My wedding anniversary dinner was excellent. Sadly as a real "fish lover" I was a tad disappointed with no scallops or flounder ....but we had to blame Storm Agnes for this. I visited The Auld Alliance on my first night in Kirkcudbright. I had read the great reviews before I booked and agree that they are extremely well deserved. I was greeted warmly when I arrived and when settled at my table I was provided with...water and lovely fresh bread. The menu is extremely varied and I settled for; crab, mussels and Parmesan tart, the sausages to follow and the raspberry crepe brûlée to finish. Everything was absolutely delicious and very well presented. The staff were very attentive and were happy to give me some time to finish my wine before ordering dessert. The overall cost is very reasonable compared with the high standard of food. I would highly recommend The Auld Alliance to anyone visiting Kirkcudbright.More

Pleasantly surprised, lived upto its reputation and could not fault. Warm friendly welcoming, excellent menu with good choices. Not rushed, automatically offered water and bread before ordering. Food arrived in good time and presented well, as well as tasting delicious. Definitely a place to frequent.

Located in the centre of town, this upstairs restaurant has a charming ambience. The menu is varied and with a French/Scottish twist. Overall, the food was excellent, starters included haggis, scallops and baked camembert. Sea trout mains were applauded as were Cullen Skink with smoked...haddock gratin, though possibly more haddock and less gratin would have enhanced the meal more. Definitely one of the top 3 places to eat in the town and one for a special occasion. Exemplary service.More

An outstanding restaurant. The number of tables is limited and it is advisable to book, as a result. I had fresh scottish scallops, a Morrocan style lamb tagine and a blackcurrant desert. The wine was also good and reasonably priced. All very delicious and served...very professionally. A delightful experience. We've booked a return visit and if we lived here, we would be regulars!More
