We always make a trip to piemaker when we are in Edinburgh. The haggis, neeps and tatties pie is amazing as is the traditional scotch pie. They are very filling and cheap. You can either takeaway or sit in, although there is only a few chairs around a bench.

We were looking for somewhere to grab a bite for lunch and spotted this little place. The food seemed reasonably priced and certainly hit the spot. I went back for seconds. They have limited seating around a bench inside, it was a little crowded but it was out of the cold and not too uncomfortable

I fall in love with their pies! Those are wonderful: real British food, comfortably, served warm and perfect for an evening break!! Let's try one!

strolling in the old town of Edinburgh and fancy a small scottish snack? Just pop in The Piemaker and get a scotch pie or a haggis pie and swallow it down with a sip or IRN BRU to feel scottish! I recommend to call in the morning to dispose of the full range of pies as later it might run... More

I did used to enjoy Piemaker and would often step in for a quick bite if I happened to be hungry while walking around Edinburgh, but a few years ago I swore off the place when I bit into a mince pie that contained apparently nothing but a cup of pure grease and a small turd of processed meat. It... More

Its an amazing thing to be able to eat such good pies for breakfast! They were deliciously made, the price was bellow of what I would expect and the staff is cool.

I discovered the Piemaker a little while ago by accident and it has since become one of my absolute favourite places to eat. The shop offers pies raging from the traditional cottage pie to the iconic macaroni cheese filled pie and one of my personal favourites, the vegan mushroom in filo pastry. I'm a vegetarian and am very impressed by... More

Stopped during Black Friday to grab a bit to go on with. Hubby had a pastie, I had a pork pie. Both were good, lovely crusts. The pork pie was a bit fatty for me, but that's the style of the food here. Well spiced, good flavour. Reasonably quick and reasonably priced.

You can take the girl out of Scotland but when she returns she makes a beeline to The Piemaker for a Macaroni Pie. Only £1.20 too. Doesn't take much to make me happy.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
