This used to be worth the cost of the membership a it provided a unique experience for dining, casual dining and tasting. All that is still available but it has really been commercialised and part of the club has been opened to the public. I...More

The Kaleidoscope Bar on the ground floor of the SMWS is open to the public, but it isn't over-run and is probably a bit of a hidden gem, being just a bit off the main George Street/Hanover Street zone. Comfy booths, or bar stools, allow...More

We enjoyed 3 courses of beautifully presented, interesting and tasty food. Vegetarian menu was superb - very rare in Edinburgh. Venison was 'melt in the mouth' good. Beef, pigeon, scallops were just as well cooked and all presented very well on the plate. The service...More

It is about 6 months since I last visited the SMWS of which I have been a member for over 20 years. I was very interested and surprised at the total refurbishment and change of concept. It is now more of a 'public' restaurant and...More

Our visit was a gift and involved a tasting session of 3 single cask malts and a main course dinner from the bar menu. The building is Georgian I would imagine and has most of its original features intact. The rooms we were in were...More
