I would not recommend this place to anyone. Popped in for some coffee after a walk on the beach and couldn’t believe the prices they’re charging. One of the staff members barely spoke English. I got 2 coffees and saw cakes in the display cabinet...with no prices displayed anywhere. I ordered them before checking the price with them which was my stupid mistake, ended up paying £5.50 for a slice of carrot cake..I know the cost of stuff has gone up but that’s outrageous. The place is very clean and tidy at least.More

It was a delight to visit the Portobello Beach Bistro. I enjoyed a couple of beers with the sound of the waves nearby. I encountered a very friendly and accommodating service. I couldn't find fault at all. Everything was clean and polite. And, indeed, anyone...who was attending the bistro solo was given particular attention and friendliness. I can see in other reviews that there is some brigading going on regarding an alleged person wanting to use the toilet here without buying something. During the time I was here, I saw the place accommodating two people who were not customers and permitting them to use the private toilet, so these reviews do not correspond to my experience. It should also be mentioned that there is a public toilet for the beach about two minutes away from the bistro. It's not appropriate to blame a small, private business for not providing a toilet when the nearby public toilet should be available 24 hours. It's true that there should be more public toilets available for folks who need them, but it's unfair to brigade a small business for not solving this issue. The focus should be on the Edinburgh council and not on demonising a pretty decent small business.More

Terrible unfriendly service and basic overpriced food. Couldn’t wait to get out of the place felt so unwelcome. Wasn’t surprised to hear the horrific treatment to an elderly lady needing to use the bathroom. Shame on you

This place is a disgrace, the way the staff treated that poor old lady by not letting her use their toilet... Disgusting I won't be back!!!

Avoid at all cost, terrible food and terrible service. They also recently refused a disabled old woman from using the toilet resulting in the pensioner having an accident outside. They whole establishment should be ashamed

Bland, overpriced food. Save yourself a small fortune by buying yourself a microwaveable ready meal and bullying an old person on your way home - the experience yielded is identical.

Coffee is weak, overpriced and just not good. When staff brought the wrong order they where rude about it and charged us twice. Look forever to get sorted out. I would never had publicly complained but I see the story on Facebook and don’t care...if it effects your business. It’s not my issue you are bad at your jobMore

I was not impressed with the food here and then this happened and I was absolutely disgusting….all involved should be totally ashamed of your behaviour and rethink if you should be in such a public orientated busines. This afternoon my mum took my 84 year...old gran out for a walk. Her mobility isn’t strong but she needs to get out for weekly walks. She was desperately needing the toilet and the only close by place was Portobello Beach Bistro. My mum went in and asked nicely if they could let her use the toilet , she was told No customers only. My mum then said I appreciate this but I’m literally begging you as she won’t make it home and we are locals and please please could she use it. The bar staff then shrugged their shoulders and said No customers only get out I don’t care. This then caused my gran to have an accident out in the street ( you can imagine how degrading this would make anyone feel )More

This place and the staff are absolutely appalling. The service is non existent the attitude stinks their coffee is cold, food less than average and last week they refused an 84 year old lady use of their toilet facilities despite desperate pleas from her companion,...which ended with the poor soul having an accident in the street (wetting herself) The manager was approached later by someone about this incident, shrugged his shoulders, said he didn’t care and that he wasn’t running a public convenience. I will never step foot inside this place again and urge others to avoid at all costs.More

Disgusting food, terrible staff absolute dump . Staff and manager don’t care they were very rude . Shame as the place could be really nice but with staff like them it will never be good. Save your money go somewhere where it’s appreciated.
