Disappointed Visited with family. Afternoon lunch Expensive for what you got for your money.

I was plesently surprised with how good the food was and the friendly staff would recommend a visit.
Stopped in on a rainy day after a visit to the castle. We had the steak and Guinness pie and the monkfish. The monkfish was good, the steak and Guinness so-so. It consisted of a ladle of steak soup, a glop of mashed potatoes, some...greens, and a chunk of puff pastry that had been puffed in the oven and placed on top. About the only complaint about the monkfish is that there was so much of it. Portion sizes are large. The interior of the place is as the name indicates, largely tile not wood. Looking a the menu you get the feeling that this place is somewhat more geared toward tourists than locals. Everyone we talked to was visiting.More
Chicken Cesar salad was very poor quality and expensive. Its not a difficult thing to get right, but stale croutons and a dusting of parmesan at 17 pounds made it feel like a rip off.
Beautiful decor and very comfortable place to have a drink. Great selection of Scotch’s. Good staff that was very attentive. Nice selection of specialty drinks.
GREAT PUB. Beautiful building, friendly staff, great beer and plenty of seating, what’s not to like?!?
Popped in for a couple of drinks on a night out. Nice friendly staff, reasonably priced drinks, big screen TV and reasonable amount of seating. Quirky tiles all over the walls, my wife thought it may have been a swimming pool in a previous life...lol. Nice place to visit, no pretentiousness and ideal if watching something on TV or a nice day sitting outside watching the world go by.More
Nice place close to the center to have beers and taste haggis. We also had the beef, but it wasn't as tender as expected. Not bad either, just could have been a bit less chewy. Friendly staff, we didn't have a reservation bu they were...very accommodating.More
I had heard that the best fish and chips in the UK can be found in Edinburgh. I have no reason to doubt this claim based on our excellent lunch at the Tiles Cafe Bar in Edinburgh. The Tiles is located a block off of...Princes Street on the East end of New Town. This cafe is named for the extensive ceramic tile work that covers the walls and ceilings. The elegant Cafe Royal and Guilford Arms bars are located nearby so can easily compare three of the most elaborate pubs in Edinburgh. We started our lunch on a cold and windy day with house-made potato and leek soup. It was delicious and surprisingly it was not cream based. My sweetheart's classic fish and chips featured an entire one-pound white fish fillet fried in a beer batter crust that tasted like it was freshly caught in the North Sea. There were big smiles at our table as we shared this plate. I wanted to try haggis on my first trip to Scotland, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this hash made from sheep organs and barley. It tasted like a spicy and warm liver pate that will fill you up on a chilly day. The haggis was accompanied by traditional Neeps ( mashed turnips and carrots) and Tatties (mashed potatoes) which made for a hearty meal. The whiskey cream sauce only added to the great flavor of this dish. My wife spotted a 'banoffe" (banana and toffee) pie claiming she hadn't see one in decades. I am not a dessert fan, but this was sinfully good. Strong recommendation for lunch at Tiles Cafe pub. It is justifiably popular with locals, so get there early to secure a table.More
Very elegantly appointed pub. Service was excellent and food was very good. Will return next time we are in Edinburgh..
Loved this historic eatery, though not large - nice decor/architecture, great location! Fortunately went early - 5:30pm and got one of the last tables on a Fri evening for dinner. Good service and food - would recommend!
Stopped off here for lunch on Saturday and sat outside, as the weather was lovely. I ordered macaroni and cheese and my partner ordered the club sandwich which he said was average. Before receiving our drinks or food, we were presented with the bill to...pay, which I thought was a bit odd but I paid straight away as requested. The bill also included a service charge which I ended up pretty annoyed about as the service was poor. No one came to ask if everything was ok (assuming this is because we have already paid) and unfortunately the macaroni was honestly the worst I've ever had. It was that bad I could only manage a few bites. We decided to leave and just as we were walking away, a member of staff came out and removed our plates. They didn't even ask if there was a problem with the full plate of macaroni left. Only plus was the chunky chips were nice. Definitely won't be back.More
I came here to eat before going to the Edinburgh Book Festival. Ordered a sirloin steak and chips and WOW was it great. The steak was delicious and was a great call back to steaks as I haven’t had a steak in a while. Chips...were good and went well with the steak. Amazing cooking from the chef, 5/5 meal, will be coming back!More
As barman said don't come here if you want cheap drinks. Very expensive if just wanting beer. Came in at lunch time and drinks were much cheaper. Disappointed with evening prices.
Good outdoor seating area, so stopped for a drink and stayed for food. Service was great, plenty staff, so served quick every time and staff very pleasant. Steak & Guinness pie and BBQ pork arancini both very good.
