Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A great venue offering local, home made produce with service levels at a very high standard. A must visit if in or near the area. Thanks to all the staff, Robert SALMOND

Not dog friendly. You can sit outside at picnic tables if the weather is fine. Go elsewhere if the weather is cold, windy or wet.

We often go to The Waterwheel after one of our walks and it is a popular place for a reason. They have a very big selection of tasty treats at reasonable prices. I have always found the staff excellent and all of the clients seem...to be a happy bunch-and of a certain age.!! HOWEVER, we did have a VERY long wait recently. To be fair , there were twelve of us and the place was very busy. We waited the better part of an hour for our food to come. It was delicious however. We had pre-booked the table and orders were taken promptly. In a way, I feel their huge choice of food is partly the problem and it must be a problem sometimes for the kitchen working from handwritten notes and separate slips for the drinks. On this ocassion I think they were the victim of their own success.Maybe less choice on the menu could help? I also wonder if computerised order taking with iPad and screen might help? This would involve training I guess and perhaps, initially , limit the number of staff taking the orders. However, we will return as the value and food is good and the staff are lovely-and happy-always a good sign of a good employer.I intend this review to be a positive help to a super cafe/team. Thank you.More

Have reviewed before after our first visit some years ago. It is now a favourite place to go for lunch. Lynn and her staff are always welcoming and friendly. The food is consistently good and always fresh. We only have a main course and so...can’t comment on the baking but it looks impressive. Very fairly priced. It is always busy at lunch time and so perhaps best to book.More

Always good food and a friendly welcome here. Food is fresh and has that home made feel which I love. I have no hesitation ringing visitors here as it's one of the best cafes in The Borders. Smoked Cheese and Cauliflower soup was first rate!

My daughter and I had lunch here. Cannot fault the place, the food and the staff. The young girl was welcoming, knowledgeable about the menu and generally pleasant and helpful. The food was delicious - fresh, hot and well presented. The cake and hot chocolate...were also delicious. The cafe is spacious, well set out, clean and comfortable. All the staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced and a great selection of both meals and cake. Cannot fault the place and will 100% be back, thank youMore

Half a dozen of us popped in here while out a bike run in the Borders. Parking was easy as there is plenty space. We were shown to a table in the shade on the veranda (it was sunny and 30 degrees) and given menus...as soon as we were settled at the table. Our food and coffees / teas were brought to the table within a few minutes by a very friendly waitress who seemed genuinely interested in where we had been. Although this was a coffee stop we intend on dropping in again soon for some lunch next time.More

Took our two granddaughters for lunch. Hot chocolate with marsh mallows a huge success! My quiche was ‘yummy’. Very pleasant staff and reasonably efficient production of lunch. Do I recommend - yes would I return absolutely.
