sunday'sMore

There’s no doubt that the kitchen team know what they are doing and do it well. Wide choice on the menu, great produce, well presented on the plate. Everything you’d expect from a fine dining experience (describing it as this based on the prices in...the wine list!) Attentive table service that could be bettered by more knowledge about the menu. Responses to questions about dishes need to make you feel that everyone is on the same page. Get the team to watch ‘The Bear’More

We had a confirmed reservation with the hotel which they chose to cancel because one of their guests chose to extend their stay. They absolutely refused to accept their fault and were rude and inconsiderate of the fact that this was cancelled without informing us...or offering any alternatives. They absolutely ruined the start of our vacation. Please avoid this hotel if you want peace of mindMore

Had breakfast, lunch & dinner here, all were excellent and proved value for money. High end dining with all the trimmings, came back for dinner 3 nights in a row- nothing compares locally!

Eaten here a few times, lunch and dinner. Prices high for what is offered. Had to season meals which I never do. Mille feuille to be avoided. Not appealing to the eye and the basil dribble is quite medicinal. However, the bread and sorbet are...delicious. Waiting staff pretty good.More

Called in for a late snacky lunch. Service was a bit on the slow side although staff were pleasant enough. Soup and sandwich were ok but overpriced. Had to hunt for someone to pay when leaving. Lovely setting but needs to up it's standards to...encourage more people to eat there.More

The attention to service has certainly improved since the last time I was here a few years back; however, the food's not great and is overpriced in some cases (and I'n being generous here and allowing for lockdown). The price of the venison - a...culled or farmed animal and not difficult to get (certainly not up here) - is ludicrous; the cod and chips was almost devoid of cod - a thin layer disguised by bloated batter; the prawn fritters were stodgy (not my definition of fritter, not even loosely); the absence of produce from the local loch was also mystifying, more so when I had been eating Melfort mussels in Edinburgh a few days earlier. I've been here several times over the last few years but I suspect this was the last.More

Friendly helpful staff on a very busy night when there was a large private function . Some dishes excellent and well served but my fish & chips was disappointingly cool with fatty bottomed small battered fish @£15.50 + 10% service. Would have complained but just...driven 300 miles, so too tired to make a fuss. Would still return and eat there. Window tables have fabulous views over Loch Melfort. Pre-Booking with a time slot is advisable.More
