Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I always look forward to visiting The Ship Inn when visiting the area. The food is delicious and the portions are very generous. There are vegetarian options too, and I’ve loved everything I’ve tried. The setting in the restaurant is lovely and there is a...little pub downstairs too.More

Booked this place on Tripadvisor reviews and recommendations, sadly I have to say we were disappointed. The place itself is busy and lively, the upstairs restaurant is cosy and has a lovely view of the lovely harbour, the food however we found to be very...bland, we had so much looked forward to our evening with friends, we booked this back in July. We had the steak pie, and haddock. The pie was ok, but the chips were dry and very in-appetising, with very little in the way of presentation, the haddock was quite tasteless, even with the sauce and the mash. Would I recommend or return, sadly….notMore

The haddock in this restaurant is first class, flakey flesh, crisp batter , decent chips with a lovely tartar sauce. We are retired and cannot eat huge portions any more but they will give half portions if asked. We try to have something else on...the menu but keep going back to the haddock as it is so good. Many seafood dishes but steaks etc too, you will find something to your liking. Treacle sponge is not treacle it is syrup sponge, English description? But delicious, far too sweet or just right for me. Decent wine list. Service very friendly . No wheelchair access upstairs but ok downstairs in bar. Busy so recommend bookingMore

100% recommend this place for food. You need to book when you go as it is very popular and not a large place. Lovely views over the water.

The Ship Inn restaurant is a great place to eat in Broughty Ferry. We popped in last night prior to going to a concert. We were welcomed by friendly staff who arranged drinks for us. The standard menu offers a great choice and there are...also a few additional dishes on the “Specials” menu. We both opted for the beef olives in a rich gravy with skirlie mash and vegetables. The dishes arrived, beautifully presented, and were absolutely delicious! Prices are reasonable and the view from the restaurant window is unparalleled in Broughty Ferry. If you haven’t tried the Ship Inn, get along now!More

Last night we went to the Ship Inn with friends. The front restaurant was very busy. The staff were brilliant, they were polite, attentive and very professional. As for the cuisine, what can one say ? We had Cullen Skink ( fantastic ! ), Highland...chicken and fish pie etc . The New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc wine was on a par with Cloudy Bay, superb ! Without a doubt, The Ship Inn is one of the best restaurants in Broughty Ferry. We are looking forward to our return. Jeff Stewart ( Senior )More

We really enjoyed our food, the service was excellent and the lovely sea view. It was a busy and humid Friday night, the staff must have felt very professional. We had the Fish basket which we really enjoyed, I would highly recommend it. I choose...the meringue for dessert which was huge and a bit dry, however, I asked the waitress for some more cream, which arrived very promptly, again with a smile. My husband Cheese and biscuits which was perfect. I would love to eat here again.More

Stopped in for a drink and I must say that the service from the barmaid, Carol, was immense but really feel sorry for her as she was on her own and seemingly expected to cope with a lot of duties. Staffing levels are appalling 😡.p

After a long day at the V&A and the Discovery we needed a good meal. Made a last minute call to The Ship Inn and they fitted us in straight away. We were not disappointed. The staff were so lovely and as for the food...was concerned it was amazing and the portion sizes were incredible. All good value for money. If your in the Dundee area and your hungry will regret not visiting.More
