Beef and beer pie was tasty and came out fast but service was not good. Had to flag a waiter down to order food, was told they couldn’t serve me at the bar despite the hostess telling me to sit there when I came in....No one ever checked up on me (I really wanted a glass of water!) but three different servers in the span of 90 sec asked if I was finished with my food (I wasn’t), presumably to turn the table faster. Naturally once I *was* finished it took awhile to get the bill. On top of that, they charged me a service fee. Probably standard but really should have been waived in my opinion.More

Visited on a Monday evening, primarily because of the good reviews. Food and service were just ok. Would not return, since there are plenty of other options nearby.

Staff was friendly and prompt with service. We only had drinks but the experience was pleasant and the selection of alcohol is quite respectable.

This pub serves absolutely excellent food. Had the haggis fritters for a starter and salmon for a main. So tasty. The staff are really friendly and the service quick and smooth. Nothing to criticise, really! Highly recommended.

Found this pub on the way to our hotel and what a find it was. The staff work so hard to keep the turnover of tables clean and get bums on seats. Service is exemplary from behind the bar, waiting on and the kitchen. Great...choice of food, huge portions and didn't have to wait long despite the pub being really busy and catering for the fact people wanted to come in from the rain. Great burger and chips and then asked if they did brandy coffees with the cream on the top. Of course they did and one of the best I've ever had and I shared this with the staff who went on to explain how you get the cream to float and their secret recipe of putting a bit of Cointreau in the cream. Nothing was too much trouble from a great team of staff. It became our go to place and It will always be on my list of places to visit when I return.More

A good location with a good variety of food and drinks. Good portion size and the deep fried Mars bar was an acquired taste. Staff could be friendlier and it was a little chilly.

Well, WOW. First class service! We walked in, having been turned away from several establishments on the Royal Mile. One place we couldn’t get into, recommended that we try George’s place. It was a sister chain. We were greeted by Nathan, he seated us straight...away. We told him we were booked for a show at 6.15pm. We arrived at 5.15pm. He took our order straight away and the drinks came instantly!! He came back to check everything was ok, and boy was it! My fiancé had the smoked burger and he said it was the best burger he’s ever had! I had the homemade mushroom soup which was Devine! The children had chicken goujouns and they were absolutely quality! DEFINITELY coming back and highly recommend! Well done Nathan!More

Popped in here to escape the rain and have a quick lunch. Service was great with some tasty beers and wines on offer so we ended up staying to watch the rugby. My wife fancied the fish finger sandwich which was very nice and came...with a good serving of chips. Really nice place for a lunch not far from the Royal Mile.More

Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its

the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
