Farcical lunch in the French style brasserie “Prince” - took my daughter there for lunch. We ordered two Caesar salads as mains. Typically you would expect that what was on the menu is what you would get but no anchovies ! Could not order addition...of cooked chicken with it - told by the Chef it was a traditional Caesar salad so the dish was to be according to their wishes not the customer’s ! Lardons was not listed on the brasserie menu but the salads arrived with lardons which is not a traditional Caesar salad. The menu error would be a serious issue for those who do not eat pork! Found Lardons is listed on the online menu (no anchovies). It took too many attempts to bring the right dish and embarrassingly as it was the head waiter then said the meal would be complimentary. The management need to decide what exactly should be on the menu and how to quietly satisfy the customers. Instead an American style service formula is used - no continuity folks ! However the waiter called Charles charmingly saved the day so we left a little more happy than when we arrived.More

We had a perfect dinner at Brasserie Prince. The food was excellent and service was impeccable. Our server was very friendly and made helpful suggestions and recommendations, especially for our wine selection. We enjoyed the most delicious steaks with Brandy peppercorn sauce and roquefort sauce,...and the best French onion soup ever. The cocktails were creative and beautiful. We had no appetite left for dessert, but ordered it anyway because the menu was so tempting. The prune and Armagnac tarte us scrumptious.More

For a number of reasons, Covid included, Brasserie Prince had been missing off our list to visit but how fabulous to return and find that the same amazing standards prevailed. Such a lovely atmosphere, wonderful food and enthusiastic Staff made the visit even more special....Such a varied Menu makes it hard to choose but everything looks amazing and only the finest ingredients are used. Charles served us today and his service was impecable and Pierre oversees his team’s efforts so well. Highly recommended.More

Went here on a Friday about 5ish it was cold inside. The weather outside was horrible out of the rain you want a heat.Staff were fine drinks of course premium prices but no atmosphere and there were a few really drunk guys caused no problems...but not what I expected. What a disappointing visit. On this occasion I couldn’t recommend have a drink there.More

Such a lovely, spacious and airy restaurant. As locals we come here occasionally. The service is excellent as is the quality of the ingredients and cooking. Yesterday the Belhaven, Dunbar, East Lothian Gin cured salmon was fantastic - served on a trolley at our table...with capers, etc. it was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Pierre, I don’t know if he’s a manager, was so engaging and informative about the food. Definitely go there. Afterwords, go to the other areas of the hotel to have drinks.More

This was our second birthday celebration dinner at the Brasserie, which we repeated this year after being so warmly welcomed on our prior visit one year earlier. Located inside the beautiful Balmoral Hotel, (We did not stay at the hotel, but did choose to splurge...on a lovely dinner) the Brasserie is warm and welcoming, as was everyone we encountered working at the Balmoral. Service was excellent, very friendly and attentive, and the food was outstanding. And once again, they went above and beyond to make the birthday dinner for my husband very special. They seem to retain much of their team and management, a great sign, and something which clearly fosters the high level of service we've experienced, which is still very rare post covid. For the second year in a row, we had a great experience and an excellent meal and dessert. I feel bad that I forgot names, but the manager (who has been there for several years) is absolutely stellar, and our server (she is from Canada) was fantastic as well, patiently answering my myriad questions about the menu. Truly, they are all great. We also recieved a tour of the tea room, which is lovely, and is on our list to try on the next trip. They also have a Michelin quality venue on site as well, which we have not tried. This is a great place to have a special celebration!More

I generally only leave a review when I've been somewhere truly great, so sadly I don't often get to complete a review on TripAdvisor. My fiancée and I had dinner at the brasserie at The Balmoral this evening and I suspect we will be talking...about it for some time to come. In a nutshell everything was fantastic. The food was truly delicious. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. For dessert we had the profiteroles to share and I have never had a dessert so tasty. Really wanted to lick the plate! But perhaps the best thing about the evening was the service. The attention to detail, impeccable and friendly service, yet not overbearing. A special thanks to Joanne who was just so nice, friendly, yet professional. And John the manager, thanks for the congratulations on our special celebration. For the truly privileged then this place may be just alright, but for us it was absolute perfection.More

Visited Brasserie Prince on a few occasions since having dinner in Number One at start of the 2023. We popped in for lunch and we were not disappointed. The menu changes seasonally and good value for money. Our waiter was very confident, happy & knowledgeable...on the cocktail, wine and food menus. Our food was amazing and we had another wonderful experience. We highly recommend and will definitely be back soon. xMore

We've been coming here for 11 years, and love the French onion soup and fish pie. Unfortunately we were disappointed the fish pie wasn't on the menu and the consistency of the french and onion soup was too thick not enough liquid and had a...powerful flavour which was too much so couldn't finish. We later found out it was some sort of port. Also they've changed chefs which made sense to the changes. We love the ambience and service you can't beat it anywhere. Just a shame about that dish. . The lamb was delicious though.More
