I went with some friends for a dinner out and I loved it. The food was tasty and the terrace outside is wonderful. I ordered a glass of red wine which was pretty good too. The manager of the bar/hotel came outside to check and ask if everything was ok; very nice gesture. I recommend the nachos!!!

Went round and watched a World Cup match at the hotel. Despite being very busy ordered some food. Portions were enormous and very good. Recommend the fish and chips. Staff were very polite and attentive even though they were mobbed. Would highly recommend and I am a very fussy eater.

Went to the links for an evening of World Cup action, food and beers. Sadly the football was a major letdown but the food (and beer of course) more than made up for it. The chilli beef nachos would have fed a family of four and the quality of the beef was superb. Can't wait for my next visit already!!!!!

A friend and I had been looking forward to afternoon tea at the Links for a couple of weeks, and we finally managed to find a Sunday afternoon to fit in with our busy schedules. We started with prosecco which was nice, but then they brought out the pot of tea immediately, which meant that it had over-stewed by the... More

We went along as a group of 4 on a very sunny Saturday afternoon for a Groupon Afternoon Tea. All 3 of the outdoor sections were very busy, with no tables available so we went inside and found a table by the window. Afternoon tea and sports bar don't particularly sit well together, but, due to the nice weather, there... More

We popped along here on Sunday with a super £10 Groupon deal. All the food was freshly prepared and the tea tasted wonderful. The restaurant was modern, clean and tidy with ample on street parking. With this kind of deal, we would return every week - just should have bought more vouchers! Go on, spoil yourselves!

This bar sells itself as a sports bar. In fairness it has plenty of screens to watch although with the high stools at tables and low position of screens, some are impossible to see. We choose this bar to meet friends for the Scot/Eng rugby match. We booked a table to eat at 1pm and watch the pre game. The... More

Around 40 of us went to the Link for our Christmas party last week. This was our second year there following a good experience last year. We had the use of two rooms and gathered first for a much enjoyed glass of mulled wine. The dining area is a good size and we helped ourselves to a buffet meal. The... More

I was visiting Edinburgh recently on a business trip, and I stayed at this small and cozy hotel. I didn't pay the bill, so I cannot say much about the value for money; they seem to have reasonable rates. The room was spacious and fully renovated. Nice and clean bathroom; perfect views over the park (I got one beautiful room... More

Went for lunch here at the weekend and was extremely disappointed. Menu looked promising, however the "Posh chicken kebab" was rank and completely tasteless, a complete rip off at £9.00. Nice looking bar since refurbishment but unfortunately unable to deliver on the food and charging ridiculous prices for what rubbish is served to customers. Wasn't even asked by staff how... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
