Excellent food. Very friendly staff. A must visit. Maybe slightly on the expensive side but better to pay a bit more for quality food.

Away with friends for a midweek break. We came across Karen's Unicorn by chance. Had the set meal, they say you get what you pay for, you certainly do here. Food is well presented and very tasty with a high standard of service. The staff who served us were young, but they were so friendly. Thanks for a good night... More

I went there because I wanted Dim Sum and Stack Dim Sum was closed. Karen's Unicorn (why the name? No idea!) was not so good, but acceptable. More expensive. Can't comment on the rest of their food, but the place was busy

I've been going to Karens for a number of years (only by takeaway) it's in my view the best Chinese restaurant in Edinburgh. Favourites are the char Sui pork, shredded beef/chicken with chilli honey sauce, Singapore noodles and special fried rice. I've eaten lots off the menu and I'd say these are a safe bet every time. Right, I'm off... More

Perfect food, great staff. Will be returning. The duck from the starter menu is a must and the Tsingtao lager is even better!

Atmosphere is poor. Cramped room with basic decor. Toilet had run out of paper towels and in two visits over 2 hours they had not been replenished.

6 of us went last week. Another brilliant meal. Tried some dumplings and an aubergine dish as well as our normal dishes. Both were excellent. Booking essential. Can't wait to get back there.

We visited Karen's unicorn for the first time yesterday and it will be a visit to remember, for all the right reasons. Nicely welcomed, service was absolutely first class and the quality of food was outstanding. Cannot give this place enough credit. You really must go and experience first class quality Chinese food beautifully presented.

We came here without a reservation and we were able to get a table. The food was amazing and we enjoyed the atmosphere. We started with the pork bao and ate the rest of the food family style. I would recommend you visit this place if you're craving good chinese food! If you can't get a reservation, they do take... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
