Such a shame! This bistro falls flat due to the rude, temperamental, abrupt and inpatient manager. Food is overpriced fconsidering the portion size, although it is tasty and some of the dishes being bought out from the kitchen did look impressive. I had Scrambled egg on toast with a portobello mushroom. Measly for the cost = one slice white sourdough toast, probably only one egg in the scramble, one large mushroom(that's standard)/ Asked for another slice - £2 for ONE with one butter and one jam(just a plastic packet not jar). Coffee is really tasty with selection of milks to suit all dietary needs. It's one of these places where if you want more than one glass of water you will be charged £1 per cup. Including hot water for a tea top up. Also not welcome to sit on a laptop working beyond the time it takes toe at your meal or drink your cuppa. Won't be going again.

Very expensive for the kind of food they are providing. The service was ok, but the tables are so sticky. It’s not a bistro by any stretch of the immigration, nor is it serving quality French style food which would allow it to be called a bistro. It’s basically a café with not great food and tiny cake portions but with sky high prices. I wished we’d checked the reviews first. Porty has many fine easting establishments as indeed does Edinburgh, but this is sadly not one. Va ailleurs.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. Popped in for some coffee after a walk on the beach and couldn’t believe the prices they’re charging. One of the staff members barely spoke English. I got 2 coffees and saw cakes in the display cabinet with no prices displayed anywhere. I ordered them before checking the price with them which was my stupid mistake, ended up paying £5.50 for a slice of carrot cake..I know the cost of stuff has gone up but that’s outrageous. The place is very clean and tidy at least.

we popped in here because we were cold from a beach walk and we remembered the place from before when there had been a wee play area for children. We quickly realised it had changed, with a more "upmarket" feel, and potentially less child friendly; we had our six and five year old with us. We were extremely short of money, January being a long month, and so almost didn't stay. But we were greeted in a friendly manner and the fact we were only staying for a coffee and hot chocolate for the kids was seemingly no problem. I asked for a hot chocolate , and an extra cup so we could divide it between the kids, and a coffee. We counted our money and decided on chips as well. I felt awkward being so skint but the waiter was smiles and he returned with two cups of hot chocolate for the kids, as well as the coffee and chips. They were not big cups but perfect for the kids and both of equal measure with lots of wee marshmallows, I really felt that the waiter had gone out of his way to help out. The chips were really excellent. I had wondered if he had misunderstood and given us two hot chocolates instead, but we were only billed for one. The food of the people sitting next to us looked delicious, so we will return when we are a bit more financially fluid! Thank you!

Went here last week for a lunch time meal. The place was empty, which should have told us something. We were seated quickly and the staff member was friendly. There was no hand sanitiser available but we had our own. Our table was dirty and greasy and our clothes stuck to it when we leant on it. The walls were filthy and there was a strong smell of stale fat whenever the kitchen door opened. When the food came after a 30 min wait, we only had soup and a panini, it was disgusting. The soup was oily and gritty with no taste and the panini was soggy. The staff were uninterested when we mentioned it. There was no track and trace details taken either. Will not be recommending it or returning.

I visited this restaurant recently for a birthday breakfast and was delighted with the experience. There were 12 of us in total and we had a whole table together. The staff was warm, welcoming and efficient. We were all served at the same time and our cooked breakfasts were hot and very satisfying. Everyone was pleased with the quality of the food and there was no hanging around waiting for your meal when everyone else was eating which can sometimes happen when you have a big group booking. On leaving, my friend, who was celebrating her birthday, was given a bottle of prosecco. Nice touch. I like the ambience in this restaurant and the location by the sea. Whenever I have visited for a coffee, breakfast, lunch or an evening meal, I have always been satisfied. This restaurant is fairly new and is never as noisy as other Portobello restaurants...I like this. I recommend PBB to anyone visiting Portobello.

We have just been for breakfast with our 3 teenage children. My son’s waffles (costing about £8) were clearly those ones from a packet that you heat up in the toaster. My daughter’s pancakes were similar. My daughter and husband ordered poached eggs with bacon - no mention of any extra charge on the menu for bacon but when the bill arrived we’d been charged £6 for the extras! My smashed avocado was ok but the sourdough hadn’t been toasted which would have been nice. At £62 for breakfast, that was an expensive and disappointing mistake. Avoid this place for breakfast!

