Hands down the best meal we had in Edinburgh! Make sure to book as we booked a table on Friday night and anyone trying to walk in got turned away as it was fully booked. Very small restaurant but they do have screens up between tables so feels very safe. Beautiful and cosy atmosphere with great decor.
Food is very reasonably priced for the flavours they hold! We had the signature wings, squid, special rice - all dishes were great but the wings were drool worthy! Do wish I could’ve tried their Bao but hopefully when I head back again it will be back on the menu!
Loved the sake cocktails also! Service was great and still thinking about those wings 👀

I absolutely loved it. The staff were great and made brilliant recommendations. The menu comprised of small sharing dishes including several good vegetarian and vegan options. The drinks were also very interesting. My highlight was a recommendation from a member of staff. He suggested short rib of beef and a side of rice which had a beautiful egg yolk on top and it went brilliantly together. We had about 5/6 dishes and there wasn’t a weak dish. The tofu bao bun was great as was the ox cheek.

I came with a friend for a birthday/new job/engagement celebration lunch and we had the most amazing time! The atmosphere was great, the food was delicious, the servers were fab, the cocktails were stunning. Everything was really reasonably priced, and we both went in starving, ordered 5 plates between us and left with food still on the plates (not that we didn’t try to eat it!). It can be tough to find restaurants that have good vegan options as well as meat options, and this was a meal that totally did both. Thank you, Lucky Yu!

Came highly recommended by friends who had dined in the past ! Unfortunately didn’t quite hit the standards of what I imagine they’re reaching for.
Service was extremely slow, forgetful and lacking in enthusiasm, cocktails average - the food was its only somewhat saving grace. We were happily sat in the ‘bar’ section as we didn’t have a booking and were assured it was full service, but I fear this is why our table may have been unintentionally neglected by all staff. We spent a good chunk of our meal looking around on multiple occasions to get someone’s attention with no avail.
Considering the money you pay per head (our bill ended up being roughly £140 for 2 / we really wanted to indulge, but you can definitely dine on a lower cost here) it was quite a disappointment.
A stones throw away you could visit another venue to receive prompt & attentive service, a high quality meal and delicious drinks. Edinburgh is filled with plenty of fantastic venues. Unfortunately, this time round, this experience fell short.

Medium sized, independent izakaya style place on Broughton St. Quite dark and plain inside. But the food and service were absolutely fantastic. Delicious and original cocktails, very friendly waiting staff who were quick to help with anything on the menu, and a wide range of clientele from couples to young families to those with older children. Style is Japanese sharing plates - great balance of meat, fish and veg options, and mostly gluten free. They recommend 3-4 plates per person - we ordered 3 plates each and this was a bit too much - portions are generous. The rice and the potato dishes in particular are large.

Four of us were absolutely blown away by Lucky Yu this evening. Not one plate we were served lacked anything! Everything was cooked perfectly and absolutely packed with flavour.
Service was friendly, helpful and really attentive with water being filled across the evening and constant checks on the table.
I’ve given 5 stars but have two small negatives to mention. Firstly, the cocktail we tried was £10.50 which came with a big cube of ice, we pulled the ice out to find lucky if there was 50ml of liquid in the glass… I wasn’t overly impressed. Secondly, I thought some of the prices were quite steep? Yes the food was delicious, but for example the prawn bao bun was £9.50 for one, this seemed quite a lot to me.
These are just wee things though. The food, service and atmosphere was fantastic. I think it speaks volumes the restaurant opens at 5pm and it was full by 5:15pm! Thoroughly enjoyed it, would definitely return.

Stunning!!! We stayed in Edinburgh for a week and this was by far the best place we ate and drank. The staff were also amazing - made us feel really welcome and were clearly (rightly) proud and passionate of their restaurant. Very good value for the quality as well. Would especially recommend the miso aubergine- probably the best aubergine I've ever had! The sake cocktail was also a delight.

As someone who lives locally I think this may well be the best meal I've had in Edinburgh.
The place is simple, unpretentious, cosy, and unlike so many newer restaurants in Edinburgh the acoustics are excellent so I could actually hear what my wife was saying.
They recommended 6-8 small plates for a couple. We opted for 6, and it was plenty of food. I am always asked by this app to provide photos. Unfortunately once again I set about the plates like a starving labrador and by the time I remembered about taking a photo the table resembled a war zone.
Excellent staff, excellent food, superb venue. Can't fault anything.

We looked for the best bao in Edinburgh and were recommended this place. We really enjoyed eating here but there was not a huge menu selection and only 2 bao options.
Staff were lovely though drinks service was a little slow I think due to a mix up with our pre-booked table.
The food was really good, though some items were a bit overpriced for portion size.
Would eat here again if the opportunity arose.

I had not researched this place before I went and it was booked by a friend. Arrived with no expectations, but WOW, what a great set up. Great music and warm welcome upon entering. A small but perfectly formed menu of tapas dishes inspired by east Asia. If you don't mind a bit of heat, then try the cauliflower, so good I had to have another portion. Though it was a first amongst equals - all the food was fab. And I am already planning another visit!!!

Food was tasty but nothing stand out. Our waiter was pretty inattentive and generally disinterested. One dish never arrived but was on the bill. We had to ask for it to be taken off and it was. Don’t feel inspired enough to return again.

This place came highly recommended online. The staff were nice, however the food was grossly overpriced. I appreciate the concept of small plate dining, but at £9+ per plate of mediocre food, it’s audacious to charge these prices. We ordered a range of dishes, some were fine, but the bao bun had one piece of cauliflower inside and the chicken was very dry and hard. Underwhelming and overpriced in our opinion.

It’s very good Asian fusion food in a small restaurant.
Friendly and very prompt service.
Each dish was absolutely delicious ( especially the sea bass )some dishes were small but others were larger .
We wanted to take the remaining portions away with us but were informed we couldn’t do that ?
That’s a shame .
we will go again but order fewer dishes

Had dinner here last month - to be really honest I thought the food was all very samey, lots of pulled pork seemed to pervade half the dishes, just seemed to lack real punchy flavours (potatoes were the best dish), but bao buns were just stodge and basically 10-12 quid for an open sarnie - £260 for 4 for snack food and a couple of bottles of wine.
Obviously went with quite chunky expectations given the consistency of reviews but i guess it just wasn't for us, though i couldn't fault the consistently nice staff and service..... the food though..... meh!!

I could’ve wrote bland 6 times to describe each of the 6 dishes we tried. Ambiance cute enough, though seats uncomfortable. Cocktails were the highlight but each dish (short rib, potatoes, rice +++) all tasted the same. Lightly seasoned with sesame oil and not much else. I’m not sure which cuisine this is fusion with, but seeing no Asian people in the kitchen or as guests, I’d say this was typical bland Scottish food poorly posing as Asian. Sadly, we left most the food on the plates.

Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
