About
Spacious and bright, on the banks of what was once Edinburgh’s most vital waterway, The Tollhouse is situated on the site of one the Capital’s historic toll collection points, where levies would be collected from local merchants transporting their wares from the city’s port to the Scottish capital. The Tollhouse brings a relaxed brasserie-style dining experience to Canonmills and Inverleith.

Fantastic food at a super reasonable price! We had such a good time, with two starters, two mains, a side and two drinks for £70 - easily worth £90 as the quality was so good!! Would happily eat here again.

It s so nice to have a top restaurant like the Tollhouse, just a short walk along the river from us. Before, it was either down to Leith or up to town. Staff are friendly and service good and attentive. The food is always enjoyable....Not too many menu choices, but always, we have found, they are good choices. If the restaurant industry is tight at the moment, the sure way not to waste money is to limit the choices, but make them all excellent. Too many items on the menu must cost restaurants a lot. The Tollhouse seems to have got it just right. A really nice variety to appeal to everybody. The Tollhouse jumped in near the top of our "preferred restaurants" list from the first time we went and, is proving a great regular choice for us.More

This was our first visit to the Tollhouse, having watched with interest as it was built on top of the public toilets that used to occupy this site by the Water Of Leith at Canonmills Bridge. All four members of my party were really impressed....I could have eaten anything on the menu, which was both seasonal and local in composition. Impressive wine list. The staff were friendly, outgoing and professional. The dining room was compact but very light and airy. Prices were very reasonable for the dining experience we enjoyed. We will be back soon!More

Superb - excellent fixed price menu. A meal for 2 and couldn't fault the restaurant. Stand outs were the risotto and the cheese course. Staff were there when needed - friendly and professional. Would return again

This was my first visit to The Tollhouse, and I will absolutely be back! We attended for a private dining experience with wine pairings for a work night out. The attention to detail was second to none, and we were incredibly well looked after by...Kevin, our waiter Tom, and the rest of the team. The private dining area is perfectly located just across from the kitchen, adding to the atmosphere through dinner and the feeling of being a VIP guest. Our menu was tailored to suit our party, and we had some excellent cocktails throughout the evening as well. From the menu, I chose the carrot, coriander, and coconut soup, followed by braised ox cheek and then white chocolate cheesecake. If I'd had room for seconds, I'd have chosen all of the same again! I can't wait to visit again in the future. Thanks again to The Tollhouse team!More

Absolutely faultless from start to finish. A sparkling gem in the heart of Canonmills. What an addition to the already well-respected DINE family of restaurants. Service was first class and the food, exquisite…..all overlooking the river. It was little wonder that the restaurant was packed...out during our visit. Starters of carrot, coriander & coconut soup and Jamon Serano, followed by exquisite braised ox-cheek and roast duck….desserts were also show-stopping….white chocolate cheesecake and chocolate sponge. Wow. Great wine list and expertly mixed cocktails. This restaurant oozes class and must be a permanent fixture in the Edinburgh foodie scene. If you’ve not been to The Tollhouse - go. If you have been - go again….and again….and again.More

We were allocated in a private dinning that made the evening out perfect. We were a big table of ten guests and it was possible to hear each other. The service was really good, very pleasant and the food was very well presented.
