Thanks to great reviews we tried Wildfire. Make sure you book ahead as it is really busy but it is well worth making the effort. The staff are attentive and great fun. The food is just fabulous. It is obviously a place for steaks and they are fabulous, cooked to perfection. Everything is so good and so fresh. Good wines... More

Nothing more to say than amazing food, great staff and lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend this. Advise to book first though, we went on a Monday evening and customers were being turned away.

A superb, intimate restaurant with fantastic food and service. Despite the restaurant being at full capacity, our host was attentive and service was prompt. Every single course was exceptional, with a special mention for the bread and butter pudding dessert, which was quite simply the best I've ever tasted! This restaurant will be the top of our list to visit... More

I booked this restaurant based on tripadvisor reviews and I wasn't disappointed. It is a small, cosy restaurant ideally located in Rose Street (down towards the Castle end). With a small number of tables, fire, stone walls and tartan seats it has an authentic Scottish feel about it that visitors to the city will love. There was plenty of choice... More

What a beautiful place, it's small and cosy with a brilliant atmosphere. We were away for the weekend and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, genuinely seemed intrested in having a conversation with you not just generic small talk, they gave up tips on bars to go to as well. The steaks were cooked to perfection and both sauces... More

Reserved a table a few months ago, as you need to book. Small restaurant with very friendly staff, cosy atmosphere. Ordered mushrooms and pate to start..Good but "not out of this world"..pate very very smooth, bordering on runny, tasted fine, I just prefer it with a bit more substance. Medium rare steaks for mains..My partners 12oz sirloin was fabulous, my... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
