We went there with a large group of people for a birthday. We were pleased with the reception and that they accommodated for such a large group (17 people). The service was fine but a few of us were unhappy about the food Firstly, it felt like the swordfish and the sea bass were over seasoned. The swordfish was manageable... More

Had dinner here last night with 5 friends. Had heard good things about the restaurant so had been looking forward to it for a while. Sadly it didn't live up to expectations. I chose poached pears for a starter but they were like bullets and had an overwhelming taste of cloves but not of any wine in which I thought... More

I really like this restaurant & should definitely visit more often. There's always a good choice of each course & I've never had a bad meal here. The prices are very reasonable too. I visited with 2 friends on Saturday at lunchtime & we could have 2 courses for £11 or 3 for £14 then £2 for sides. Between us... More

Visited early on a Saturday evening with a few friends and had an excellent, great value meal. As our meal was booked for 5.45 pm we were able to choose from the lunch set menu. We all had lovely mac n cheese to start then a variety of main courses. There is not lots of choice on the set menu... More

Took quite a bit of searching on Google maps to find exactly where this place was. But definitely worth it. Californian menu very tasty, and good wine too. Worth going back next time we're in the city.

I have previously written a review for here, last time it was just the two of us. This time it was a works lunch, 16 of us... If I tell you that there was no difference in the great service we received as a couple to this time, and to say I was impressed by this is something. The food... More

Tucked away in a side street this was a place I'd found on a voucher deal. Atmosphere was a little lacking but the food more than makes up. Amazing prices for fresh, beautifully cooked food. Brilliant selection of wines and decently priced. Well decorated and lots of memorabilia and wine information to take in. Friendly owner. Would return

A bit difficult to find but you could also say this restaurant is a hidden gem. It has a lovely atmosphere and great tasting food which was presented nicely but not overly fussy. The waitress was very friendly and attentive without being too intrusive. She gave us good advice on the Californian beers she thought we'd enjoy most and they... More

Had an impromptu meal here with colleagues. All were very impressed by the food - I had Partridge which was excellent. The owner (I think) served us and explained that he selects the wines himself. The 2 we had were both excellent and good value. Particularly liked the fact they kept our water glasses filled all the time rather than... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