The only nice thing about that place is location. The staff are cheekily rude and make the atmosphere and the food horrible. Had some breakfast there, DO NOT RECOMMEND. Asked for a worm coffee, received super hot one and was told this is the way it is served there....cold toasts. no apology, no smile. Not coming back there.

We asked to be sat at a table for the family for cakes and drinks so we were shown to our table and before we sat down or had taken our coats off the waiter wanted to know if we were ready to order. We all felt like it was a rushed service. The table was sticky and covid guidelines were not being followed, other than a small bottle of sanitiser on each table. The cakes we ordered were dry, definitely not fresh and ridiculously overpriced, which we didn’t know until the bill was presented to us later. Diet Coke was out of a tap, like flat syrup, and also very pricey. Two of us asked for tap water and were given half a glass of luke warm water. I would honestly advise anyone looking for somewhere to eat in that area to keep walking past this establishment. Sorry folks, but it’s a total rip off….

shocking ! the rudest most abrupt impatient money grabbing restaurant manager I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. No wonder the waitresses and waiters act like they are working in a concentration camp - evidentally directed by their uncivil boss. I will not be going again. And beware. If you want to ask for a second glass of water I suggest you arm yourself with a sword.

Ordered 2 lattes and 2 waffles. The coffees were basically stirred up coffee granules in water, tasted like soapy water and charged ridiculously expensive and the waffles were probably reduced to clear Lidl waffles, spongy and disgusting. Waiter took ages to bring the bill so decided to go to the bar and pay there. Whoever was behind the bar, would definitely need to attend a short (or long) hospitality course. No eye contact, unwelcoming, felt like he really hated himself or us, for being there. Really strange.

My cousin and I visited here yesterday for dinner and we both really enjoyed ourselves! Beautiful food, I had the sea bass fillet and my cousin had the seafood linguine which was packed with seafood. The portion sizes were perfect and we also enjoyed some of their lovely cake. Manager and waiter both offered a welcoming service and made sure we were happy with the meal. Would 100% recommend!

Visited at lunchtime yesterday. My husband had the roasted red pepper & tomato soup which came with lovely bread and was delicious. I had mussels marinara, again with lovely bread. Large portion, beautifully cooked in a delicious light sauce. Excellent service from very friendly waiting staff. We sat in a gazebo outside. Lovely until it started raining!! Staff brought down the sides to give everyone shelter. My one wee gripe would be that they brought down the sides on the leeward side before bringing down the sides at the end we were sitting at - which was also the direction the wind and rain was coming from!!! Naturally, the rain stopped and the sun came back up minutes after they finished this exercise! Would recommend this restaurant.

Ate here as a family with an 11 & 13 year old and a friend on a Friday evening. The bistro was very quiet and I think I know why - the staff do not follow Covid rules. Nobody was wearing a mask and no track and trace details were taken. That said, the food and wine we ordered was good and we all enjoyed it. The waiter brought us some free tzatziki and warm bread and it was absolutely delicious. My friend said his seafood pasta was tasty and my lamb kebab dish was lovely, although the meat was rather tough. I think if this place paid more attention to hygiene it would be rammed. Wear a mask, visibly sanitize surfaces, take a name and phone number at the very least. Deal with the flies.

My wife, my daughter and I called in for a drink and a slice of cake. I gave my order inside, 1 tea, 1 weak coffee, two slices of Chocolate Cake and as I had now decided what drink I wanted, I asked for another coffee. I went back outside to their outdoor seated area where we were sat The items came about ten minutes later, minus the tea. I asked the person who had brought it out for the tea. Unfortunately, her grasp of English wasn’t good and she got a little muddled up, she did eventually say that I had not ordered a cup of tea. I said that I had, I had paid £15.40 for the items I had ordered. I then saw that she hadn’t even brought any sugar out. She said that she was busy and didn’t offer to bring any sugar out to us so I had to go and get some, even in the café she never helped me out. I do appreciate that times are difficult and I am more than happy to wait to be served, but I do expect to be served with what I asked for, as my wife never got her cup of tea. I won’t ever go back!
