What a joyous and delicious find on Easter Road! We loved the intimate nature of this neighbourhood restaurant: it has a the air of a small, utterly welcoming, family Italian restaurant, while providing a menu sophisticated in its appeal, and affordable in price. The menu, however, doesn't reveal all its secrets. when we asked for the gnocchi, it was revealed... More

I booked this restaurant as it was close to where I was staying with my family in Edinburgh for a pre-theatre meal. Included in my party was my daughter who requires a gluten free menu and my 81 year old Mum who gets very anxious. I checked with the restaurant before we went whether they could accommodate a gluten free... More

An authentic Italian restaurant in Leith! We had amazing pastas, one of which was homemade and delicious wine. Service was fantastic. Overall, a great experience. Would definitely recommend and come back!

Fantastic authentic food served in a cosy friendly atmosphere. Graziano is a great host and definitely goes the extra mile to ensure you're looked after. The Amaretto Parfait was superb!

We went before the street party for hogmanay. Graziano is a perfect host which adds to the whole experience. The food was lovely for both meat and non meat eaters. There are home made specials as well as the main menu. If you are in Edinburgh go to this restaurant as you won't be disappointed

The restaurant is small but cozy! The waiter was friendly and he did his best to make our dinner run smoothly! However it was not the only thing we appreciated, the food was great and tasty as it would be in Italy. It serve real italian food with no adaptation of the scottish cuisine!! We have a great dinner and... More

The food here is beautiful authentic Italian. The service is good and the waiter is warm and knowledgeable. He is very informative about the menu. It's a small and very relaxed restaurant, with the quality of food being very high. The fresh pasta is lovely. The cheese for desert was a tasty selection and washed down with a complimentary Limoncello.... More

Secreted away on one of the quieter stretches of Easter Road is a sparkling jewel of Italian dining – Al Dente is quite simply glorious. The walls are covered with pictures of Italian movie stars and picturesque vistas and these evocative images, along with the tiled floor and simple wooden tables, imbue Al Dente with the earthy simplicity of old Italy. But do not be fooled by this rustic interior or the attractively affordable prices; this restaurant offers the finest food and the friendliest service. A roast pepper overflows with fat grains of arborio rice, subtle but vibrant flavours elevating homely fare to five-star standards. A similar trick is played with immaculately presented mains such as porcini mushroom risotto and chicken breast stuffed with asparagus and parmesan. The set lunch is fantastic value; that diners can enjoy two courses of locally sourced, seasonal food, beautifully cooked for only £7.50 seems almost preposterous, if wonderfully so.High point: Beautiful, affordable foodLow point: The shop front is not as welcoming as the staff within
