Visited on an incredibly quite evening in January, so much so the man serving told us they would be closing and taking a break the following day for 10 days I think. It's so beautiful inside with lovely lights, candles etc and historical features giving an overall lovely ambiance, all quite romantic! We really enjoyed our meal which was from a set price menu- especially the fish of the day which was served as a tagine with cous cous, it was really delicious. Plenty of seating upstairs too.

We were celebrating what should have been our wedding day. We were given a nice table upstairs, nice atmosphere and our servers were lovely. My fiancé ordered the steak which was cooked to perfection. I opted for macaroni cheese which was very tasty. The only reason I have marked 4 out of 5 is that being a vegetarian I didn’t have many options. Our evening was brought to an abrupt end by an extremely rude elderly couple who had an issue. They were extremely vocal and made sure everyone heard. The fact that the man disappeared for a considerable time and then blamed the server for his food getting cold was very childish. They were derogatory to all the staff and demanded the owner’s details. We made sure to thank all the staff to which the elderly couple made some sarcastic comments to us. On the whole a great evening! Will be back!!

Just had a delightful meal in this charming restaurant. It’s a bit like a Tardis inside, as we discovered when out party of six were seated on the first floor. Soft lighting, soft coloured walls provided a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. We all dined on fish for our main course - two for cod and the rest for the fish of the day which was Sea Bass. Starters were salmon, haggis and calamari. All food was of an excellent quality with superb flavours. Service was spot on - I hate it when waiting staff hover needlessly! All in all a first class evening. Will certainly book again on my next visit to this city.

This turned into a quite extraordinary evening. Ostensibly a French restaurant the menu has a delightful North African/MiddleEastern/Scottish influence. Each dish was excellent and the bottle of Château Musar Red from Lebanon was stunning. Several other things stunned but regrettably not in the same way. The social distancing seemed tight and was commented upon by two ladies at the next table. The spacing was certainly the closest of any restaurant we’d been to that weekend. Our waitress flitted around somewhat hurriedly and served us before disappearing completely before the end of the meal, never to be seen again. That mysterious event added to other niggles: paper napkins; standard sized wine glasses that had made too many journeys through the dishwasher, instead of separate red and white ones and no coffee beans atop the espresso martini. As time moved on the restaurant thinned out. Now minus a waitress, no one suggested we might like puddings as she had no replacement. We sat wondering what might happen next when a young man in black kitchen uniform entered and started spraying tables. We interrupted his cleaning and wiping down to ask for coffee. Duly served, we observed more cleaning in a now otherwise empty upper room before finally deciding to ask for the bill. The card machine duly arrived, but there was no suggestion of adding a tip, so I let my phone ping on the requested amount. I’d mentioned on the booking form that the evening was in celebration of my friend’s 70th birthday, but that was not acknowledged in any way and received no recognition. Certainly a memorable evening for the outstanding food and quite bizarre case of the disappearing waitress. We were still laughing about it the next day, but it’s not something we’d want to endure again.

Have visited here before and was always a safe bet. Went for dinner on Sunday night, ordered shin of beef with mash. Ridiculously small amount of mash. Almost embarrassing the portion size they served. To be fair to the waitress she dealt with my request for more promptly. My husband had the curry and rice size portion served in small tapas dish, effectively curry with some rice. Shame but want to back.

Hi Laura.. I am very sorry to hear you felt the portions were small :( we pride ourselves on our nice rustic and generous portions, this is what we are all about. I have passed this on to the chefs on duty that day and they extend their apologies also, they will go by our specs and take much better care next time. I am very sorry to hear that we have lost your custom. I very much hope you give us another chance Sincerely Layla

First of all, the food is great and every dish we ordered was delicious. Secondly, the service is really slow (our two course meal took just under two hours) and it was only explained when paying that this was due to Covid. If you have no time pressures then this would work for you

Was shown to our table and given the menus to choose from. A good choice of food and drinks. We have the set menu and had a really good meal. The one downside was the sides which cost £5 for a few green beans and courgettes. Would recommend.

I walked in at lunchtime (Yikes! I didn't book but they gave me a great single table) and was not disappointed. Fixed price meal was a bargain (fried haggis balls in gravy and the daily special cold salmon terrine). As I left, I casually said I'd be back tomorrow and when I DID return, the same staff said, "We were waiting for you!" Next meal was ("No menu required, just a glass of rose and the daily special), the "surprise calamari" & rabbit stew. I'll be back next August and will most likely take all lunches there, You're so good!

