Dating back to the 1850s, The Cambustay was also known as The Kittiwake for a short period before the name was changed back to its original. The pub's origins reflected the wealth of the area, wealth that was based on the trade in jute from India. The Cambustay prospered thanks to the affluent lifestyle of the jute barons of Dundee, a lifestyle made possible by the opening of the Dundee and Arbroath railway line in 1838. A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar. The Cambustay has recently changed hands again and introduced a new “Family Menu”. The menu at first seems a good large choice of traditional pizzas, burgers, other common pub dishes and a large selection of senior citizen sized choices. I hope it is just down...More

In the past, we have always enjoyed our visits to Cambustay for lunches. However, today we sampled the new menu for the first time, and were bitterly disappointed. Although the prices now seem lower, both the menu and food served lacked the finesse previously offered...More

We came to the cambustay to celebrate my sister's birthday, having come here for several years. Unfortunately the vegetables on the plates were all frozen, and 4 out of our 4 plates had lukewarm food on them. Hope this is just teething problems for the...More

It was a cold day but we got both a warm welcome and a warm seat next to a radiator! We were not looking for cordon bleu but comfort food - fish and chips, and steak pie. We enjoyed our lunch.More

Why oh why did we return to the Cambustay? In 2018 I wrote a disparaging review, vowing not to return - but in a moment of weakness we did, but within a very short space of time had recognised our mistake. What is it possible...More

Have just returned home after a meal at the Cambustay for Christmas Eve. I booked this several weeks ago, and nobody mentioned at the time that it would only be the Christmas menu available. If I had known that I would have booked elsewhere. This...More

Had a good meal here and although the place was quite busy with Xmas nights out we did not wait too long. Waiting staff all friendly and attentive. A good choice on the menu, including a Festive Menu.
