Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This restaurant has Beata, who is very rude. From the moment I made my reservation, she shouted at me on the phone in a very disrespectful manner. Upon arrival, I immediately recognized her by the horrible way she treated all customers. We went for lunch...at 12:00 with an hour to spare. We were the first to enter the restaurant but ended up being the seventh to place our order. Our order was taken at 12:26, and the food arrived at 12:36. Considering I needed to leave by 13:00, I couldn't finish the main course due to time constraints. This person rudely asked us to leave without considering that they took our order late. I am very upset, the restaurant has good chefs, but the service from this woman is the worst I have ever received in my life. Beata provides the worst service in Edinburgh and anywhere in the world.More

Fab lunch menu at a very reasonable price. Complimentary meats, olives and salad. BUT very busy! Booked two weeks before and couldn’t be seated for lunch until 3. So definitely book in advance!

We arrived 10 minutes early but there was already a 'Q' of about 12 outside for the 1.30pm reservations, but at 1.30 prompt we were through the door and seated. Large bottle of chilled water on the table promptly followed by a basket of fresh...bread, a plate of salami and a bowel of pickles for us to nibble while we worked out what to choose from this amazing priced 3 course menu.I choose the 'pate' followed by the mussels for main. Large slice of inhouse made rough pate with slice of toasted bread which was superb, Mussels in white wine and a bowel of Frites along with garlic butter to dip them in was a delight.. Finished off with Chocolate mouse. It was packed, but service was slick, atmosphere remined me of Paris in the 70's. 3 course for 4 along with wine & beer under £70 what a bargain. Food was great as was the service, but you must book. for lunch which lasts from 12 till 4.More

We came back after a few years being away and again it did not disappoint. Steak, mussels, frites, salad and wine. What is not to like. Service was great, busy but not crazy. Will be back!

Glad we'd booked for our lunch| It was a Tuesday lunchtime but the queue was out the door. Not surprising for the price. French onion soup and goats cheese salad really good. Complimentary salad and pate. Steak small but well cooked. Pannacotta for pud. Wine...very reasonably priced. Only downside was the noise as the restaurant was so full - on a Tuesday! Quietened down around 2 pm so we could have a conversation. Very well organised service. Would definitely recommend!More

Walked off the quiet Edinburgh street into the buzzing, packed little gem of a place. Full of atmosphere and good vibes. Staff were lovely. Food, wine and coffees were great. Three course lunch for a good price. Like being back in France. Will definitely be...back. ❤👍More

Saw Chez Jules recommended in an article. Visited today with my sister and Mam - we travelled up from NE England and it was worth the trip. Lovely baguette, dressed salad leaves, olives and beautiful cured meat (not usually a fan). This came whilst we...were deciding on our meals. Took the lunch offer and it was fantastic. The French onion soup was light but decadent, the moules were delicious and the vanilla panacotta was frankly lush! With a large wine, two soft drinks, the bill was under £60. Excellent value. It was busy busy busy and I’d recommend booking. Great atmosphere.More

The first time I went to this restaurant was during the fringe..busy period, so made some allowances for the abrupt staff as the food was ok. Second visit, out of season…still rude and abrupt staff and put this down to the weather. Third time lucky,...guess what, the rudeness was in full force. Not the weather or the fringe, I guess this is how they speak to customers. So, if you want an ok lunch, reasonably priced but dont mind being treated like ???? Then this is definitely the place for you.More

I visited this restaurant based on recommendations and it didn’t disappoint. Husband ate surf and turf, the lobster and stake was cooked to perfection. I had the lamb which was lovely. We visited on a Tuesday evening in October. Most of The restaurants were quiet...In Edinburgh at 8pm, not Chez Jules it was full and had such a lovely authentic atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and professional. I will definitely visit again next time I am in Edinburgh. Booking is recommended due to popularity.More

Tres, tres bien. Authentic French food and wine with friendly staff and brilliant ambience. Excellent value for money and feels more French than many Bistros in Paris. Great place to go on a dull, grey Edinburgh day. It will lift your spirits but won’t empty...your bank balanceMore

Great cheap lunch in the centre of new town. We had an excellent lunch here, the menu for lunch is either a special lunch set menu for 13 pounds or you can order off the full a le cart. highly recommend.