Maison Bleue is delightfully located on the picturesque Victoria Street and is packed with a warm and cosy atmosphere. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The Moules a la Bretonne were absolutely delicious, fresh and full of flavour. Sadly the Ribeye steak au poive was impossibly chewy and a complete let down. It was also grossly overpriced for the quality, which was a shame. £37.40 - even with the Moules thrown in, was way too much given the quality of the steak. This is a really nice restaurant and the staff were ever so attentive. I should have sent the steak back and this was entirely my fault, not the restaurants. Hopefully, just an aberration and not the norm.

Dear Isujosh, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your constructive feedback. I am very pleased to see that our team ensured you are well looked after. I also appreciate that you have recognised that had your issue with the Ribeye been raised then we would have been more than happy to rectify this for you. We have raised your feedback with our butcher and can assure you that this is a one off for which I whole heartedly apologise for. I hope that you will consider returning to MB and that your next review will be worthy of 5 'bubbles' . Kind regards, Amy

Super location, great staff but the food......absolutely out of this world, really super menu of unusual dishes presented well and tasted amazing. I will definitely be returning The quality of food was so good for the cost. 3 courses, bottle of wine and a couple of gins for two and it was just over £100.00 A bargain for

Booked a table of 4 for myself, my partner and our friends. We were greeted by a lovely girl who showed us to our table. We were taken upstairs to a very dimly lit room, far to dark and couldn't even read the menu. My friend is 36 weeks pregnant and we had to squeeze past a large group to get to our seats. They were shouting and swearing, blazing drunk. No attempts was made by staff the entire night to quieten them. Aside from this we sat at our table and chose our meal, the member of staff who took the order was completely ignorant. Abrupt manner and very unpleasant. My friend requested just a starter as her main and nothing else as afore mentioned she is heavily pregnant and this is all she wanted. We were met with a very dramatic reply that it was "no no this will hold back the chefs" if they had to prep this? Totally perplexed how ??? (Haggis balls by the way - 2 of which come as the starter) Our drinks then came, the order was wrong but changed swiftly. Overall, a total disappointment all round, food was good but the service from this 1 individual ruined the evening, we listened to the way she spoke with staff members and other customers and safe to say it was very off-putting.

Dear Geliz15, I am glad to see that your hostess was warm and welcoming. I was most disappointed to read about the rest of your experience and I would be most grateful if you could contact us at maisonbleuevictoria@gmail.com to allow me to investigate further as this is most certainly not the level of service we hold ourselves to. However, our team and myself take our duties as a licensed premises very seriously so I would like to reassure you that on the rare occasion there is a slightly rowdy group in that our team will always step in to intervene - especially under the current circumstances. I do look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Amy Restaurant Manager

I’m sad to say that maison blue has gone from wow to average since I last visited. On arrival we were presented we crumpled/ folded paper menus, with a very small selection of options to choose from. The waitress (who was pleasant and helpful) then gave us some bread..which came from a cupboard and felt and tasted like it had lived in there for a good few days! I ordered a glass of red wine (again from a very small selection available) the wine was not what I hoped for and the glass was something I would expect in a typical pub. (Short and over washed in a dishwasher). The food itself was average at best and not the usual quality i had experienced over the years in this once special restaurant. Overall a disappointing visit.

We have dined here on previous visits to Edinburgh so thought we would re-book and were delighted once again with the food and the atmosphere. Starter of calamari was full of flavour and spice and the cullen skink was to die for. We had the duck and the venison as mains and both were cooked to perfection.. Our server was knowledgable and attentive and the friendly vibes continued throughout the evening. We cannot fault this place and would highly recommend it, the setting is magical too and so well located right in the Old Town. Not to be missed! Merci!

We Booked here to have a tour and dinner. My fiancé and I have chosen here as our wedding venue for next year. Firstly, it is the most gorgeous setting, secondly, all staff couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming and thirdly- the food- WOW, completely amazing. We cannot wait to have our wedding reception here, it is a gorgeous building and has exactly what we wanted, something a little different but with the ability to have some traditions as well. We’re already looking forward to going back in the next month for another dinner and planning session. Layla has been so lovely and helpful. Couldn’t recommend Maison Bleue enough, whether it is a meal with family or friends or something a little more special, they will cater for all.

My friend and I ate here in October 21. Lovely staff and excellent food. We tried their "Calamari Surprise" a different take on the common dish and jolly nice it was. Then my friend had Sea Bass - Fish of the Day, and I had Slow cooked Ox Cheeks. Both were delicious ands we rounded off with a yummy Sticky Toffee pudding. All washed down with a Cremant Bourgogne Rose. The restaurant is built into the arches on Victoria street and this gives a great atmosphere of the old city. Recommended.

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
