We had a delicious meal here to celebrate a family birthday and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The dining room was quite quiet initially but filled up as the evening progressed. A huge selection of lovely fresh breads preceded an onion soup with ham hock amuse...More

We booked a table last Saturday for a birthday celebration. We had considered cancelling in view of the bad weather but as Edinburgh buses were running and the roads were clear we decided that would not be fair to the restaurant. We were the only...More

I booked the Dining Room for my birthday celebration. I was excited - having previously been a member of the SMWS when we lived in Edinburgh. In the past the original restaurant had always delivered great service, innovative food and a superb atmosphere. A lot...More

Dear guest, Many thanks for submitting a review after your recent visit. I am sorry to hear that we fell short to meet your expectation, especially regarding the ambient mess and poor service. It seems that your night on the whole was memorable for all...More

Lovely service and the food and wines were excellent. I wondered about the delivery of the food since it was only tepid when it arrived. Perhaps it is a long way from the kitchen to the dining room. Overall though very good indeed.

We have an a la carte experience that was delicious. Always sensible to limit each course choice to 5 or 6 to ensure quality. The drams were also choice with so much variety in terms of nose and taste. Loved the Longmorn which haven't tried...More

First time I have been to The Dining Room having been to Edinburgh many times before. What a great experience! The taster menu is as good as any Michelin starred restaurant. Wine choice was excellent. Whiskeys were equally excellent but for me the matching with...More

Four of us enjoyed the tasting menu. Three people with whiskey pairings and one with wine pairing. The staff was knowledgeable and the dining room itself is beautiful. Each course was perfectly sized. The crab and the skate were my favourite but all the courses...More

New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town,
until after dark when strappy dresses come out to

28 Queen Street is a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse, handy for those visiting, living or working in Edinburgh city centre.Set inside an elegant Georgian building in the heart of the city, The Dining Room continues to impress Edinburgh foodies and visiting gourmets. It’s home to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and the menu is equally patriotic, with the finest Scottish beef and seafood on offer. Chef James Freeman is passionate about seasonal produce and uses only the best ingredients in contemporary French dishes like tian of crab; saddle of rabbit with Dijon mustard; and the delicious lasagne of shellfish marinière. The room itself is stylish but unpretentious with understated décor and plenty of natural light – ideal for laid-back lunches and romantic dinners. The Dining Room offers an unmissable opportunity for diners to enjoy five-star food, fine wine and – if the mood takes you – one of their one-of-a-kind whiskys.
