Amazing quality & value for money. The staff are ALWAYS very accommodating & friendly plus. observant. The steaks are delicious and well cooked. Always a lovely atmosphere. One of my favorite dinner spots in Edinburgh!

Very busy restaurant with good ambience. The salad, salami and olives were a nice welcome. The wine was good. However, the food was terrible. The staff were indifferent. We were a large group and ordered from the a la carte and the set menu. The waitress when we ordered was disinterested and kept looking around the room. The onion soup... More

So as one does, I just looked at all your Tripadvisor's contributions and unsurprisingly found a recurring theme! Somehow (don't ask me why) I felt reassured. Amazing! Is life that grey ? More

Very nice restaurant, food was average and wine was good. Very reasonably priced and therefore I would go back.

Great value. Good traditional French food. Reasonable wine. Nice coffee. Only downside is very crowded and noisy, but better than many bistros in France!

Stumbled upon this place by accident with a colleague and we were really impressed! It had a fantastic atmosphere (full to bursting at 9pm on a Wednesday night) and very reasonably priced - 2 courses + wine for two people was only £52! I had the french onion soup to start, which was brilliant, followed by the half chicken, which... More

Elogious and comforting, you left us purring! And then the "cheap supermarket bread" blow! Why o why ? Monsieur Rene, our dear boulanger is close to an apoplexy this early morning! More

I would describe Chez Jules as the perfect place to take your partner, I'm really glad I did! The atmosphere is just really romantic and its just charming. The fact that it is candle lit also adds to the experience. On to the food, before you order they bring to you some bread, salami, olives etc to nibble on. Really... More

Stopped here on the way back to my hotel for a quick bite to eat. Great food and atmosphere. Had a daily pork special which was very good with honey roast carrots and crispy potatoes. Yum! I came a bit early so there was no wait. Service was excellent as was the food. Would definitely return. Se la vie!

I have dined in Chez Jules about 3 times so far and will definitely return. Each time the food has been absolutely beautiful, even when dining on the lunch menu which is amazing value for money. The ambience each time was also great, heaing other people happily chatting and sharing food. Lovely little place.

Had lunch and it was like walking into a Parisien Bistro. Relaxed. casual and warm and welcoming. Lots of choice of standard french dishes. The set lunch menu was a real surprise offering three courses for next to nothing. The food from that menu was excellent as was the service. Recommend the house wine - much better than some more... Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
