Food was decent enough, but service on the day I was there was very poor. Just not interested at all, dumping food on the table without a word like it was some kind of hardship to him.

We decided to have a nice evening out celebrating the end of our 4th year dissertation at the chanter pub which we had been to before. As somewhere that excepts student discounts we assumed they would be used to a group of university students out...More

Was surprised with place was quite cheap. Nice place and atmosphere, although it wasn't as busy as I would have expected for a city pub. Would visit again

We visited in March 2017 and were staying in a nearby hotel. We did not want to pay very high prices for food in the hotel so called in for lunch. We had the managers special steak chips n peas for £4.99 and we were...More

Food in here is a hit or a miss I had the haddock today and the batter was nice but the fish had been frozen so was very watery. Cheap and cheerful is what you get so can't complain really

That was a surprise!!! We went there to get a normal pub style fish and chips and we get the amazing haddock upgrade so the fish was soooo massive.

Went with a large group of friends. Not enough staff working so service was very slow. My food (lasagne) was awful, heated in microwave and even inedible burned bits on the edge. However other had fish and chips and said it was lovely. Will not...More

Always love going to the chanter. The prices are great for both the food and the drink and the student discount always helps. Always bustling at the weekends, sometimes even a little too busy, but always a good place to start for a pint at...More

Came in here for a few drinks to meet some folks from work. It's nothing spectacular, has a pub chain feel to it but the drinks were of good value

We booked a table for 4 people for Saturday afternoon. We just wanted a few drinks and a bite to eat before going to a show... Both me and my friend ordered the lasagne. It was black around the edges and the underside, and soggy...More

West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in
industrial Britain had their most desirable
neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes.
Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest
citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind
grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel
crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and
sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along
