We had starters and main courses with side dishes. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were polite and friendly. The food was served fairly quickly too. The only small negative was that the restaurant was almost empty. This may have been because we were eating fairly early in the evening. We also thought the decor was a bit loud and could have been more tasteful. But if you like great food, well served and at a reasonable price, you can’t go wrong with the Gurka Bar

Staff was amazingly welcoming and friendly, the chef himself even came out after the food to make sure everything was okay. Food was incredibly fresh and tasty, honestly for the price quite literally fine dining! Amazing! Would recommend to anyone passionate towards Indian/Nepalese cuisine, or even not accustomed to it whatsoever.

First time trying this restaurant and I can definitely say it won't be the last!
The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and attentive.
The waiter recommended the shank of lamb - it was delicious with an incredible sauce. I'm so glad we stopped in for a late night meal. Top stuff!

We happened across this restaurant by chance and really glad we did. Attentive staff, wonderful food and little touches like warm cloths at the end of the meal, slices of orange to cleanse the palate and some cinnamon infused tea to finish. We were all really glad to have happened across the Gurkha Restaurant.

My wife and I had an absolutely excellent meal at the Gurkha restaurant yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had popadoms and spice tray, which was a nice introduction, the sauces in the spice tray were lovely. I had the Chef’s Special Chicken, which I asked for hot, and it was perfectly spiced and very tasty. My wife had Chivken Pudina, medium and again just perfect and tasty. We also had Tarka Daal, which was also excellent. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and clean and the service is easy, friendly and outstanding. We would highly recommend the Gurkha as a great place to eat and will certainly be back soon ourselves.

After traveling through the Highlands of Scotland, we wanted something different to eat and taste. And that we got! Lovely honest food, with very original flavors. Service was good. People serving obviously proud of the food they serve and the country they come from and represent.

A lovely dining experience, treated to a little pre dinner savoury bite and post dinner warm milky, cinnamon drink….
Starters were beautifully presented.
Meal was delicious although my order got lost In translation regarding the heat I wanted🌶️ …. Asked for hot, but not too hot, between medium and hot… chefs special lamb dish was really tasty but lacked the heat I wanted…the bill said ‘not too hot’
A spoonful of my friends madras sauce made it all better 😂
Staff were attentive and cheery, shame it wasn’t busier for them

This restaurant simply delivers on all fronts. I came with my wife and kids and we were greeted by friendly staff as we walked in the door. The owner was helpful and came out with some good jokes. Despite not having a booking, the staff went out of their way to find a place for us. We sat on one of the booth tables, which was spacious and well-lit. There was a lovely atmosphere surrounding the place, the staff looked like they enjoyed working there. The menu has a diverse range and was suitable for my wife and I. My two children ate off the "bairns menu", which was portioned well and both kids looked very happy with their food. We shared the black pudding stack to start, and I had a Featherblade of Beef, while my wife had the Mac & Cheese. Delicious food, fair pricing and wonderful service, could not ask for anything more.

I recently had the pleasure of dining here. They opened a couple of weeks ago and were extremely welcoming, offering us complimentary canapés. Every dish was a beautiful mix of flavours, cooked to perfection, with subtle layers of spices. We can vouch for the vegetable pakoras, a lovely lamb starter, a Madras and a Rogan Josh. The naans weren’t huge but were delicious. Impeccable service, incredible flavours, and an lovely atmosphere—this was one of the best curries I’ve ever had.

We went on Friday December 29th. Got a table booked easily and staff very friendly and welcoming.
Decor perhaps not as nice as previous owner however couldn’t fault anything else. Staff were attentive, friendly and the food was excellent. We had popadoms and pickle tray and a curry each and a rice and naan to share. The portions were not huge but just right and we didn’t feel we had overeaten
Price was reasonable too so I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone who is considering

We went here just by chance as we were passing and looking for Indian cuisine. From the outside it doesn't look much however the food was outstanding. We had the mixed kebab starter for two which was beautifully presented and very tasty. I had chicken tikka massala which was the best I have ever had. My partner had chicken madras which had a kick to it and was also very tasty. The meat was well cooked, service was outstanding, very polite and we got a few extras such as masala tea which was delicious and some fried mash potato starter which was so good! They also heard my little boy mention it had been my birthday the day before and they came with cake and sang happy birthday to me! Honestly amazing we would definitely return when we next visit Edinburgh!

Food was great and service was great! Hidden gem. Tried the Nepal cuisine (Achari Chicken), which was great. The Naan was fresh and awesome. Staff was really helpful in helping us decide which dishes to try, as we were only in town for a day, we got just the right amount of food and it was delicious!

We chose this restaurant after reading previous reviews and were not disappointed in the quality of food. We ordered papadoms and the pickle tray to nibble on as we viewed the extensive menu.
For starters we had fish pakora, chicken & Brie pakora and onion Bhajis. All were cooked to perfection and were soon finished.
For mains I had the Buteko Khasi which is probably one of the nicest lamb dishes I’ve ever had. The sauce was delicious and had a perfect heat and the lamb was cooked perfectly. My partner had the Saag Paneer which was cottage cheese with spinach. I would always avoid cottage cheese but I tried some of hers and it was surprisingly good. I would even consider getting it myself in the future. We had a peshwari naan and pilau rice as sides.
We will certainly be back!

Quantity yes, but also quality and how. Those curries were the stuff of dreams and when you add perfectly done naan breads following the tastiest poppadoms then it's guaranteed we'll be back asap. Oh, cheerful, efficient service too.
