Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Being a Malaysian, the Food here was nothing great : 1. The soft shell crab was kinda burnt & tasteless. 2. The roti canai tasted exactly like 'Kawanku' frozen roti canai & the chicken curry was very light, although the taste was ok. 3. Tofu...was dry & tasteless 4. Char Kway teow was too 'charred' & hard at some parts of the noodles, dry, tasteless and only a couple of prawns - mostly kway teow & nothing else. The 2 younger servers were very friendly. The elderly lady that I paid the bill with was very rude. When I asked her whether she was from Ipoh, she ignored me and & when I repeated the question, she just glared at me & blurted "NO!" and walked away. I will definitely not come back here & will pass the word around. It's a shame as there was no Malaysian hospitality at all.More

Tasty food, and friendly service. I can’t remember the name of the dish but it was noodles with pork and bok choi - was delicious.

I am an Edinburgh local & this is one of my favourite restaurants in the city! Everything is good but the fried rice is AMAZING - I dream of it! The staff is also incredibly friendly and kind and I feel like family whenever I...dine in here.More

Delicious Malaysian food in a small but well organised space. Not ideal for larger groups I guess but ideal for our party of 4. Highly recommend.

As frequent visitors to Edinburgh, we found this place through a BYO list and we've been coming here for years now, both here and it's former larger site. We adore Malaysian food and the cuisine here is truly delicious. The Laksa and sweet chilli chicken...was too much for us to finish. Really friendly staff, always helpful and chatty. On a freezing Edinburgh night, it was a lovely place to sit and relax and enjoy quality food. Thank you.More

Good nice foods. However, quantity of noodle in kari laksa and seabass soup was quite small. Not full after the meal.

I’ve been coming here for years for delicious, authentic Maliasion food. It’s a tiny place so I wouldn’t recommend going in a large group. They’ve had a makeover in recent years but the food remains the same. I love the fried rice and tofu. Most...things on the menu are spicy so be prepared if like me you can’t handle chilli. They do delivery too but it’s never as good.More

Best food I’ve had in years. Cozy place, nice staff, cheap prices and clean toilets. We tried the Rendang Beef and Roti & Curry.

The restaurant is quite small and there were 6 of us but we had booked ahead. The service very good as was the food. The dishes kept coming and every one of them excellent. Would definitely recommend. Can't praise it higher - apart from wine...list!More

It's a very nice lunch. Prices are reasonable. Downside though, it was a bit of a rush because it was busy and the restaurant isn't big.

Visited yesterday on our day trip to Edinburgh. The place was busy, but we managed to get a table after 20 minutes wait. Buzzing and noisy atmosphere. Curry puff, red curry with fried rice and char kuey teow were delicious. My mee goreng was not...as tasty as I remembered them. Would still recommend this place though.More

Not sure whether Kampong Ah Lee's management has changed but it definitely isn't what it used to be. Char Kway Teow was tasteless and noddles were clearly overcooked and literally mushed. Roti canai was served with an excessively spicy chicken curry, with undercooked chicken. Beef...rendang was really chewy so probably not cooked long enough to achieve the right texture and laksa was just average, safe to say we won't be rushing back. Such a shame as it used to feel like actually eating back in Malaysia.More

We meant to have a quick bite, but were captivated by the superb food. My family couldn’t get enough of the chicken satay. The curry Laksa was mouth watering. And the soft shell crab covered in sweet chili sauce and wrapped in soft bun is...insanely good! This Malaysian family run restaurant is a must try if you are visiting Edinburgh. I highly recommend it. Despite its extraordinary quality of food, price is very reasonable. Can’t wait to go back again.More
