Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really nice staff. Enjoyed the vegan sausages which came with delicious gravy and choice of potatoes plus veg. Well priced drinks. Nice atmosphere in pub.

Traditional Scottish pub with a great selection of beers and very nice food. Popular with locals, which is always a good sign!

We hit lucky while looking for somewhere to have an early dinner while on a stopover in Dumfries. Tasty very fresh traditional pub meals and a menu of real ales. The pub was doing a well deserved roaring trade on an early weeknight evening in...November.More

We called in for lunch without booking. We were well received and taken to our table . Drinks ordered and meals ordered. Everything was first class, service , food and drinks. The place is spotlessly clean and all the staff very friendly, polite and professional....Certainly a ‘gem’ in Dumfries not to miss. Thanks everyone.More

Having looked around Dumfries for somewhere for an ad hoc meal we came across this place and were blown away. The menu had a lot of choice for food and drink, the staff were great and the prices were good too. Definitely recommended

Great place to eat. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was also nice and local so you feel very comfortable. Portions were large and worth the money. The team were kind enough to box the leftover food since our eyes were MUCH bigger than...our bellies. Would certainly recommend if you're ever in Dumfries.More

Having visited for the first time, I now travel to Dumfries regularly for work, and no matter what I make sure to visit the Cavens is on the cards. Great service, delicious food (well worth the price), & great atmosphere 😁👍

Firstly I will say that there wasn’t a problem with the food or the service for that matter, but the problem lies in the price! We had three main meals and two soft drinks and it came to over £50! The prices they are charging are...quality restaurant night time prices, not for a lunch in a pub!! Must be the most expensive pub food in the country! Won’t be heading back any time soon.More

Every time we visit Dumfries, we book a table at Cavens and order our usual: haggis, neeps and tatties with whisky sauce. My partner was looking at the ale menu and, one of the members of staff, a young lad, was very helpful as my...partner could not decide what to have. It was a choice between two ales, and this lad explained the difference between the two, the one he would recommend first. We wish we had asked his name as he was so helpful. The food was superb as always!More

Excellent food, excellent service provided by "skye" she was knowledgeable about the menu and provided us with things to do and see. Very reasonable prices of food and bar. Steak pie was very tasty. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Also...has outside seating area if you take your furry friend along.More
