Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have always loved the Birkie but it’s just not as good. Menu changed and everything basically £14/15 per meal and a lot less choice. I had the veg Lasagne and it was extremely salty and I really couldn’t eat it. Won’t be back in...hurry.More

We visited this restaurant whilst staying at the nearby Piperdam after seeing positive reviews. We weren’t disappointed, food and service were excellent. Generous portions and sensibly priced as well. Steak pie was delicious as promised and I was assured by family that Mac &cheese was...equally delicious. Will definitely return and feel confident in recommending this restaurant.More

What a wonderful evening meal in a fantastically comfortable location. We are travelling round Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 from our home in Canada 🇨🇦 and were recommended to try the famous steak pie. It was amazing. We were wonderfully looked after by Ross and Gemma who could...not have made us more comfortable. Thank you guys for giving us a memorable meal and wonderful service.More

I chose the Birkhill Inn to host a celebration lunch for my pregnant sister and they didn’t disappoint. Brilliant food, professional staff and a lovely, cosy atmosphere

New menu in December, my favourite meal is kicked out of the menu, as well as most of the meals. Very disappointed. The customer service is great, as usual.

What a fantastic restaurant. Quality food, really delicious. And the service was second to none! We were served by Ross, we were a large group of 11 , including 4 young children and there were allergies to be aware of and Ross could not have...been more helpful. In fact the whole team were just brilliant dealing with our lively table. Thanks so much everyone for making the 40th birthday meal just perfect. We'll definitely be back. :)More

Came for a family meal on Saturday night. Nice environment and a friendly atmosphere. We sat in a busy part of the restaurant where a large family party was ordering at the same time as us, our meals came out promptly and all were good...portions and served hot. The menu is just basic food but made and served fresh. Only criticism would be to update the menus as they are a little worn out.More

We visit the Birkie every so often. This time we were there for a large party for my husband's birthday. Once again the service and food were excellent, we could't fault them on anything. Seated promptly by the manageress, Emma and taken to the small...conservatory at the top pf the steps, which was a perfect fit for our party. Some of our party had starters which looked lovely, followed by our mains. Steak pie, as always, was fantastic. Our server, a young girl with dark hair (never got her name) was very polite and cheerful. Plenty of attention to our party with drinks being offered after each course. Would highly recommend the Birkie for any occasion.More

This has always been one of our favourite places, we've been going here for years and the food was always fab. Which is why we went here for 'Grans Birthday' lunch. Unfortunately the food was way below the standard we expected and the service was...very slow. It took ages for someone to come and take a drinks order. I actually thought they'd forgotten we were there... Gran had the mac & cheese which seemed to be pasta with a bit of grated cheese on the top and no cheese underneath. it was tasteless and bland and she left most of it. Others at the table had a taste and agreed. Bland. I had the lasagne and struggled to see where the actual lasagne was.. it came smothered in a 'soup' (the only way I can describe it (photo attached) and it was very salty. I asked for no chips so my 'side' was 1 piece of garlic bread and a tiny wee bowl of 'salad' (which was green leaves, purple coleslaw and 1/6th of a tomato), I had the tomato with my salty and not very good lasagne, I left most of it. Very disappointing. I can see us avoiding this place from now on.. which is a shame as it used to be really good.More

After going to the Birkhill Inn for over 40 years I was most disappointed that the steak pie was not up to the usually standard. The steak was not the same and the pastry was not cook through and was raw underneath. I stated my...issues to the staff only to be told that I was the only one to complain and the issue seemed to be mine only. I was asked if I had been asked if everything was OK and at that time I should have raised the issue but I was only asked during my starter which was very good. The disdain from the staff was evident which I have never had before. I will not return to the Birkhill again as that was definitely not award winning steak pie.More

Most restaurants are guide dog friendly, but without sounding rude. I would not like to eat in a restaurant with any pet in it due to allergies.
