Head to The Golden Dragon every year with my mum as part of our annual Christmas shopping day. Always get a warm welcome. Food was hot and very tasty. Chopsticks always offered although I stick with cutlery my mum loves to use them. Recommend for a nice authentic quiet meal. Will be back next year!

The food was all tasty although I didn’t like the finely chopped lemon rind on my lemon chicken which was difficult to avoid. Also quite shocked as hadn’t noticed that the fried rice was £4.50 each which meant one bowl of rice cost £22.50 between 5 of us, plus 10% service charge. Probably wouldn’t rush back although everyone did enjoy their food.

Dear Mandy003. Thank you for your custom and visit of 6 friends. We do value your feedback and I had forward you opinions on the Lemon Rind on your lemon chicken to our kitchen team. Sometimes we use finely sliced lemon or sometimes we chop it to release rind flavour. We hope you come and visit us again in the near future. Thank you for your visit.

This restaurant was a back up choice on a Saturday night because the Chinese restaurant we first tried had no tables. The restaurant had quite harsh lighting and for the cost of the food it wasn’t exactly a premium appearing place. The food was mediocre and quite Luke warm and absolutely extortionate for what it was with not much substance or flavour. The waiters were polite. It did for dinner but I won’t be returning for £80 for two people for not much ordered.

A group of us visited after a show in Edinburgh and were very disappointed in the quality of the food and the extremely high prices of same. When we sat down we had to ask for prawn crackers on his return the waiter brought one small bowl? I had chicken chow mein which was dry and tasteless with a distinct lack of chicken Not one person enjoyed their meal costing a mortgage Only after we got the bill did we realise the prawn cracker are charged at £3.70 an item every Chinese restaurant I’ve been in give bowl for each of 2-3 people absolutely free Suffice to say we will never be back and would encourage anyone else to leave a review if they are as disappointed as us Only positive comment was the staff were great

Thank you for your visit recently. I am very sorry you were not happy with your dinner and would have happily replaced it for you swiftly if you weren’t happy with the Chow Mein. We certainly don’t like to see someone leave with a negative feedback and disappoint your evening. All our customers do enjoy their meal and return whenever they visit Edinburgh. I hope you can give us another chance or if you rebook I will personally ensure full enjoyment. With prawns crackers I can’t comment on whether it being a complimentary item in some places; but we do charge for it fairly and it’s clearly priced on the menu as an added option if you wish to order it. We do hope you do give us another chance and I’m sorry we didn’t meet your expectations this time.

We had a fabulous dinner at The Golden Dragon. Our server was Harvey and he had a wonderful helper as well. We enjoyed a bottle of wine, meat spring rolls, hot and sour soup, we shared the Kung Pao Chicken with steamed rice. The food was fantastic and the service even better. We started eating our entree before my husband reminded me to take the picture. The restaurant is in a fabulous neighborhood and you might want to have a nightcap or enjoy a comedy club after dinner. We had toured the Edinburgh castle for many hours and we were ready to go back to the hotel. after dinner. We highly recommend this restaurant. From the restaurant’s sidewalk we had a beautiful picture of part of the castle on the hill above.

This restaurant has very bad foods! Dan’t order here, they charge you 10% fee for service charge, i never have seen this rediculous reason to put a price up. We have found a much more cheaper restaurant which delivers very good foods to our hotel, it is located In the north-west of Edinburgh there is a good restaurant. You can order it online and they are very fast with delivering. For him i want to give him a tip, because from my heart. But this Golden dragon… i am disappointed. What a bad foods, tasteless, and looks like it is made in hurry, the price is too expensive for what it’s worth it, and please don’t come to me about edinburgh is a expensive city… i have read the other reviews too… this other restaurant is charging a normal price to us.

The food is very expensive and portion sizes are not great. £21 for Sweet and Sour chicken and rice. We thought the dishes would serve 2 but ended up having to order extra. One of our party ordered a chowmein but couldn't eat it. No one came to ask if food was OK we only got one drink order whilst there. Was the food OK, it was edible thats it, our local takeaway is a quarter of the price and much tastier. I would not recommend and definitely wouldn't revisit. I'd visit greggs 2 doors down.

The restaurant is well located in Castle Street close to the shopping and, obviously, the castle!! It’s run by a family with Cantonese heritage so Cantonese style food. The restaurant dining room is very well done being in a traditional Georgian building. This was a Sunday evening and the restaurant was fairly busy with everyone clearly having a good time. The owner is a very friendly lady and the service from everyone was great. I chose Char Sui buns for appetiser and then the beef brisket hot pot with steamed rice for main course. It was all exceptionally tasty. All in all then, very good value for money and I will definitely be back

Should have read the reviews before trying this restaurant, but as we were on a short break and it was local so we thought we would try it as it looked quite nice from outside. We ordered a takeaway. One Special Chow Mein, One Crispy Beef, one Boiled rice and one Prawn crackers, total price just over £36.00. On returning home we dished the food. Chow Mein was dry with hardly any meat and the Crispy Beef was soggy with a lot of sauce, just spicy with no other taste, it was dire!! I was so tempted to go but there today to complain, but we did eat it, but only because it was late and we hadn’t eaten all day. Should have returned it. Over priced and definitely not worth the money.

The service is brilliant, the food was fantastic,a great restaurant if you want some real Chinese cuisine. I had the udon noodles with black pepper beef and on a cold rainy night was just what I needed to warm up. The wife's meal was equally as appealing. We will definitely be back on our return to Edinburgh very soon.

We popped in for a takeaway. While not cheap, the food was delicious and the portions were generous. The staff were great, adding whatever condiments we requested cheerfully and without fuss. We regretted not eating in; the restaurant was clean, cosy and warm. We'll be back next time we're in Edinburgh.

Visited as a family of four on a Monday evening, it wasn't our first choice but everything else seemed to be booked up. Food was really tasty, but it was very expensive for what it was. Almost £80 for four mains, three rice and some soft drinks - plus they added 10% service charge on top of that. It was an enjoyable meal but I didn't really feel it was good value for money.

Very very basic Chinese. I travel a lot and eat at all kinds of places but this was more than ordinary. The rice for the fried rice is not even Jasmine or Basmati rice. Did not get sick or anything, just not tasty at all. Same for the peking duck.

We sincerely apologize that our fried rice and Peking duck did not meet your expectations. While we take pride in our traditional preparation methods, we understand that taste preferences vary especially when serving customers worldwide. Regarding the rice, we use a specific short-grain variety optimized for fried rice texture, though we appreciate your suggestion to consider alternative options. For our Peking duck, it is our House Specialty and a favourite of our customers. I’m sorry it wasn’t to your tasting. As a well established Chinese Restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh we hope to serve you better in the future just like many other Diners we have satisfied. Thank you for your custom.

New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
