My wife and I dined here this afternoon .. was sensational ! Delicious, every course. We tried the frogs legs, snails, onion soup and coq au vin .. all absolutely magnificent. 12pm - 4 is a fixed terrific menu if you fancy it, the bistro...had a fantastic buzz and ambience about it and the staff wonderfully friendly and super efficient. A must visit and we definitely hope to be back. Terrific value for money.More

This French bistro was recommended to us by Edinburgh friends and we were certainly not disappointed. It was a latish Saturday night for which we had booked - post Calcutta Cup match - so we needed a nice place to cheer ourselves up after losing...to Scotland. The staff were most helpful and found us a corner table in a packed restaurant with hardly any room to move between the tables. Luckily for us a couple in a quiet alcove were just leaving and we were able to have their table so at least there was now a chance of a conversation between us - despite some loud music which certainly added to the already lively atmosphere. Fine for youngsters but a challenge for a couple of oldies. The food however made up for that. First rate French onion soup followed by the biggest bowl of moules that I have ever seen. It was a challenge to finish them - but we did. Impeccable, really helpful team and a fine choice for our last night in Edinburgh. Real French style and efficiency.More

Out with friends for lunch and visited Chez Jules again. The place was packed and busy with a real buzz to the atmosphere. Despite being busy the service was excellent and so along with food and wine had a great experience. Will be back for...sure.More

We have been dining at this restaurant for many years and today was the worst experience i have ever had there. The food was good as ever but the ambience was awful. The staff explained that they were extremely busy, but you are only as...busy as the number of tables you squeeze into a confined space. This is consumer experience replaced by greed for profit. The noise level was horrific and despite the restaurants best efforts the distorted music system failed to drown the persistent drunken rabble and perpetual loud cackling. We have never minded slow service but to be rushed folowed our starters which cam 45 minutes after arrivel is just awful. I would like to see this restaurant experience transposed to Paris. It would not last 5 minutes. You can barely pass between tables. The stairs to the toilets are extremely slippy. Only the toilet floors are more slippy. And for a table to arrive and be placed beside us then continually look across willing us to leave highlights the falling standard of manners in Edinburgh today. This restaurant fully deserves this type of diner. Sadly after many years and before that the other itirations of this restaurant I shall not now be back.More

I really wanted to like this as it's a proper french bistro. The water, bread, salad and so on that you get at the beginning are great. But I got the wrong starter despite having clearly said I wanted the vegetarian starter, my main course...was a starter rather the main dish that I ordered. My husband 's steak tartare was not really up to scratch. I ordered another beer for him. It never came. It was really busy and I do understand that mistakes are made but overall it was a bit of a disappointment.More

This was such a beautiful restaurant to eat at. It has such a cosy and romantic feel to it but not overcrowded. The food was absolutely beautiful, delicious and well-cooked and reasonably priced. Both me and my partner ate so well! The service was great-...wouldn’t complain about a thing. Would recommend this spot to anyoneMore

About two weeks prior, I phoned the restaurant and booked a table for 12 friends for Lunch yesterday. When we arrived they said that there was no booking marked in the diary. The Manager said that as they were busy there were no other tables...available. She apologised for their mistake but she did not appear sincere. We have been to the restaurant on a number of occasions but we shall certainly not be returning. Fortunately one of our group managed to book another restaurant nearby, Dusit, which was excellentMore

There is little I can say apart from saying that we are sincerely sincere to have lost your booking. Why would we not want to accommodate a party of 12 in the first place ? It makes no sense...I am as annoyed as you are!...More

Had to come on to leave a review of this place as we just enjoyed an absolutely delicious lunch yesterday. 3 course lunch and bottle of wine for two under 60 quid in central Edinburgh, not many places you can get that! I had goats...cheese salad to start, husband had the french onion soup. Both had steak frites and ordered 2 additional sides. Then chocolate mousse and Pana cotta for dessert. All of it was just superb and we couldn't believe the quality for the price. Washed down with a bottle of house white came to a total of 53.95! We will definitely be back and will be recommending to all. Just nice to feel you are not getting ripped off. So many places over priced these days.More

Can’t fault this place. We used to go to Chez Jules in Dublin, and Edinburgh, 30 odd years ago- and loved it then. It hasn’t changed. Still has the same charm. So busy, for a Thursday lunchtime, but happy to wait for a seat. Buzzy...atmosphere, pleasant staff and great value for money. Will definitely be back the next time I’m in Edinburgh and will have more time to enjoy more courses ( only time for 1).More

Yes it’s ever so slightly crowded, yes it’s ever so slightly loud, but the food was superb and the people were really friendly. This must be Edinburgh’s best value lunch venue and we’ve never had anything other than a great time here.

The standard at this restaurant is much poorer than it used to be and my wife and I have visited it many times over the years. It was very busy mid afternoon yesterday but that is no excuse. We ordered runner beans with our main...courses but they didn’t arrive. We ordered crepe Suzette but it didn’t arrive. Our main course for four of us arrived as a three and then after a delay the fourth arrived late. The waitress warned us our potatoes would appear in two batches with a gap in between, we had nearly finished all our main courses before the remaining potatoes arrived. What a shambles. I complained on paying and they had no idea that some of our orders hadn’t appeared at the table and I refused to pay for the beans and Crepe Suzette. They apologised and said they we’re having trouble with the tills and there was a changeover in shifts. Sorry Chez Joules that’s not my problem and you’re simply not good enough. Your standards have fallen and with other excellent restaurants in Edinburgh my friends and I won’t be back. You were a shambles! Such a shame.More

Truly an authentic French restaurant- you’d think you were in the middle of Paris not Edinburgh. Complimentary salad and breads were fresh and delicious, both starters and main were really tasty. Just lovely vibes, ambience and atmosphere. Would highly recommend!
