Superb “locals” pub, only 20 mins from Central Edinburgh. Booked in for a meal in the bar area, good tasty food, great beer and wine. Fantastic atmosphere. It’s a bit of a walk but not that far really. It’s worth it. Highly recommended!

What a little gem, wonderful service Very friendly staff, food outstanding, pleasant cosy eating area and delightful atmosphere. Best bar by far in Stockbridge. Will most definitely return!
What a wonderful and authentic pub in Edinburgh. If you’re looking for a discret, charming, timeless place to spend the evening, like the ones movies bring into your imagination, you won’t be disapointed at all with the Bailie, in Stockbridge. Just go down the stairs...to the basement where a confidential door-window will open to a marvelous circle counter, which is a magic view ! Inside, drafts, beers, spritits and affordable meals will enchant you for your entire evening. What ever if you are local, foreigner, there is no bareer in there. Just the pleasure from the waiters to assure you a very good time to live, into a warm and traditionnal place, reliable to popular UK literrature & music. Perfect as well to enjoy sports events in a great atmosphere!More
My sister and I loved this quaint spot in Stockbridge! We were staying in the Old Town but visited twice while we were checking out the Dean Village and Stockbridge area. Both times we stopped in for a rest from our rainy afternoon siteseeing and...photography adventures, and both times we felt welcomed and comfortable staying for a pint. We liked the atmosphere and the location. I’m sure a meal would have been nice as well, but we ran out of time. The second visit, we caught the bus back easily to the Old Town.More
We came in for a drink, but after finding a table decided to eat here. There were five of us and we all had various burgers. They were fantastic and the portions were generous. Great pub whether eating or just in for a drink.
This is an active bar at night. But dinner patrons are seated in an adjacent dining room which was nicely separated from the bar clamor. If in the mood for a reasonably priced meal with quality food, this is the place to try. We ate...here two nights. We had the fried fish basket, and the “pie of the day.” Both “pies” were well-prepared and flavorful. So was the fish basket with its crisp, nicely prepared fried squid. Wine choices were good, and reasonably priced. Service was friendly, cordial, yet professional. It was only a short walk from our hotel. Recommended.More
This is a very beautiful and friendly basement pub. Sadly, we only had time for a quick lunch - soup and a soda. The soup was great! The manager was very nice and friendly. I really liked this place. I only wish we had more...time so we could have returned for a few drinks later in the day. Next time!More
Food never fails. Good pub comfort food, very reasonable for the portion size. Child friendly too, wine not rediculously overpriced! Good selection of beers.
The lady behind the bar welcomed us on arrival and brought us over the menus. We ordered one burger and a lasagne and two pints of Innis and Gunn. Both meals were delicious. So many customers seemed to know each other, it felt like a...proper “locals bar” in the city. Great atmosphere. Will definitely revisit when we are next in Edinburgh.More
We visited on the recommendation of friends. Sadly, our experience wasn’t great and we felt very unwelcome from the minute we set foot inside. We did buy a drink but wished we hadn’t bothered.
We liked this place from our very first visit a few years ago and try to get in when we are up from The Borders. On our last visit, a few weeks ago, we were taken by how efficient and helpful a reception we got,...and the prompt and friendly service. The star turn was, however, the Cream of Haggis soup. We had ordered excellent Ciabatta bread sandwiches, but I had noticed the soup on the menu and, after consulting with the waiter, decided to give it a go - and was very impressed. To be fair, the waiter was quite honest that it was not his thing, but conceded that customers are raving about it, and we join that company. Thanks Guys !!More
My friends and I often visit the Bailie and would consider it our second home. The charming and cosy atmosphere is a result of the classic red ceiling, open fire and wonderful staff. Sarah and Ewelina in particular show nothing but exemplary customer service. Their...warming personalities and tolerance to our drunken anecdotes are greatly appreciated. We would recommend the Bailie to all visiting or local to Edinburgh. Skip the nonsense on George Street and take the short walk down to Stockbridge. p.s. class quiz on a Tuesday and the foods lush!More
Hey Man, What’s happened? The beer is still awesome but the food has dived. Not like you guys. Fish was a frozen something. Fries/chips were straight out of a bag. Let’s get it back. Shell.
This was a super cozy pub serving up your usual Scottish beers and mixed drinks. We didn't try the food, but looked good and plenty of people were eating. They have live music most Friday nights. Great spot to have a few drinks and cozy...up by the fire place. Super dog friendly.More
I first came here in 2019 and the food was nice. I ordered the cajun chicken with fries. Its more expensive now, especially the beer the food was ok not as nice as the first time. the servers work hard and are non stop. The...place has a good atmosphere though and i would definitely go backMore
