Very average meal for price charged. Certainly not fine dining standard. There are much better restaurants in the area for the same or less cost. Service was slow and the meals just lacked that special something. Not a fine dining experience at all. Disappointed in the standard of the food.

Visited here a few times over the years. Centrally situated and nicely laid out with pleasant staff. I prefer to find at least two things I like in each course but struggle a bit here. Maybe it's just not a place not quite to my taste. Veloute with poached egg. Both nice but together? Chicken main was fine but, like... More

Recommended by friends who have been a few times so we thought we'd try it. Found it overpriced and food a bit bland. Certainly not the fine dining experience we were expecting. If they want to charge fine dining prices then the food has to be excellent and not average.

Came just after Hogmanay. Staff, especially the Irish lass, were very welcoming indeed. The pre theatre menu was superb. Lots to choose from at a very very reasonable price. The food was beyond delicious. Would certainly recommend.

I always love the food at The Playwright and our recent visit didn't disappoint. The food is so fresh and flavoursome. The range of ingredients are adventurous but go so well together. I love the fact that you aren't rushed out so you can sit and enjoy a few cocktails after your meal.

My husband and I have visited a few times over the years and I have loved each time. This time, we arrived early and the staff were lovely, very welcoming. Had a cocktail which was fabulous. But it was the highlight of the evening: the rest of the visit was a bit disappointing. I started off with scallops and pancetta... More

Must admit was slightly disappointed in our visit the week before Christmas with friends. Had already looked at the Menu and was happy with the choices, but unfortunately the food was disappointing and certainly not up to the quality of previous visits. The staff were all very friendly, but the service certainly didn't mirror the price charged. Simple requests, no... More

My overall opinion of this restaurant is it is very over priced for the quality and food portions. I am sure the pre-theatre menu is better value for money but I certainly will not be booking the a la carte menu again. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the surroundings are nice and pleasant. The wine was good... More

Christmas works night out at the Playwright for the seventh year running - and it wasn't unlucky. They dealt with a last-minute switch in our pre-order due to an allergy and were served efficiently and courteously. Meals magnificent - I had Wasabi Cod followed by Sirloin then Peanut Butter Cheesecake. All 10/10. Another member of our party described the Pork... More

Work Christmas Lunch out at the Playwright was a great success. We had chosen to go there because of the Menu and previous years good experiences. I started with a Salmon Ravioli with Smoked Butter and Clam Risotto, it was fantastic. Second course was Turkey with lovely trimmings and then a Baked Orange Cheesecake. To be honest it was faultless... More
